Why do they do this? Branding

I absolutely love these shoes. Hate the visible branding. I find it so annoying

I like them too. The logo is small enough on that particular style that it wouldn’t bother me.

It wouldn't bother me if it was stamped in black. I just feel like every time I looked down it would bother me unless I was wearing something long enough to cover it.

No, but I might now as it clearly gives people something to get their knickers in a twist about.

I assume that a lot of people who are willing to pay Prada prices want people to know that they have bought Prada, hence the branding.

And my reply was no more pointless than the thread itself.

How is it more pointless than 90% of the threads on here? Seriously.

These go straight across the foot, not the V, @oneoneone

Because if you’re spending that kinda cheddar on something that looks like a 90’s M&S shoe, you really do want everyone to know it’s not a 90’s M&S shoe, and is in fact Prada.

I think you might be onto something. I’m sure that for some people if they’re going to buy a very expensive plain black shoe, they want people to know that it’s Prada.

Topic of thread = ‘I like these shoes but I don’t like something about them’. Answers can pretty much only be, ‘They are nice and you should buy them’ or, ‘Yes, you’re right, so don’t buy them’ or, ‘No, they’re just horrible’. Or did you just want everyone to agree with you?

Agree with this

somuchbedding · 27/02/2026 15:07

Because a lot of people who buy Prada or similar want a visible logo

No. I didn't ask if people liked them or if I would see it when my feet were in them, so this is answering an unasked question.

I think they’re horrible- but you wouldn’t see the name once your feet are in them.

These are both possible, and appropriate answers to the question, which was, why do brands do this?

I get that you popped on just to be unpleasant and feel superior, so I guess I'm happy to have afforded you the opportunity. Have a nice afternoon.

You should be able to get a dupe

But I wonder how many of us are out there who would rather not and are put off by it instead? I guess their market research must tell them there are more in the former group than the latter.

I don't even like wearing something like Adidas trainers ideally! I recently bought a Tommy Hilfiger jacket which has a tiny logo on the chest and subtle edging and that was borderline for me. I don't find visible labels classy at all, it's always a shame.

What brand are the knickers though? And are they comfy and/or stylish? That’s what matters round these parts.

Hanro, 100% cotton mini briefs, always. Classic but not particularly stylish. Almost impossible to twist. No visible branding and if someone's interested enough to look at the tag, I guess they deserve to know. 😅

I don't understand why people are sooooo against branding but there we are! All different see? 😂

I don't like those shoes purely because they are too hard looking for me and also black doesn't suit me as much as it used to. Bit harsh these days - actually maybe they will suit me after all 😉

BB052028 · 27/02/2026 15:32

Toe pole with a heel 😬

somuchbedding · 27/02/2026 15:34

You should be able to get a dupe, Zara has some.

oneoneone · 27/02/2026 15:41

Thanks for the dupes, everyone. I don't want a V at the top, that they go straight across is the reason I liked the Prada ones.

Oh well, I'll no doubt survive!

@MsPug

I think I just feel weird about people knowing what brand I'm wearing and/or how much they might have cost, and I think the lettering somehow detracts/distracts from the relative simplicity of the shoes, which is what I'm drawn to. And the point made by a pp earlier - I resent paying a company to advertise for them.

Edited

Personally I just find branding on clothes to be tacky. I really don’t mind a small discreet logo, I’m wearing Levi’s jeans today and they have a small red tab on the back pocket which if you had Levi’s you know that they said Levi’s and if you’d never seen jeans by that brand before you’d struggle to read them and identify where they’re from. They also have a badge thing on the waistband but because I’m wearing a belt you can’t see it.
Anything with large font with the brand name on is a no no for me.
trainers are a bit different for me, I will wear branded trainers but my trousers often cover most of them anyway!

😂Bravo! Massive Flexifit lace ones here, but no twists.

somuchbedding · 27/02/2026 15:48

Just saw your update. I’m sure Zara had some that went straight across but that was last year so who knows.

I really didn’t. I just don’t like the shoes, with or without the branding. I really don’t understand why some people on here get so het up if someone doesn’t like something. I don’t give a shit if people like or dislike what I like.

Excellent example of Bean Soup Theory here. 😂
