Is this too pale

We’re off to a wedding in March and my daughter wants me to enlist the MN massive to see if wearing this is ok? Is it too pale?

I think the pale pink is actually fine for a teenager. It's the sort of thing they wear for a 6th year prom and I think it meets the 'dress to impress' brief. And if the bridesmaids are in a different colour, presumably with hair up, bouquets etc, they won't really look similar.

I say this as someone whose aunt wore a floor length white floaty dress to her wedding.

Love the blue dress for you OP. Most colours of accessory would look good with that.

Your daughter is absolutely stunning, but should save that dress for a different occasion.

I don't think it's polite to wear a show-stopping outfit to someone else's show.

I think that’s the Vinted seller in the pic. Although I’m sure the OP’s daughter is also gorgeous!

Waterbaby41 · 22/02/2026 14:44

Too pale, too much like a bridal or bridesmaid dress.

This is a day dress suitable for a daytime wedding:

https://www.acnestudios.com/uk/en/printed-midi-dress-purple-green/A20895-AMI.html?g=woman

As is this:

https://www.stories.com/en-gb/product/scarf-neck-midi-dress-greenmicro-dots-1322598002/

As is this co-ord set:

https://int.toteme.com/products/striped-mini-skirt-ice-white

And in March velvet and (fake) fur and shearling and beautiful glossy boots will still be seasonally appropriate.

I would find it so odd if people didn’t make the most of the actual time and season of my event.

I think these are all horrendous!

GarlicBound · 22/02/2026 15:03

Both your dresses are beautiful and fit the brief. Enjoy the day!

I’d think someone got dressed in the dark wearing any of those options. They are awful especially the last one. That said, I do think the dress posted by the OP is a bridesmaids dress.

Agreed. These are hideous. For any occasion.

FourSevenTwo · 22/02/2026 15:19

How old is the bride?

I see the day dress vs evening dress distinction rather artificial and irrelevant here. I don't think that younger people care about it. Moreover, dress to impress gives permission to just go with the best dress you have (as far as it isn't a white gown with a veil).

It is light, but not white/cream/ivory. And it is simple enough, nowhere neer dress to impress bride.

Are you wearing your hard hat?

Not keen on the third one but the first one is great.

I suppose it depends on how one interprets "dress to impress". The OP's dress don't impress me much.

If you want pale pink and long, there are ways to do it without looking like a bridesmaid.

Covering arms helps (and you'll want to anyway in March), and going for 2-piece rather than dress. Like this: https://www.debenhams.com/product/coast-petite-tailored-pleat-trouser-jumpsuit_bcc11514?colour=blush

Or go shorter: https://www.coastfashion.com/product/coast-lace-midi-dress-with-bow-belt_bcc10277?colour=berry
https://www.coastfashion.com/product/coast-lace-insert-midi-dress_bcc12440?colour=blush

Or a patterned fabric: https://www.next.co.uk/style/su828643/w86472 (just on the edge of bridesmaid, but OK I think with the sleeves) or this would be better https://www.next.co.uk/style/su824864/h88863

Everyone is different etc, etc, but those are terrible. Especially the first one.

I wouldn't wear most of them myself (especially the first), just demonstrating various ways you can dress 'up' - long, satin, lace -without looking anything like a bridesmaid.

I don’t think the 18 year old is the mother of the bride.

We’ve been told to ‘dress to impress’ it’s in a fancy location in a big city

I think that fits the bill.

bafta16 · 22/02/2026 16:47

What if you ate a pie?

ProfessorBinturong · 22/02/2026 10:06

The middle one could be OK if correctly accessorised, but 1 & 3 are way too casual (and migrane-inducing, in the first case).

Ok for office attire if you're in your 40s (which I am, no shade there). Hardly wedding 'dress to impress'! All those options are terrible.

I thonk the pink dress looks a bit tight and yes, too pale. In a darker colour, I think it would be nice, given the dress code.

Brightlittlecanary · 22/02/2026 10:15

Good grief, did you google worst possible dresses to wear to a wedding? Or was this a joke?

I couldn't decide if it was a joke or not. 😀

Dillydreamer · 22/02/2026 16:59

Howilivenow2 · 22/02/2026 14:16

I agree with previous posters that its the style of dress rather than the colour and possibly that it's full length that makes it look a bit bridesmaidy.

However I get it, shes 18 and wants to look nice. Would something like any of these work?

That’s more like it.

MissLaurenUK · 22/02/2026 17:07

It is gorgeous!

BecauseofyouIlearntnottotrust · 22/02/2026 17:17

I think the pink dress is lovely and exactly the sort of thing an older teen would wear to a wedding.
My daughter and her friend wore almost exactly the same to my wedding a couple of years ago.

I quite like the green one. The 1st looks like it was made out of a ragbag and the last one looks like a wannabe nurse.
Not I am impressed by the 1st one, for the stated occasion.

Cappie73 · 22/02/2026 17:33

First of all you look amazing OP! Personally I would look at a darker colour. How was you thinking about accessorising it?

Happyjoe · 22/02/2026 17:33

I think it's just about ok but will be better if have something over it to make it less bridesmaid. I presume as in March, you'll need something to protect yourself against the chill?

bridgetreilly · 22/02/2026 17:58

Your dress is great. Your daughter can probably get away with the pink one, but personally I don’t think full length gowns are suitable for wedding guests.

Calliopespa · 22/02/2026 18:00

It isn't appropriate at all op. It's not just the colour.

It is too long, too strappy, too booby for a wedding guest. It just isn't what you would wear, and would "impress" for all the wrong reasons.

VB wore a strappy, silky, petticoat-y thing to an evening thing for Brooklyn's wedding and there was a lot of chatter - and that was evening. It needed at least a little jacket (and who knows, maybe she had one for the ceremony, I'm not sure). But turning up like that in the middle of the day is just OTT.
