Is this too pale

We’re off to a wedding in March and my daughter wants me to enlist the MN massive to see if wearing this is ok? Is it too pale?

Hi OP if you haven’t been to a wedding as an adult, as you imply, or even a formal wedding (register office pub being informal but to that I would even dress smartly) you need to wear a classy dress like you could also wear to the races. Some of the races you have to be covered.

so if you want to blend in just buy something from Hobbs or phase eight.

what is your daughter wearing do you need advice for her too?

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 22/02/2026 10:53

Yes it is.

The original pink dress is for her daughter. The later blue one is for the OP.

Oh thank you I hadn’t seen the blue one.

OneNewEagle · 22/02/2026 10:58

So a pink outfit for your daughter then, what age is she?

and navy and fuchsia for you? They always look nice together.

Offtotheraves · 22/02/2026 10:59

storageconcern · 22/02/2026 10:05

I’d think someone got dressed in the dark wearing any of those options. They are awful especially the last one. That said, I do think the dress posted by the OP is a bridesmaids dress.

Agreed, I’d wear some of those to work or out for lunch. Not to a fancy wedding where I’ve been asked to “dress to impress”

CinnamonJellyBeans · 22/02/2026 11:00

Your daughter is absolutely stunning, but should save that dress for a different occasion.

I don't think it's polite to wear a show-stopping outfit to someone else's show.

Yes that’s correct. My daughter is 18, I’m 53.

I love the navy dress OP. I agree with perhaps metallic or neutral shades for accessories. I wore a silver fascinator to a wedding a few years ago.

FourSevenTwo · 22/02/2026 11:09

I understand it as a dress the daughter is planning to wear?

I'd say it is fine.
It isn't white, it's not in the bridesmaids colours either.
Dress to impress suggests that the bride will wear something very recognisable and that it is ok to go with a more evening style.

Charlize43 · 22/02/2026 11:17

Sorry, I need to read the post.

IsItTooPink · 22/02/2026 10:30

I was thinking of wearing this (in navy), with a colour hat / shoes etc, haven’t decided on colour yet, was thinking fuchsia?

Much nicer. No hat. Metallic shoes/accessories, and you're set.

she looks stunning in it. Although she might be a bit chilly in March. Has she got a jacket?

ElevensesKing · 22/02/2026 11:24

You could hire a designer dress from Selfridges; they have got a wide selection of suitable outfits. If it's a "dress to impress" theme, then I'd go down the designer rental route.

If you have to ask this question, the answer is no.

This is a day dress suitable for a daytime wedding:

https://www.acnestudios.com/uk/en/printed-midi-dress-purple-green/A20895-AMI.html?g=woman

As is this:

As is this co-ord set:

And in March velvet and (fake) fur and shearling and beautiful glossy boots will still be seasonally appropriate.

I would find it so odd if people didn’t make the most of the actual time and season of my event.

Jesus, that first one looks like a cry for help!

ElevensesKing · 22/02/2026 11:31

The pale pink dress is too booby and will be detracting away from the bride, avoid booby styles.

MissingSockDetective · 22/02/2026 11:31

Actually, if the theme is 'dress to impress' it does sort of work, perhaps with a fancy jacket or shawl of some sort - fluffy maybe to make it suitable for a wintery cold wedding, which it may well be.

Paraguay · 22/02/2026 11:32

You cannot wear that to a wedding

It's not the colour darling, it's the lack of fabric that is the issue.

Go to some online shops like J Lewis and look under 'occasion wear'.

Phase 8 is a popular brand for wedding dresses.

Is your daughter the bride or she's just offering fashio advice?

Good grief!

The blue and white stripe looks like some kind of nurses' or catering staff uniform.

£500 for that trash?

IsItTooPink · 22/02/2026 10:24

Oh and the last time I went to a wedding was in the 80’s and the bride wore a green dress bought from a charity shop.

Ive also been told we shouldn’t wear red either, as it means I’ve slept with the groom 😱

I’d definitely be wearing red then!

SecretSquirrelLoo · 22/02/2026 11:36

The navy is great. So is the jumpsuit.

The pink is too much. Your daughter would look like a trainee bride or wannabe bridesmaid.
