Is this too pale

We’re off to a wedding in March and my daughter wants me to enlist the MN massive to see if wearing this is ok? Is it too pale?

My gut reaction on the pink dress is that it’s unsuitable.
HOWEVER, I recently saw a wedding party in a hotel recently and the bridesmaids were all in the same dress similar to this, in the same colour BUT the younger wedding guests were also in similar dresses of various colours. So, I would say it depends on the style of the bride and other guests.

The navy dress is lovely.

'Classy' might be something from Me&Em.

This is a day dress suitable for a daytime wedding:

https://www.acnestudios.com/uk/en/printed-midi-dress-purple-green/A20895-AMI.html?g=woman

As is this:

https://www.stories.com/en-gb/product/scarf-neck-midi-dress-greenmicro-dots-1322598002/

As is this co-ord set:

https://int.toteme.com/products/striped-mini-skirt-ice-white

And in March velvet and (fake) fur and shearling and beautiful glossy boots will still be seasonally appropriate.

I would find it so odd if people didn’t make the most of the actual time and season of my event.

Good god 😬

One of those is bonkers and the other two I would wear to the office.

OP take the photo again holding some flowers…you’ll see it’s a very bridesmaidy dress.

goingtotown · 22/02/2026 11:43

A nice pink cardigan would look good with it 😂

Photo of the dress

I've got a nighty like this. Sorry, not suitable for wedding at all. Nightclub maybe.

OliviaWhatshername · 22/02/2026 11:43

I don't think anyone aged 50+ should be wearing off the shoulder dresses for a wedding and think they look classy.

Showing too much flesh is never classy.

Sleeves - short or long- are far better.

OliviaWhatshername · 22/02/2026 11:47

IsItTooPink · 22/02/2026 10:30

I was thinking of wearing this (in navy), with a colour hat / shoes etc, haven’t decided on colour yet, was thinking fuchsia?

No, just no.

Showing one shoulder and a slit to the knee /thigh is not classy.

I've been to some very classy weddings in very prestigious venues in London and no women wore anything like that.

They all had day dresses with sleeves, knee length or midi mainly, and these were young women in their 30s.

The pink dress picture is of the OP's 18 year old DD.

I think anyone suggesting alternatives needs to find something vaguely similar or the girl isn't going to entertain them. She's not wanting a high neck, long sleeve, loose fitting piece that looks like it was fashioned from her granny's curtains.

What an ageist comment. It’s perfectly fine to wear off the shoulder when over 50, good grief, and people only need to wear sleeves if they chose.

I am in my fifties, I wear sleeveless, but my arms are toned. In certainly not going to stop as some random online says I need to cover my arms.

Gettingbysomehow · 22/02/2026 09:59

Every day there is a post like this with a bride like dress involved. No it is not suitable at all. Why not just add a veil and be done with it.
First rule of weddings. Its the bride's big day dont upstage her or wear anything even remotely bride like.
This is 100% unsuitable and Id be livid if someone turned up to my daughters wedding wearing this.

No one can upstage a bride, other than possibly the Princess of Wales (which is why William often goes stag) but they can look like they want to upstage the bride, and cause a scene by becoming a figure of ridicule.
Do you want everyone commenting on how ridiculous you look @IsItTooPink ?

I didn't say sleeveless , I said off the shoulder at a wedding.

You've put 2 and 2 together and made 5.

And as it's a March wedding it's likely to be freezing cold.

holycrapballs · 22/02/2026 11:54

EatYourDamnPie · 22/02/2026 10:24

Can you message the bride and ask? Or check with other guests that you are close to what are they wearing?

I keep seeing this advice and it’s a terrible idea. It’s not fair to put that on the bride. Just register that if you feel you need to ask, it’s best not to risk it.

2old4thispoo · 22/02/2026 12:00

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/02/2026 09:55

Totally inappropriate- and I say that as someone who is very much anti ‘rules’ otherwise. You’ll look like you wanted to be a bridesmaid.

This!!

Peppermintcreamz · 22/02/2026 12:09

I think it depends on the wedding. I would lean more towards fine for a destination, beach type wedding but I don’t think it’s appropriate for a classic church type wedding. Agree that it’s a typical bridesmaid silhouette as well. I think the navy dress is a great choice and the fuchsia would look great with it, or a metallic as PP suggested. For what it’s worth I wouldn’t wear either of the three links PP posted, they are far too casual even for a day time wedding.

StripedMug · 22/02/2026 12:10

The pale pink looks like either a bridesmaid's dress or an evening dress. That said, I think that generation do dress up a lot and I've seen DD and her friends in things like this in situations where I would be in something more like a day dress. Are lots of her friends going?- if so, I'd suggest she discusses it with them. If not then steer her towards a day dress. I think the colour is fine.

The navy is very nice. Hats are coming back.

TheSandgroper · 22/02/2026 12:19

storageconcern · 22/02/2026 10:05

I’d think someone got dressed in the dark wearing any of those options. They are awful especially the last one. That said, I do think the dress posted by the OP is a bridesmaids dress.

Times two.

FancyKeyboard · 22/02/2026 12:33

the pink dress is bridesmaidsy BUT I also think it's typical of what a lot of 18 year olds wear, so I wouldn't worry too much if she loves it.

They are pretty hideous in my opinion (we can agree to differ there) but thy also aren’t appropriate for a) a young woman b) a dress to impress wedding.
The style of suitable dress depends very much on the venue (which we don’t actually know) and the vibe of the event lots of young people dress like this for weddings now. There isn’t a one size fits all.

Harrietsaunt · 22/02/2026 13:07

It’s way too try hard, and slightly too small for the wearer.

SyntheticFluff · 22/02/2026 13:10

EscapadeVelocity · 22/02/2026 10:30

Actually, no - neither piss take nor joke! I’m entirely confident in my dressing choices and had already noted both the first and third outfits for future use, though I’d prefer to see if the prices are reduced a little, first. (I might recommend the & Other Stories to someone wanting to spend much less.)

But my point was not literally about those particular dresses.

I imagine they'll be giving the first one away, as surely nobody would actually buy it 😬.

SwearyBeary · 22/02/2026 13:31

It is absolutely fine for "dress to impress"!

They really wouldn't put that if they weren't expecting that kind of dress

category12 · 22/02/2026 13:33

It's already wrinkly, I don't think it'll wear well for a long evening.

minipie · 22/02/2026 13:40

The navy dress is great. I’d go gold or champagne for accessories. Hat will look wrong IMO but a little hatinator thing on a band could look good. They are a wee bit dated but for weddings I don’t think it matters.

The pale pink dress is just too close to a bridal dress IMO and I very rarely say that.
