We’re off to a wedding in March and my daughter wants me to enlist the MN massive to see if wearing this is ok? Is it too pale?

This is a day dress suitable for a daytime wedding:

https://www.acnestudios.com/uk/en/printed-midi-dress-purple-green/A20895-AMI.html?g=woman

As is this:

https://www.stories.com/en-gb/product/scarf-neck-midi-dress-greenmicro-dots-1322598002/

As is this co-ord set:

https://int.toteme.com/products/striped-mini-skirt-ice-white

And in March velvet and (fake) fur and shearling and beautiful glossy boots will still be seasonally appropriate.

I would find it so odd if people didn’t make the most of the actual time and season of my event.

Blimey, what hideous choices!

Brightlittlecanary · 22/02/2026 10:14

I’m always surprised at the threads on here and how many women can’t dress appropriately for a wedding, wanting to suddenly crack out white dresses or bridesmaids ones

I can only assume you’ve never actually been to a wedding op,where you think that dress would be appropriate. It is not your wedding, you are not getting married nor are you a bridesmaid, the dress is both inappropriate in terms of style and the pale colour makes it worse.

sll you need is a bouquet and you can drop kick the bride out the way and take her place.

Good grief, did you google worst possible dresses to wear to a wedding? Or was this a joke?

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 22/02/2026 10:18

I read a lot of these threads and it's clear lots of people have never been to a wedding in their lives and are just making a lot of the suggestions up!!

No OP, not suitable at all.

Those are all hideous. How is the co ord suitable for a wedding? It looks like summer business wear somewhere hot.

I love some of these comments 😂 thanks and we’ll take that as a ‘no’ then.

as for the below, I’m presuming this was a piss take

Yeah, me too!

One of the other suggestions, & Other Stories, usually have some lovely stuff.

OP your DD will likely have an idea of the style of the bride and other friends going. The pink dress is too casual evening wear I think, but if it's the kind of thing everyone is wearing then fine. Imho wedding attire should be similar to what you'd wear to the races. So smart, not evening wear or full length.

It has to be, doesn't it? Can you imagine turning up in that oufit?! It looks like someone's had a rummage through an old charity shop fancy-dress box!

IsItTooPink · 22/02/2026 10:24

Oh and the last time I went to a wedding was in the 80’s and the bride wore a green dress bought from a charity shop.

Ive also been told we shouldn’t wear red either, as it means I’ve slept with the groom 😱

OP posts:
EatYourDamnPie · 22/02/2026 10:24

Can you message the bride and ask? Or check with other guests that you are close to what are they wearing?

ProfessorBinturong · 22/02/2026 10:28

😂

That's a new one.

IsItTooPink · 22/02/2026 10:30

I was thinking of wearing this (in navy), with a colour hat / shoes etc, haven’t decided on colour yet, was thinking fuchsia?

Is this too pale
OP posts:
EscapadeVelocity · 22/02/2026 10:30

Actually, no - neither piss take nor joke! I’m entirely confident in my dressing choices and had already noted both the first and third outfits for future use, though I’d prefer to see if the prices are reduced a little, first. (I might recommend the & Other Stories to someone wanting to spend much less.)

But my point was not literally about those particular dresses.

Jesus christ these are ugly ! The western idea of dressing ugly do you dont upstage the woman in a massive white dress is ridiculous !! Are we all this utterly insecure ???.

No hat and a more neutral colour shoes and bag or metallic. Lovely, modern dress.

chgaus · 22/02/2026 10:43

Your daughter’s dress is lovely - but yes, too bridesmaid-y

Your option is nice - please, please do not do the 90’s ‘pop of colour’ thing! Neutral or metallic accessories only!

OneNewEagle · 22/02/2026 10:44

No it’s not ok. Wrong dress for a March wedding plus you will look like you are trying to be part of the wedding party. Don’t ruin the brides special day and her precious photos.

EscapadeVelocity · 22/02/2026 10:45

@Theyikesdyke - I can assure you I have no ‘western’ aspiration to look ugly as a wedding guest.😄 In fact I’m not even aware of any such idea.

Clarabell77 · 22/02/2026 10:45

ProfessorBinturong · 22/02/2026 10:06

The middle one could be OK if correctly accessorised, but 1 & 3 are way too casual (and migrane-inducing, in the first case).

The first one is downright hideous and just goes to show money doesn’t guarantee style.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/02/2026 10:48

ProfessorBinturong · 22/02/2026 10:41

If you want pale pink and long, there are ways to do it without looking like a bridesmaid.

Covering arms helps (and you'll want to anyway in March), and going for 2-piece rather than dress. Like this: https://www.debenhams.com/product/coast-petite-tailored-pleat-trouser-jumpsuit_bcc11514?colour=blush

Or go shorter: https://www.coastfashion.com/product/coast-lace-midi-dress-with-bow-belt_bcc10277?colour=berry
https://www.coastfashion.com/product/coast-lace-insert-midi-dress_bcc12440?colour=blush

Or a patterned fabric: https://www.next.co.uk/style/su828643/w86472 (just on the edge of bridesmaid, but OK I think with the sleeves) or this would be better https://www.next.co.uk/style/su824864/h88863

Sorry but these are equally awful imo

IsItTooPink · 22/02/2026 10:49

Oh but I love a good hat 😂 I’m so old and out of the loop regarding fashion

I read that fascinators are a ‘no’ too?

OP posts:
ProfessorBinturong · 22/02/2026 10:50

If you like a hat, wear a hat. Not bright pink though.
