Help me decide on burgundy trainers

I have decided (possibly irrationally) that I need burgundy trainers to pull my wardrobe together. Please don’t ask me why – in my head they will magically make jeans and a skirt-with-black-tights look less ‘thrown on’.

I need something comfortable enough for lots of city walking, but are still ‘fashion’ rather than sports trainer. I’ve historically been an Adidas person (yes, I know, I’m basic), but I’m open to being told I need to branch out.

Current shortlist:
Adidas Samba OG:
https://www.asos.com/adidas-originals/adidas-originals-samba-og-trainers-in-burgundy-and-off-white/prd/205467079 - classic, but are they now so everywhere that I’ll look like I’ve been influenced by my teenage daughters?
Adidas Handball Spezial: https://www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,20/2156963705 - are these actually more comfortable than Sambas, or just a slightly different flavour of the same thing?
Gabor Nulon trainers:
https://www.gaborshoes.co.uk/womens-c1/trainers-c5/gabor-nulon-womens-trainers-p55175/s802005 – these are right at the very top of my budget, so I’d only stretch if they’re significantly more comfortable for walking. But do they look chic or have I wandered into “sensible shoe” territory?

All comments on style vs real-life comfort (all-day city walking, not just pottering to the car), I’d be very grateful.

And if the answer is “none of the above, here is the actual trainer you need”, I’m open to that too.

Be kind — I am clearly overthinking shoes 😅

Oh no!

I love Gabor in general. But not those. Stick to Adidas.

DramaAlpaca · 16/02/2026 13:20

I'm an Adidas woman too, and those Sambas are gorgeous. I might have to treat myself... I already have two pairs and they are super comfy.

I like the Sambas just a bit more than the other Adidas ones, but I don't like the Gabor ones at all. They are a bit 'sensible shoe' I think.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 16/02/2026 13:34

The Sambas and Air Max are nice. However, I’ve got burgundy with blue NB new balance ones and I rarely wear them, unsure why.

Allisnotlost1 · 16/02/2026 13:41

I personally don’t love the gum outer sole with the burgundy, so I’d go for white. otherwise yes to the Adidas. The Gabor are a bit old fashioned for me.

@SuperSharpShooter you’ve reminded me how much I love AirMax 90s!

I think they're a bit too white for black tights, and also over budget, but thanks for the suggestion.

I have those exact spezial in that colour. I also have sambas in another colour the spezial are a gazillion times more comfy.
It’s a no from me to the Gabor. I love those air max though…..

I have the Adidas Speziale in burgundy and they’re absolutely gorgeous. I wore them on Saturday in central London and they were so comfortable. They have great arch support. I wore them with jeans. I also have the same style in black as I love them so much.

stargirl27 · 16/02/2026 14:12

I love the Spezials, super comfy.

twilightcafe · 16/02/2026 14:17

I prefer the cleaner lines of the Spezials (adds to shopping basket).

My MIL would like the Gabor trainers because she'd think they were 'with it'

Carollanne · 16/02/2026 14:38

I like the Samba ones.

The Gabor ones are just very unstylish (to my eyes). Bet they'd be comfy, though. Gabor are good, and I do like a few of their styles, (mostly boots), but sadly a lot of their designs are not that great visually.

Ninerainbows · 16/02/2026 14:41

I'm a Converse and Puma wearer. Puma Palermo are the comfiest things I have ever worn.

I’ve got the burgundy spezials - they are really comfy and I don’t see them about too much so I don’t feel like I look like I’ve stolen teen DD shoes

Allisnotlost1 · 16/02/2026 16:37

I went back to look at the office site and now it thinks i want burgundy shoes so it’s showing me loads! How about these:

FussyFancyDragon · 16/02/2026 17:23

I’ve got Gazelles in that colour and I love them. I wear them to work with dresses.

AltitudeCheck · 16/02/2026 17:24

Love the Samba and Spezials are a close 2nd. Not keen on the pink/ hearts in the stitching on the SL72 though.
I like the retro skate style, not so keen on the ones that look like sports trainers or sensible walking shoes!

TheChosenTwo · 16/02/2026 17:27

Dear god anything but the Gabors, they are truly dreadful!!
dd1 has the sambas and dd2 has the spezials, both nice. I’m allowed to borrow them if I want, I find the sambas more comfy personally.
ETA I prefer the look of the spezials apart from the gummy sole that comes up on to the trainer a bit.

treeowl · 16/02/2026 17:45

Spezials are so comfortable but the Samba fabric mix is nicer. Dislike the Gabors.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 16/02/2026 17:48

The Gabors are very ugly. Spezials are the best but Sambas also good.

Lostearrings · 16/02/2026 17:49

M&S do a pair of burgundy trainers which are new balance - esque, only about £40 and very comfortable. I have had a surprising number of compliments on them.

OasisTickets · 16/02/2026 17:52

What about the Adidas burgundy/pink VL court or gazelles? Usually pretty cheap on Amazon.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/02/2026 18:29

From a Gabor fan and a more mature MNetter, the Gabor ones are ghastly.

FlappicusSmith · 16/02/2026 18:38

Gah, I wish I hadn't opened this thread. I love the Addidas spezials a lot in that colour. I might just have to get a pair...

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 16/02/2026 18:53

I ordered the Spezials, as I have the beigey brown ones which are so comfortable, but I found the burgundy was a little too purple toned for my liking.
