Help me decide on burgundy trainers

I have decided (possibly irrationally) that I need burgundy trainers to pull my wardrobe together. Please don’t ask me why – in my head they will magically make jeans and a skirt-with-black-tights look less ‘thrown on’.

I need something comfortable enough for lots of city walking, but are still ‘fashion’ rather than sports trainer. I’ve historically been an Adidas person (yes, I know, I’m basic), but I’m open to being told I need to branch out.

Current shortlist:
Adidas Samba OG:
https://www.asos.com/adidas-originals/adidas-originals-samba-og-trainers-in-burgundy-and-off-white/prd/205467079 - classic, but are they now so everywhere that I’ll look like I’ve been influenced by my teenage daughters?
Adidas Handball Spezial: https://www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,20/2156963705 - are these actually more comfortable than Sambas, or just a slightly different flavour of the same thing?
Gabor Nulon trainers:
https://www.gaborshoes.co.uk/womens-c1/trainers-c5/gabor-nulon-womens-trainers-p55175/s802005 – these are right at the very top of my budget, so I’d only stretch if they’re significantly more comfortable for walking. But do they look chic or have I wandered into “sensible shoe” territory?

All comments on style vs real-life comfort (all-day city walking, not just pottering to the car), I’d be very grateful.

And if the answer is “none of the above, here is the actual trainer you need”, I’m open to that too.

Be kind — I am clearly overthinking shoes 😅

Oh no!

I have the Adidas Speziale in burgundy and they’re absolutely gorgeous. I wore them on Saturday in central London and they were so comfortable. They have great arch support. I wore them with jeans. I also have the same style in black as I love them so much.

How was the suede in the pouring rain?
Or was Saturday the one sunny day we had?
I love them but am so sick of ruining suede trainers with this lousy weather.

My friend has some lovely burgundy new balances, I'm not sure what style though, possibly 574s

KeepOnCleaning · 18/02/2026 07:27

Both of my daughters voted for the Spezials so that has made up my mind for me! Thanks for all the input from everyone.

I love my 3 pairs of Gazelle Bolds as I’m a shorty, can walk all day in them 25000 steps sight seeing so comfortable.

Second link 100%

The problem I have with adidas is, although they are super basic, they're cheap and comfortable, I have the colours. Enjoy your new trainers!

I'm off to look at the ones @ForFunGoose posted as they do look very cool.

These are nice but I wouldn't want to order from another country in case I need to return, and there would likely be a long delay with delivery to the UK

I like these and they have them from ASOS, but I'm going to confuse myself more if I add another option into the mix!

I have burgundy Adidas/Liberty trainers and they are super comfortable and the pattern seems to go with everything. Not sure what the style is called but they are burgundy with navy laces and a pattern on the sides.

What wait .....there are burgundy Liberty's ?

I have the beige/orange and navy blue Liberty's and adore them

Apologies, didn’t check what link I sent. Another trend have loads of UK stockists.

No to the Gola
Yes to the RD... Just my opinion 😆

Those are lovely @ForFunGoose,
Sadly not in my size, like most cool shoes 😭

My teen has the adidas and honestly they look amazing with most things. I’d stop worrying about looking like a teen and just choose the ones you like best.

Caffeineisthenewoestrogen · 19/02/2026 11:31

I have the spezials in burgundy and I live in them. They’re super comfy and look great.

CuriousKangaroo · 19/02/2026 11:35

I think Spezials are more comfortable, but Sambas look better. I have both though!

tobee · 19/02/2026 17:03

I think I agree @SuperSharpShooter the Rocket Dog are really comfy too. I tried Adidas Breaknet Sleek but they weren’t that comfortable. Although could be the lacing. 🤔

forgottenthisname · 19/02/2026 17:18

Don't you think this colour is a bit " last winter" now and go for something more spring/ summer?

Cheezewizz · 19/02/2026 19:37

Sorry to hate crash the thread but are the adidas spezials generous in the toe box? I can’t wear most styles or adidas (unless they are mesh) as they are too narrow
