Too white for a wedding guest dress?

EndlessCupsofSugaryTea · 14/02/2026 14:00

I have my eye on this for a spring wedding. I love prints, it’s silk and is in the sale - perfect combination.

However, I showed it to my mother and she said “But it’s white!” in a horrified way. I was bewildered. I don’t believe most people’s first thought on looking at this would be “white”. To me, it’s all about the print - and in any case, the background looks more cream to me.

I love it, but not for the first time, my mother has created a nagging doubt. Would anyone really think I was trying to look remotely bridal in this?

Ask yourself this:

Would you wear a red dress with floral detailing at the sides to a Hindu wedding?

tealandteal · 14/02/2026 20:23

If you have to ask, it’s too white

Moveoverdarlin · 14/02/2026 20:27

I think it’s quite bridal. It would be an excellent choice for an understated, small wedding at a registry office.

It's fugly

It’s not!

Muffinmam · 14/02/2026 15:20

It’s inappropriate. Why do you hate the bride?

Gold medal 🥇 for the absolute maddest response in this thread!

Take a bow @Muffinmam

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/02/2026 20:54

It’s too much white

It's fine, honestly why are some people so stuck in the dark ages when it comes to things like this.

I wore a cream dress at my wedding, and my MIL, who made my dress, also wore cream (no pattern). I couldn't have cared less.

But, that's you. It's still not the norm.

JoannaTheYodelingCowgirl · 14/02/2026 21:12

That's a bridesmaid dress not a guest dress.
Find another one.

titdttlhm · 14/02/2026 21:17

Since you have to ask the question and there's doubt, go with another dress to be on the safe side. Or ask the bride her opinion. I wouldn't do it myself unless you can get it with a different background colour.

And?

Case in point 😛

EndlessCupsofSugaryTea · 14/02/2026 21:29

Well why shouldn’t I argue? Why am I just supposed to take your bullshit?

Interesting that your entire posting history is on this thread.

Bridesmaid???!!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/02/2026 21:35

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/02/2026 21:34

Bridesmaid???!!!

I can see it.
It's definitely a wedding party/bride's dress.

The dress would also be a lovely day at the races dress.

mondaytosunday · 14/02/2026 21:41

Think this would actually make a lovely wedding dress! I think it’s too white.

Gleefulrobyn · 14/02/2026 21:42

Any dress with white as a base, regardless of print, is not appropriate for a wedding guest. So many other colours to choose from

LovelyJubblycoco · 14/02/2026 21:45

Too white.

twohotwaterbottles · 14/02/2026 21:58

I wouldn't wear that to a wedding. Just pick another colour

ClaredeBear · 14/02/2026 22:09

It’s lovely and you’d be welcome to wear it to my wedding but I think it’s best to leave no margin for offence or misunderstanding on these occasions.

OhDear111 · 14/02/2026 22:37

@EndlessCupsofSugaryTea It’s great! I have no idea what type of weddings people go to but that’s a fairly standard look. It’s essentially floral. I guess you aren’t wearing it with a veil!!! Get a head band and a pink bag!

PhaedraWas · 14/02/2026 22:58

Conta1nment · 14/02/2026 14:06

It’s beautiful but I could also see a bride who doesn’t want a big dress picking it

Absolutely that.

Morepositivemum · 14/02/2026 23:01

That could definitely be a wedding dress!!!

Francezi · 14/02/2026 23:04

Frenchfrychic · 14/02/2026 15:44

Hmm, if someone posted that dress and said second wedding I intend to wear this, if you’d respond and say nah it’s a day dress and not remotely bridal. Some how I doubt it,

Don't be so daft Grin

PhaedraWas · 14/02/2026 23:07

Morepositivemum · 14/02/2026 23:01

That could definitely be a wedding dress!!!

It's a dress that a bride who doesn't want a one off white meringue might pick.

That dress could be worn again to a christening, a garden party, Ascot, Glyndebourne, a graduation, basically any dressy summer event, but not someone else's wedding.

OhDear111 · 14/02/2026 23:09

@PhaedraWas Those are all day dress events, and a wedding is no different. Classy brides are not going to think that outfit looks like their dress! As if.

packratandproud · 14/02/2026 23:11

ThatCyanCat · 14/02/2026 19:43

A dress covered in a pattern with a white background isn't the same thing at all. I don't believe that every wedding you've ever been to has featured women in dresses with an inappropriate amount of white on them.

They'll all have had a black skirt, white top dress, though. Those are mandatory.

Eh?
