Brands you think of as tacky

Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

Mean-spirited thread. Curiously, the only people who I've heard use the word tacky are in possession of a fair bit of it themselves.

I live in a southern European country and have never heard of a dry robe, so I googled it. Why on earth does wearing one of these in the UK trigger such a reaction from others. Grown women saying things like 'dry robe wallies/wankers' 🙄isn't particularly lighthearted. I suspect neither was your intention OP.

gingerninja · 13/02/2026 19:07

Oh I think Dy Robes too and I have two of them! I used to open water swim but they look pretentious outside of a sporting activity. I don’t get the argument for them being warm either, they’re big and flappy and let the cold air in. Might sell mine 🤪

Not a brand but the market stall style wolf fleece also whales, dolphins added bonus points if they include a dream catcher or full moon on them.

Pandora. Never heard of Adanola.

Aren't they the white socks that women pull up over black leggings and wear with Adidas trainers, as in Kyle Walker's doormat long suffering wife?

I find it light hearted. I think it's in keeping with the British sense of humour in general. Some people get offended by banter but I find it quite amusing.

Yes exactly. I wear one for water sports but there are much better options for other situations. A decent, fitted winter parka will keep you dry and much warmer as offers much better insulation.

Apple....
My boss changed my computer about 15 years ago overnight because he loved the brand.
I walked in the next morning, burst into a meeting to tell him I was going to the canteen for breakfast and I wanted it removed and my own machine (hp/windows) returned by the time I got back, because if it wasn't, I would be putting his precious Apple Mac out of my window. I also reminded him that we were on the 9th floor, so there wouldn't be much of it left when it hit the ground after a 90foot+ drop.
Needless to say, he left the person he was meeting (someone pretty high up in the NHS) and immediately instructed IT to switch the computers back.
I came back 20mins later, sanity had been reinstated in my office, and he never tried anything like that ever again with me!

I'd never say w**er - wally is much nicer.

🙄

PieLoe · 13/02/2026 19:22

@WishIWasHibernating
Exactly spot on - absolutely hate it

Daftypants · 13/02/2026 19:29

Anything with a very obvious logo .
Louis Vuitton , Gucci for example .
Superdry because again of the logo .
Tommy Hilfiger ..that kind of thing.
Someome above mentioned Tiffany and I can see where they’re coming from with the “ return to Tiffany “ jewellery .
I have a lovely simple pearl lariat necklace though and a charm bracelet with no obvious branding at all from Tiffany. In silver .
They were gifts and the gift giver knows I like low key things .

Blakely - the hideous hoodies inparticular!
playboy, jc, Paul’s boutique, River Island…

Superdry. Their Japanese slogan, Kyokudo kansō (shinasai)極度乾燥(しなさい), on their products is grammatically awkward and unnatural. A native Japanese speaker wouldn’t use a phrase like this as a slogan. It sounds like a bunch of random words strung together rather than a coherent expression.

I have about 30 (no exaggeration!) Superdry t-shirts, so, the Japanese will take them from my cold, dead hands. 🫡

Alittlewordinyourear · 13/02/2026 19:31

Does it matter ? As long as people feel happy in what they wear does it matter if it’s Primark or Prada. Personally I judge groups who judge people by the label on their clothes

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/02/2026 19:31

I wouldn’t know the brand, but tight, peach-coloured scrunch bum leggings, especially worn in public with waist length tops.

Tacky is hardly the word. Utterly gross would be more like it.

Superdry
Stone Island
Juicy Couture
Michael Kors
C P Company
Paul's Boutique

I am 60 though so may be too old for the likes of Juicy Couture et al...

I’ve never even heard of Stone Island before.

Clarabell77 · 12/02/2026 12:25

I knew this would be the sort of comment someone would make.

”Anybody off the street” as opposed to what, dare I ask?

Surely you should have to show your family crest? 🤣

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 13/02/2026 19:31

Well exactly! Lots of people would take one look at me and mock my 'scruffy chic' look. They can fire away. They'd also be shocked at the banter that my husband and I exchange and wonder why we don't take offence. I l ove it.

Songbird54321 · 13/02/2026 19:37

I think judging people based on their choice of attire is tacky but what would I know? I’m just sat in my burberry glasses and adanola hoodie.
My leggings are from tesco though, not sure where that sits on the tacky scale.

JoannaTheYodelingCowgirl · 13/02/2026 19:39

I think most brands are tacky tbh

Moschino (the one with the teddy bears) and Louis vuitton gives me the ick.

I’ve never even heard of Stone Island before.

Stone Island was a label worn by football casuals 90s still worn by ageing thugs reliving their youth.

MyKindPoet · 13/02/2026 18:15

Sorry, I'm a dry robe wanker. Is there a support group for me?

I believe they gather beneath the leader's robe.

Incidentally, apparently there is enough space in one to have a shag.

Megirlan123 · 13/02/2026 19:54

ScaredOfFlying · 12/02/2026 12:58

No! The whole point of a Dry Robe is that it is designed to put on when you are WET so that you can get changed under it! That is why they are huge and lined in the way that they are. They are not just massive baggy warm coats that you wear on top of dry clothing. The Dry is as in “get dried” not” keeps you dry”.

Why not just wear a normal large warm waterproof coat if you are not getting your underneath clothes wet by doing an activity?

Edited

Why do you care so much 🤣🤣

Tiffany has some of the best diamonds and I agree their high end stuff is pretty good.
