Brands you think of as tacky

Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

  1. Holland Cooper - too much gold
  2. Fairfax and Favour - my neighbour buys stuff from here and then flashes pics of the carrier bags all over Facebook to show off how rich she is, the very definition of tacky!

sorry everyone

She’s tacky, not the brand!
agree re Holland and Cooper though… far too much tacky gold detailing and now the Essex crowd have latched on its ubiquitous. The logo jumpers are also the very definition of tacky but they’re aimed at people like your neighbour.
incidentally, the founder, Jade Holland Cooper is married to the founder of Superdry!!!!

I don't know if they even have their own branded clothes, but anything Boohoo or Shein.

DH and I do swim year round in the sea and wear a dry robe. I didn't go yesterday but asked him to pick up some milk en-route. He refused, came home to get dressed and went out again to be avoid being seen in public in the dry robe.😆

Now this is sad :) Who cares?

Charlotte Tilbury. It's make up for people who drink caramel lattes.

the flawless finish powder was life changing for me. I have cheekbones! And no lattes

Letskeepcalm · 13/02/2026 18:09

Oh hell, Superdry is getting a hammering! 😳I LOVE my super dry coat 😆

I hope those saying Louis Vuitton are only referring to the monogram style - I agree, it is very bold and unfortunately commonly replicated.
However I only opt for the epi leather - discreet and understated. Only those in the know will know.

White Fox is my pet hate. I can’t stand seeing it around. If my kids wanted one, I’d get a RL hoodie with a single, tiny logo on the front. Nothing with huge logos or words.

Canada Goose are great for skiiing trips and sub zero temperatures. Apart from the single badge on the sleeve, it’s not a shouting brand is it? My DS has a bright colour ski jacket with moncler screaming down the front so I’m probably not the best person to judge re tackiness. 😂

I no understand. I thought it was very expensive.

Spiderx · 13/02/2026 18:12

MacDonalds, KFC, etc, etc !

friendlyflicka · 13/02/2026 18:13

I think teenage girls look really sweet in White Fox and Juicy Couture a few years ago. Understand judgement but baffled about brands that target teenagers. I was one once. I gave birth to 2 girls. I just feel indulgent really. For the most part, teenage girls love branded clothes and I just think that is as it should be.

I thought Superdry had completely ceased to be anything.

SomersetS · 13/02/2026 18:14

Vauxhall. Pandora.

MyKindPoet · 13/02/2026 18:15

Sorry, I'm a dry robe wanker. Is there a support group for me?

I feel a lot of designer stuff comes across as tacky because of people buying cheap fakes in countries like Turkey.

Probably because Superdry is from Cheltenham! Can’t be much worse than the Engrish you see on Japanese clothes though

Is super dry actually made in Cheltenham (might be tempted if it was)

ColdWaterDipper · 13/02/2026 18:17

I think it’s anything that is trying to appear expensive without being good quality. Napapiriji coats that loads of kids walk to school in spring to mind. They are poorly made but a lot of delusional kids seem to think they are aspirational.

It's probably made in the far east but the brand started there, yes.

I am 50+ and have a lovely SUPERDRY coat . It’s warm and cozy and also fitted. Should I ditch in case I look ‘tacky’ ?

No! I'm 55 and also have a lovely Superdry jacket. I love it...only a fiver from a charity shop and I get so much wear out of it. I don't actually give a shit if I look tacky 😆

I thought it was just me that thought that! I feel seen

AppUser · 13/02/2026 18:23

Balenciaga for sure, who remembers their Ikea line? Or perhaps they're more trolling than tacky?

LancashireButterPie · 13/02/2026 18:23

Centre Parcs

Superdry. Their Japanese slogan, Kyokudo kansō (shinasai)極度乾燥(しなさい), on their products is grammatically awkward and unnatural. A native Japanese speaker wouldn’t use a phrase like this as a slogan. It sounds like a bunch of random words strung together rather than a coherent expression.

I love super dry. I steer clear of the overly silly logo items but lots of their stuff is high quality and low on branding. For a while they had sportswear and it was amazing. But yeah I'm 48 so I don't care if it's cool.

Exactly...if I see anyone with a Gucci bag I automatically assume it's a fake 🤣

Not this again. Baylis and Harding have never made themselves out to be premium. They are a cheap dupe of Molton Brown. I find B&H decent for the price, we use their handwashes in our house. I'd never waste money on Molton Brown.

Tresseme is the same. Never made itself out to be premium and I don't understand why you got the impression it was? They are sold in massive bottles in supermarkets. Good value for money if you're on a budget.

I dont know about Soap and Glory. As a 50 something woman the style of that brandd doesn't appeal too much. I do use their pressed face powder though.

I find Baylis and Harding pretty awful. It is made in china (god knows what it contains as their rules are more lax than ours or the EU) and thin and runny. The pots of sand in hobbycraft play sets contained asbestos up to the Chinese limits which we would not permit.

Chinsupmeloves · 13/02/2026 18:37

I've never been one to care about labels and brands and think only wearing certain ones deeming others to be beneath you is tacky.

'I wouldn't dare wear anything without a label' attitude is cringe amd superficial.

Greentrilby · 13/02/2026 18:37

I too have a Superdry coat. It’s the warmest coat I’ve ever owned. It also has a logo on the arm but as I’m ancient my coat and me are invisible.
