Brands you think of as tacky

Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

Also the Rita Ora collaboration with Primark (I’ve thought a very random choice) is always horrible!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/02/2026 20:14

I wouldn't say, tacky, but I think of Gap and Hilfiger as kids labels only. That might be because that's what was popular when I was teens.

Same here. I trekked in the Himalayas many years ago in NF. But the quality of NF, (and Karrimor, which was bought by Mike Ashley) has declined so much that it’s really just for fashion these days.

Didn't know that thanks,Seems anything Mike Ashley buys turns to shit in terms of quality and service plus how workers are treated.

Theda13 · 12/02/2026 20:15

Anyone remember Paul’s Boutique?

Pibrea · 12/02/2026 20:16

Range Rover, Audi and BMW

Halloumiqueen · 12/02/2026 20:17

Moncler - likely fake but rife on the council estate I live on so whenever I see it, it feels tacky

YourZippyLion · 12/02/2026 20:17

White Nike socks over the leggings and even worse with sliders - tacky as

Strawberrydelight78 · 12/02/2026 20:18

Most of the stuff celebrities put their name on. I do like the Stacey Solomon range in ASDA though. Just wish the bedding was 100% cotton.

Anything with logos advertising the company is tacky with very few exceptions. Exceptions are not for 'designer' items. Jeans on the back pocket area such as Levis ok for exception.

Why are Levi’s an exception?

OneBadKitty · 12/02/2026 20:25

Back in reality:

Everyone is warm and dry doing dog walks and teachers are snug on playground duty in their Dry Robes!

Women everywhere are looking and feeling good about themselves in their CT Pillow talk lipstick and enjoying the high quality eyeshadows which glide on effortlessly,

And those that can afford to shop at Burberry are beyond caring whether or not the majority of MN think they are tacky or not...

I still don't understand how a Dryrobe can be tacky at all as a brand.

To me tacky means tasteless showiness - so people who can't afford it trying to project wealth. That's why things like Burberry check or Tommy Hilfiger might be considered tacky - they are showy, noticeable, and worn on mass by people with no taste. I wouldn't say all of Louis Vuitton is tacky but same with Burberry and the check print, the monogram brown canvas bags (LV print) are tacky for the same reasons.

A Dryrobe from what I know is a boring black fleece or towel lined waterproof robe specifically to keep you warm after swimming or like I said situations where actors are hanging around on the edge of a set in the cold or rain.

How is that tacky? It makes no statement about anything other than wanting to be not rained on or soggy.

Are there gangs of marauding chavs who have taken up wearing dryrobes or something?

I take it you haven't seen the green camo ones with a very large, bright pink logos on the back.

Yes I agree anything really in your face with their branding looks quite tacky. I can’t find the comment now but someone said I seemed in a bad mood or “horrible and snooty” I’m definitely not in a bad mood or snooty! I’m not even friends with those women who was talking about it. I was posting to see what people thought on the subject. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of dry robes had to go google it just now, I don’t think it’s a thing where I’m from perhaps? Central Scotland

Saw one in Dumfries M&S the other day.

grrrlatrix · 12/02/2026 20:37

Basically anything that has a name across it.
And Disney.

Floundering66 · 12/02/2026 20:40

I wouldn’t say one particular brand but anything with really loud, in your face branding is tacky to me. I can’t afford most of these brands mentioned 😂 but if I had the money I’d shop for unbranded, good quality. I don’t like to be a walking advertisement!

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 12/02/2026 20:44

Interesting that SuperDry has been called out in the first few posts. I am absolutely not into labels at all, but I’ve got a few T shirts from there as they are reasonable quality and I like the style (semi fitted V neck). They have a very discreet little logo which is hardly visible.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 12/02/2026 20:45

Any brand of track suit bottoms with writing on your bum. (To a lesser extent, any brand of track suit bottoms with or without writing if you're not actually doing something sporty/active, but those ones are the worst.)

AquaLeader · 12/02/2026 20:46

Nothing screams 'tacky' quite like the holy trinity of Burberry, Dyson, and Land Rover.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/02/2026 20:47

CraftyNavySeal · 12/02/2026 11:29

Probably because Superdry is from Cheltenham! Can’t be much worse than the Engrish you see on Japanese clothes though

OMG there's a hilarious influencer who takes the mick of the bad English on Japanese clothes. She does with a deadpan face and tone.
She's American so her weakness is that she has occasionally criticised as bad English some things that were written in perfect French...

Oh don't say that my friend @Mumtobabyhavoc Grin I treated myself to a Hilfiger wallet for my birthday last month! It's the most treaty thing I own! 😅

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/02/2026 20:53

Actually i liked it because it was not too in your face with the logo. DH when I told him went 'ugh- Hilfiger' then conceded it was 'not too bad'. High praise.... i think.

Range Rover, Audi and BMW

What would you suggest as a non-tacky luxury/executive saloon? I can only really think of Lexus unless you want to go electric and get a Tesla. Jags are a bit of an old fart's brand.

OneBadKitty · 12/02/2026 20:57

Tacky vacuum cleaners? I've heard it all now!

Ferro · 12/02/2026 21:00

Why is Tiffany tacky?

Vivianebrooksmatsumoto · 12/02/2026 21:00

PLT, Missguided, Boohoo, Victoria's Secret (Pink, especially),Shein(or Shite as I call it) and Temu.
Oh and anything written in another language or with place names on. I remember a T-Shirt in Next that said Saint-Malo on it. Yeah, those who've been never would buy it and those who've never been would buy it.
Also the trend for 'California' etc T Shirts on men...!
I remember a top in New Look(another tacky shop) that said 'Comme si, Comme ca!' on it.
I can imagine some girl thinking-
"Ooh this is sooo French and sophisticated"
Nope, you look like a twat walking around in a top that translates as 'So-so!'
