Make up at home.

I just wondered how many of you wear makeup if you are just at home for the day. I spend most of my days going to the gym, walking the dog and being at home on my own and I never think to apply any make up but am just thinking I need to take more pride in myself!

Not a chance. No way I'd ve wearing make up for any of that. Clean and presentable yes, but definitely no makeup

Plasticdreams · 07/02/2026 22:09

I wear it every day unless I’m not leaving the house at all but that is very rare.
It only takes about 3-5 mins max for me. The same thing every time.
Erborian cc cream, blusher cream, eye brows brushed and lightly filled in, concealer around nose and eyes, a thin application of eyeliner inside the upper eye and mascara.

Lovemybunnies · 07/02/2026 22:10

Not always no but definitely some if anyone will see me even if it’s just mascara. I sometimes wfh without it but will put some on if I have a teams meeting as I can see the difference on screen. It just makes me feel better.

Right or wrong, I think it's good to give your skin a rest .
So days in, I give it a rest.

TricNorthCarolina · 07/02/2026 22:36

I wear it every day regardless of what I'm doing unless I'm really ill & am not getting out of bed.

minipie · 07/02/2026 22:38

Every day here including for gym or pop to the shops or even just staying home with family. I’ve had moderate acne since age 12 so 30+ years and I don’t really want anyone to be looking at it.

Ironically I’m very much a no make up personality, I don’t do much appearance wise otherwise but I’m still not comfortable showing my acne, hangover from teenage embarrassment I guess.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 07/02/2026 22:39

I don’t wear any make up unless I’m going out- as in out for something special- or to work. I never wear makeup if I’m staying at home or going to the gym or a walk etc.

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 07/02/2026 22:42

I think it's really quite sad when women feel they need to wear make up just to sit around the house or pop to the shops.

doonnaKay · 07/02/2026 22:44

@minipie Have you tried treatments recently? Stuff has really advanced since we were teenagers.

minipie · 07/02/2026 22:50

@doonnaKay I’ve tried a lot. Been on roaccutane three times (most recently a year or two ago), it doesn’t seem to work that well for me, and I get MH side effects. Am currently on Dianette (quite effective but only about 70%) and a prescription benzoyl peroxide/retinoid mix, as well as salicylic acid. If there’s something new I’m missing please do say!

EconomyClassRockstar · 07/02/2026 22:52

I wear it pretty much every day, normally the "barely there" variety. If I'm going to catch sight of my reflection, I want to look good for me!

Why is it sad? Why not let women decide for themselves what they want to do?

mynameiscalypso · 07/02/2026 22:56

Yes, I do. I also get dressed properly and do my hair (even if that’s just running over it quickly with my straighteners). It’s all part of the package. If I sit around in my pyjamas looking a mess, it makes me feel physically and mentally sluggish.

Why?

If no-one else is going to see you wouldn't it be better to let your skin breathe?

EveryDayisFriday · 07/02/2026 23:01

No, I have make up free days if I'm just at home. I don't bother for the gym unless I've worn it for work I always regret it in the steam room or jacuzzi when my mascara is falling down my cheeks.

M103 · 07/02/2026 23:12

No make up here ever. Not even for special occasions. I don't own any.

TricNorthCarolina · 07/02/2026 23:36

@RampantIvy I look after my skin & I dont wear heavy cakey make up so it 'breathes' fine. I'm in bed by 9pm most nights so it's all off by then anyway!

I wear make up as it makes me feel good & look good. Its as important to my daily routine as having a shower every morning - I wouldnt get dressed without having a shower first & I wouldn't be up & about without make up on either.

Also, it's incredibly rare that Im not out of the house doing something every day.

landlordhell · 07/02/2026 23:39

Every day unless I’m in bed with the lurgy. Not loads though and I do work every day out of the house.

This. It’s like getting dressed for me. I do realise that it’s a bit warped though but I do actually enjoy applying it.

I think there is a big difference between not getting changed out of the clothes you slept in (so presumably not being washed either) and being dressed, brushing your hair, but not wearing make up! I will wear lipstick powder and mascara if I’m going out out but not to the shops, rarely to work, and never about the house. But obviously I’m dressed and washed!

It’s not about feeling they have to. It’s about feeling they’d like to. Nothing ‘sad’ about women making their own choices.

Unless someone’s wearing a thick layer of foundation from about 1970, their skin can ‘breathe’ just fine with makeup on.

TeaRoseTallulah · 08/02/2026 01:30

Everyday unless I'm ill in bed. It's part of getting ready for me just like brushing my hair. Takes less than 5 mins.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 08/02/2026 03:30

I wear make up for maybe 30 mins total a year, just to update social media profile picture.

isitmytime · 08/02/2026 04:52

I wear a full face of make up every day takes me about 10-15 mind and it’s not a heavy caked on look. The only exception is if I’m not going over the door.
I wear it for me, no one else. I have very pale blotchy skin, fair sparse eyebrows and fair lashes. I just feel more me with make up on.
I don’t care if people find it “sad” I’m not doing it for them. I don’t judge people for not wearing any so I don’t see why those of us that wear make up should be judged either.
