the dry cleaner LOST the dress I was going to wear so please HELP

i can go to a large shopping centre like Westfield or I can go to the centre of London as the wedding is there so I have a wide choice of shops. I want to choose a dress this morning online, call the shop to check it’s in stock, then go. Help me find a good dress.

I want a really smart, eye catching, well made and eye catching outfit. I want colourful as that’s the instruction for the wedding.

I am 50 years old. 5’11’’. Size 10. Quite small bust (c cup but they look smaller for some reason). I have hair that used to be brown and is now lots of caramel highlights to hide the grey.

because of my height and age I won’t wear heels.

budget is generous. I could spend up to £500 on dress, acccessories etc but I would prefer much less.

i am giving a reading in the church so I need to look great and my face is not by best asset so I need the outfit to do the looking great. Any ideas?

Wow what a catty response. If she can afford it there is no reason for her to pop to Tesco.

@TidyPinkEagle , Tescos do not do nice frocks. I mean, sure a t-shirt dress or similar is fine from there but for a wedding? Nah.

I hope the OP spent ALL her money on a lovely dress in a natural fabric. I know I have and would for a wedding.

Wyse london? they have a store in Marylebone and King’s road

Brooklyn70 · 01/02/2026 09:02

sorry, i thought it was today

Mumdiva99 · 01/02/2026 09:03

@tidypinkeagle she will be able to wear the dress again. So it's not £500 for one day.
We all have different budgets. Mine is more Sainsburys and Morrison - but even I would look further afield for a wedding.

Ineffable23 · 01/02/2026 09:05

I hope you found a lovely dress OP or that the dry cleaners rang and had located your original, and that the wedding and reading went well.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/02/2026 09:07

I’ve only just found this thread but I am over-invested and need. To know the outcome please @BoxedOff

lljkk · 01/02/2026 09:28

Did you find a dress you liked, OP? As soon as I read descrip of your physique I thought a maxi-dress might suit. I hope the shopping has been successful.

merrymelody · 01/02/2026 09:37

Why on earth would you wear those shoes with a dress?

To be honest I agree with this, especially the dresses linked, sorry op. And to a wedding too,

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 01/02/2026 10:42

I'd also love to know how you got on OP

BoxedOff · 01/02/2026 12:14

Thanks all. I actually got a Me and Em jumpsuit as I took the point re shoes but also can’t abide uncomfy shoes. Here is a link for those invested. Remember the brief for the wedding was “colourful”! I would not have card but that colour otherwise but it actually got so many compliments. I did my hair in a smart up-do with nice earrings and the wedding was brilliant. Thanks for all your help.

Also I know it’s expensive and I saw the posts about that but this was for my friend of 45 years - we met in primary school - re marrying after a lot of serious heartache and tragedy and I was doing the reading and it was a smart crowd due to her new husband and I wanted to do her justice.

No need to justify it! It was a very special occasion and you wanted to do it justice!
I'm sure you felt fantastic.

JohnandMary · 01/02/2026 12:23

Great choice :)

BitOutOfPractice · 01/02/2026 12:23

Oh that’s glorious! Good choice!

glad you had a lovely day. You don’t have to justify spending to anyone on mn. Enjoy it I say!

HollyGolightly4 · 01/02/2026 12:23

Stunning 😍 I'm so glad you got sorted!

Westfacing · 01/02/2026 12:26

Fabulous choice!

Out of interest which branch of ME&EM did you go to?

Tonissister · 01/02/2026 12:26

That's gorgeous and you can get so much more wear from it than a very smart occasion dress.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 01/02/2026 12:40

That is gorgeous. Stylish and a great colour.

Yes this! I’d take that on holiday as an evening outfit! That’s just for starters!

MyFavouritePlace · 01/02/2026 12:46

Stunning! You sound like a fab friend.
