I need to shop for a wedding outfit this morning to wear this afternoon? Where to go? What style to aim for???

the dry cleaner LOST the dress I was going to wear so please HELP

i can go to a large shopping centre like Westfield or I can go to the centre of London as the wedding is there so I have a wide choice of shops. I want to choose a dress this morning online, call the shop to check it’s in stock, then go. Help me find a good dress.

I want a really smart, eye catching, well made and eye catching outfit. I want colourful as that’s the instruction for the wedding.

I am 50 years old. 5’11’’. Size 10. Quite small bust (c cup but they look smaller for some reason). I have hair that used to be brown and is now lots of caramel highlights to hide the grey.

because of my height and age I won’t wear heels.

budget is generous. I could spend up to £500 on dress, acccessories etc but I would prefer much less.

i am giving a reading in the church so I need to look great and my face is not by best asset so I need the outfit to do the looking great. Any ideas?

Ghost is a good shout. I love their dresses but they are definitely cut for tall women. At 5'11" you would look great in anything by them.

Definitely Selfridges as there is a lot of choice (maybe too much). But with your budget I’d be getting this, and maybe a very lightweight pashima if the church is cold. Not a fan of jackets over dressy dresses

Lots if other colour ways for the Gala dress btw if you’re not a fan of green

Since you did have a dress (that is now lost!) can you not use the shoes/accessories that you had already planned to wear with the original dress and base a new outfit around those. Then you only have to focus on one item.
Do you have a picture of the original dress so you can do an image search for something similar?

I love it. Effortless and stylish. Perfect for the occasion. Def no black jacket. Maybe a light scarf / pashmina if the church is chilly (today looks warmer than the last few days!).

Some lovely dresses on here but the green Liberty one wins imo. With gold ballet shoes not the brogues.

The Liberty dress is beautiful, very striking but not over the top. Plus, it's silk satin rather than a synthetic fabric, which is so often the case.
I would go to Liberty, definitely.

the quality of ghost is shit these days, everything is viscose and looks like rags on. it’s a shame because it used to be great and you can sometimes get old (25+ years) pieces on vinted. i’d go to liberty, the peacock silk dress is the best suggestion by far

I cannot for the life of me see how on earth ghost has survived.

I suggested Liberty too. They always have a great selection of interesting dresses.

Oh really? I’d never be able to afford Ghost anyway but I always thought they were lovely designs.

I wouldn’t rebuy the same dress. If the original turns up next week it’d be annoying to have two. Good luck OP!

Kitten heels or wedge type are good for people who can’t wear heels. Very comfy.
