Older bride - what to wear with this sequin jumpsuit?

Teabelly71 · 28/01/2026 23:39

Second time bride here, mid 50’s. I’m getting married again in a couple of months and we are having a fun, informal family and friends wedding. I’m wearing the jumpsuit below, but have no idea how to dress it up (does it need it?) to make it more bridal. In particular what to do with my hair? A hat? A hair band? A flower? I have very short hair and it’s fine and menopausal so options are pretty limited! It’s from Phase Eight.

also any ideas for jewellery? Shoes?

the colour scheme for flowers is orange and pink (clashing!) My future husband is wearing a fabulous dark orange velvet suit, adult bridesmaids in a deep dark pink.

thanks all!

You don’t have to have anything. Do you like having something in your hair/on your head? How do you feel about these:

Oh I would get some lovely bright pink or orange heels. They had some lovely ones in M&S last summer, Vinted?
what sort of things do you like wearing?

SelbourneIdentity · 29/01/2026 00:29

Just to say wow, this will look incredible, especially with your DH in orange velvet.

I'm ill-qualified to advise anyone on S&B, but just pretending I weren't, I'd say;
Silver shoes
Minimal jewellery
A flower or something light-catching in your hair- maybe incorporate dark orange and pink to echo your DH and bridesmaids...
Not a hat

Have a wonderful day- may it be the start of lifelong happiness together.

Sugargliderwombat · 29/01/2026 00:42

Absolutely love this and before I read your colour scheme I thought bright pink heels would look amazing!

Geneticsbunny · 29/01/2026 08:07

Could your florist do you a Friday khalo style floral headband? I think that would look amazing with the jumpsuit.

TheSandgroper · 29/01/2026 08:13

I wouldn’t wear a hat with sequins.

However, a lush, lux, skinny scarf in burnt orange velvet?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/01/2026 08:14

Have a look at Esska shoes, they were what immediately sprang to mind.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2026 08:19

First of all, what an amazing outfit. Absolutely love it.

I also love the idea of a Kahlo-esque head piece with the orange theme.

I hope you have a wonderful day op and wish you every happiness in your married life together

bestbefore · 29/01/2026 08:21

How about changing the belt to a matching orange or pink velvet one?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/01/2026 08:23

These were linked on another thread if you want flat shoes. I thought silver on silver might be too much but these would work:

Thanks everybody! Lots to think about - lots of new ideas - I’ll have a good browse.

I'm the example of things can and do get better after the ending of a long marriage (classic Script, classic Mumsnet situation that we read about). 12 years on for me after my life exploded and I’m so much happier and can’t believe I’m getting married again and I’m really excited to do so! My moron idiot ex actually did me a big favour in hindsight 🙂

OP, you will look great! I’d go a sparkly hairband with your jumpsuit, or sparkly hair clips, depending on your hair.

JustMyView13 · 29/01/2026 09:03

Personally, I would go for hair up in a lose wedding style messy bun (I’m assuming you’ve got length). As far as hair accessories go, I’d go for something with a sparkle like crystal styles. There’s some really beautiful clips out there. This will make your hair stand out from the guests. Make up, chose something that suits your usual look, and then glam it up so it shows in your pictures. Footwear wise, I’d go for a healed sandal personally with a satin texture to contrast the outfit. And then splash of colour on your nails if you like, or a nude or pink - something that is a nod to your natural style. Even a classic French will look nice. I’d probably then go for a small satin clutch, again I’m thinking a light bridal colour like a cream / off white.

Those are beautiful. I may just have ordered them.

It's not very bridal. Confused

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/01/2026 09:33

It all sounds great. Hot pink suede shoes and orange/pink flowers in a clip on one side of your hair would be great.

That sounds fab !

Why does it have to be? Why are these rules? And why can't you break the rules? I did not get married in a white dress. I couldn't think of anything worse. It doesn't suit me for starters and I'd never wear it again. It's so bloody wasteful.

OP not silver shoes. If you colours are bright clashing orange and pink go with that. Don't worry about anything for your head. You are informal anyway and it will look odd and fussy with a jumpsuit.

It is if the bride’s wearing it.

OP, have an amazing day ❤️

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 30/01/2026 09:42

Gorgeous jumpsuit and the pink sandals upthread are bloody gorgeous. You’ll look amazing. I got married again in my 50s and it was the best day of my life. A informal do and we all had a blast so wishing the same for you. A pretty headband or clip in your hair as you say it’s short may be something to consider, just to make you feel a bit more “dressy” but whatever you wear you’re marrying your “one” and that’s amazing. Good luck x

Bridal is whatever the bride decides. Was there really any point to you commenting? Are you worried that whoever does the ceremony might not be able to work out that the woman entirely covered in sequins standing at the front next to the man in an incredible suit is the one getting married?

Nannyfannybanny · 30/01/2026 10:11

Do people actually read the post, she has said she has short fine hair and someone put, have your hair up!. I also had a second marriage,at 50, Register Office,I found a fabulous trouser suit, the top was long ankle length, Nehru collar, buttons to the waist,in a little boutique. It was cream same colour pattern, they only had pink and green in my size, couldn't get cream. In the end I had a scoop neck dress, long, pearls round the neck, jacket with pearls all round. I bought a very simple fascinator. I also had short hair then.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 30/01/2026 10:16

I think that will look fabulous and congrats op. Honestly I’d keep it elegant, I’d have a simple and small white delicate flowers in your hair, just a small spray and silver shoes, delicate jewellery, to provide a contrast to your husband. I think going for clashing orange and pink in the outfit or shoes will just move to tacky.
