For me

The French tuck
Massive flares (though I love 'normal' flares
Carrot leg jeans
Massive spidery lashes

Light-hearted, of course, we all have different tastes, these are just some of my 'No's.

I'm.also not loving the shorts that look like underwear worn as part of an outfit, we used to call them cami knickers and they are actual underwear. Or the asymmetric lace slips under a jumper or top look. No, no, no.

Wide leg trousers look awful on everyone, even people who insist they suit them.

Stupid cropped twatty tops and jumpers… why?

And yes French tucking hideousness must surely stop soon. I started a thread on this last year and got my arse handed to me but I know I was right. Grin

High waists and wide leg trousers. Cropped and barrel leg in particular.

TealReader · 25/01/2026 18:19

I’m obviously an outlier. I’m 42. I love wide leg, barrel leg, straight leg- any Jean that isnt skinny. I love cropped tops and high waists (I’m short bodied so they hit me at the right point!). I don’t love dropped shoulders and wish there were more options on that front. I love midi length, I have wide calves and narrow ankles so they work well for me. I’m delighted that pencil skirts are back in. I’m loving fashion do the first time in years! Like Floisme said I only dislike trends when they edge out all the stuff I do like.

JaquelineHide · 26/01/2026 15:05

I know we all have our own opinions and things that suit us, but

ALL floral dresses?

NOBODY suits wide legged trousers or the colour burgundy?

Weird 😆

Baguetteandcheese · 26/01/2026 16:53

I think some floral dresses can be quite aging.

butt scrunch leggings must die! I get you want everybody to admire your arse crack but it really isn't pleasant to accidentally see. And I promise I am really trying not to.

Yes these, maybe I’m just jealous that having a big arse wasn’t trendy when I was young.

Also thong swimwear. Put it away

Oopsylazy · 26/01/2026 17:02

I must agree with the “everything sludge coloured comment”. I went to a posh restaurant in a very chi chi, trendy area at the weekend - it was packed and absolutely everyone - everyone - was wearing black/white/brown/beige. There was literally no colour at all (I was keeping an eye out all night!)

I must admit I was wearing beige too but I mean, c’mon!

Bimmering · 26/01/2026 18:24

Beige, now there's a colour I rarely think looks good. I get that it's a helpful neutral but I do prefer navy as a neutral

Oopsylazy · 26/01/2026 18:36

I wouldn’t be seen dead in navy personally.

Maybe when I’m 75 and shopping solely at M&S! My mum loves navy..😆

Fair enough! It's how I feel about beige, so I understand.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 26/01/2026 23:00

Flared or wide leg trousers in heavy fabric like jeans (don’t mind as a summer trouser, thinner fabric hangs differently).
Oversize and/ or cropped tops
High necks
Frills and flounces , although I don’t mind tiers in thin fabric
Puff sleeves
And why are so many clothes so long nowadays? I’m sure the average woman is meant to be around 5’4”.

I’m also not keen on brown, beige and burgundy clothes .
And if trousers have a drawstring or elastic waist, why does it have to be so bulky?

HoarFrosted · 26/01/2026 23:30

The disappearance of slimmer straight linen trousers. They're all wide straight now - and have been for at least two summers.

High-heeled shoes. There's never much choice when it comes to smart footwear unless you're willing to wear heels.

Ditsy prints whose only function is to allow garments to avoid being categorised as plain. Horrible. People who don't know what kind of print or pattern they would actually like, should just stick to plain colours and add texture to alleviate the dullness. Designers who can't come up with something more aesthetically meaningful should give up.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 27/01/2026 05:35

I was in my prime in the early 90s and am absolutely loving the return of wide leg pants and jeans with slim fit tops and sneakers. It was my uniform then and is again now, so effortless and comfortable. Works for casual to very smart by just upgrading the fabric and tailoring but the silhouette never changes and being very tall and quite lean, it's a look that suits me well.

If it's too warm for pants (currently 45 fucking degrees where I am), I create a similar shape with a slightly A line midi or maxi skirt and swap the sneaks for sandals.

Things I will probably never wear again at 54yo despite what fashion tells me to do:

skinny jeans unless they're being tucked into tall boots
low waisted and/or bootleg jeans and pants
floral prints (maybe an exception for something a bit arty/Scandi like Marimekko)
heels
anything that finishes above the knee with bare legs

Cando6 · 27/01/2026 05:59

‘Pasted down hair with a middle part’ 👏

Trends are for young people who look great in anything. My size 8 daughters look good in massive jeans with chunky ugly trainers and very cropped jumpers. It’s not for us!

LilyCanna · 27/01/2026 07:41

I’m surprised to see so much dislike for trainers which I’ve always thought of as completely inoffensive! I don’t wear them with dresses myself as trainers and tights would feel weird and I don’t like bare legs in cool weather or closed shoes in hot weather.

I’m another shortie who likes the wide jeans and cropped (i.e. waist length) jumper trend. I’m apple shape and finally there’s a style of jeans for me which are comfortable to sit down in without undoing a button but I don’t need to hoick them up to stop them sliding down. Skinny jeans were awful.

I would like the trends for lip fillers and thong bikinis to die, and I would like colour to come back into fashion, especially for winter clothes. People not only wear dark drab coats, even cheerful winter scarves seem to have gone out of fashion.

Lobelia123 · 27/01/2026 08:02

Please please can manufacturers start making tops longer again. everythign seems to be cropped / shorter length - t shirts, sweaters, etc etc. This only looks good on a handful of very slim toned people. Even young people look frightul in it very often as it throws the proportions out

BitOutOfPractice · 27/01/2026 08:06

a flounce / ruffle at the bottom of every single summer skirt / dress. It’s been about 5 years now since they appeared and they won’t go away. Should I dare hope for this summer!

JaquelineHide · 27/01/2026 09:27

Baguetteandcheese · 26/01/2026 16:53

I think some floral dresses can be quite aging.

Well sure but there are so many different styles of dresses and types of floral print I thought the sweeping statement was a bit OTT.

Myrealnameisbetty · 27/01/2026 09:37

@JaquelineHide I like your name 😉

As for burgundy I'm a fan and have a few nice items. Floral dresses aren't seen on the young lassies but I still think they're often a very pretty and a cheerful sight in summer.

One thing I find bizarre and unattractive is the open toe boot! Sack the person who came up with that idea. 🫣

CortieTat · 27/01/2026 09:44

Pointed toe shoes
Frills and puffy sleeves, they firmly belong in the Seinfeld episode “The Puffy Shirt”
Plastic knitwear, including “wool-rich”, “wool blend” and so on.

CharlotteCChapel · 27/01/2026 10:39

oldnormalplease · 24/01/2026 15:29

High waisted trousers. I find them very uncomfortable and wish that mid-rise ones would 'come back' or at least be easier to find.

I have a high waist, practically under my boobs, so I hope they stay.

Wendywooooo · 27/01/2026 10:58

My fashion HATE currently is Kitten Heels

No one has ever looked good in them in my opinion. A mid heel can be fine if you want to wear a heel but these things about an inch or so tall look ridiculous.

There's nothing wrong with flat shoes either, but kitten heels remind me of those plastic mules you'd get as a child in a dress up box.

BeFairOliveBear · 27/01/2026 11:11

Puffy sleeves
Boxy fit
Wide leg jeans
Dont think these are flattering on most people
Personally don't like brown or neon.
Also dislike the centre parted slicked hair and eyebrows brushed upwards
