Just moisture, in a cream

I get quite dry skin on my face. But skin is also very reactive. It turns red with literally anything, so my benchmark is a product has to:

  1. not hurt
  2. stop being red within a few minutes so I can put on makeup
  3. moisturise the skin

That is it, and I did have a holy grail from Avene, but they changed the formula and it stings my skin, especially around my nose and mouth.

Been in Space NK endlessly, we discussed that I shouldn't have 'actives' in the skincare. She picked out a product that she said 'literally does nothing' which we then did laugh about!

But it was a bit painful and redness lasted a while.

I've seen a dermatologist on and off over the years, dx with rocacea which is under control. Its just the sensitivity.

Any ideas, or even, what should I avoid on the packaging? Is alcohol always a no-no, as that is in some Cerave stuff I've been considering......

Your skin sounds very like mine. Everything makes it angry. A couple of products I seem to get on well with are Liz Earle Skin Repair Light Cream (the one in the tube) although it's not great for when my skin is drier at this time of year, and Weleda Skin Food which I only discovered in my advent calendar this year but was an instant convert.

NellyWest · 22/01/2026 11:14

avene cicalfate or LRP cicaplast baume both ok when my rosacea flares

GameOfJones · 22/01/2026 11:29

I hear a lot of love for Weleda Skin Food for sensitive skin.

If you're not vegetarian/vegan then my sister swears by Fat Cow skincare (horrible name but apparently great products.) She has eczema on her face so has to be really careful with products and the moisturiser is just beef tallow, beeswax and shea butter.

Another vote for La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 - this is the holy grail for moisture when my rosacea flares. If not this, then I use Madeca Cream Time Reverse - Korean skincare. 😊

bloodredfeaturewall · 22/01/2026 11:54

clinique has one that's a gel (moisture surge I think)
a bit pricy though.

molehole · 22/01/2026 13:30

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume

Embryolisse Lait Concentre (the sensitive one is unfragranced)

Beauty Pie Happy Face Cica repair balm (really helps with redness imo!)

bonnnn · 22/01/2026 13:32

Dr Sam’s flawless moisturiser intense.

namechange0998776554799000 · 22/01/2026 13:34

Elemis marine cream. The only thing I could use on my face during chemo

bonnnn · 22/01/2026 13:34

The cica products pps have mentioned won’t do for a twice daily moisturiser imo. Only really good for flares

blondlygoshferatus · 22/01/2026 15:08

Thanks

I feel.like I have tried various of the cica plast products incl LRP.... cant remember it being fine, although I can try again.

I am ok with actual rocesea at the moment, so I don't want to tackle that too much, just not get the hurty red from a cream

Weleda is interesting i will try that ..I used to.also like dr haushca so could cam try that again

I have just used E45 cream for years - no additives, no stinging, just moisture in a cream. Makeup won't go over it though - you'd have to use E45 lotion for that.

MadisonMontgomery · 22/01/2026 15:44

NOT Weleda, it’s full of essential oils which gave me perioral dermatitis. I think it would really set sensitive skin off.

Comethefuckonbridget1 · 22/01/2026 15:46

I use a water gel cream from boots it’s about £6 and fantastic. No actives, very cooling and sinks in well.

Coffeeandcaketime · 22/01/2026 15:47

Curel face cream is very light but moisturising

Agree totally - essential oils are not recommended for sensitive skin. I didn’t get on with the LRP cica one either. This is my favourite, have used it for years and years.

Weleda breaks me out badly too.

PShelp · 22/01/2026 19:07

Coats water cream! Love it

Winederlust · 22/01/2026 19:12

A friend of mine has the most sensitive reactive skin of anyone I've ever known and she swears by weleda skin food.

E45 makes my redness worse by orders of stinging magnitude. I don't know why it disagrees with my skin so much but it really does - I've used Oil of Ulay Olay Beauty Fluid for years now and I find that fantastic.

Sensitive skin is such a douchebag...

PerformativeBewilderment · 22/01/2026 19:24

I love the Geek & Gorgeous Happier Barrier cream from Superdrug - it’s only in a few of their shops but easy to click and collect. It costs under £10 and often has a 3 for 2 deal.

It’s really nourishing but also light, unfragranced and it’s doesn’t set off my sensitive eyes nor my DH’s eczema

3beesinmybonnet · 22/01/2026 19:29

@LadyMonicaBaddingham
Just checked my tub of E45 and it contains lanolin, cetyl alcohol and a couple of E numbers, all of which can cause allergic reactions apparently. And I thought it was such innocent stuff!

FateAmenableToChange · 22/01/2026 19:45

I have very sensitive and love SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Probio-CICA Enrich Cream. You can buy little ones to try it. I’d avoid Weleda and even Dr Haushka they have a very irritating form of alcohol in them I find.

HippyChickMama · 22/01/2026 19:58

I have very dry and sensitive skin and I use Inkey List Urea 10% Moisturiser. It is very hydrating and doesn’t cause flare ups for me, not expensive either

blondlygoshferatus · 22/01/2026 20:39

Thabks for all the suggestions.

So much has cetyl alcohol in it. I guess so it dries off and doesn't remain greasy
..
Is this one ok?

Aveeno Calm & Restore Oat Gel moisturiser - I’m 65 and wish I’d discovered it years ago!
