Just moisture, in a cream

I get quite dry skin on my face. But skin is also very reactive. It turns red with literally anything, so my benchmark is a product has to:

  1. not hurt
  2. stop being red within a few minutes so I can put on makeup
  3. moisturise the skin

That is it, and I did have a holy grail from Avene, but they changed the formula and it stings my skin, especially around my nose and mouth.

Been in Space NK endlessly, we discussed that I shouldn't have 'actives' in the skincare. She picked out a product that she said 'literally does nothing' which we then did laugh about!

But it was a bit painful and redness lasted a while.

I've seen a dermatologist on and off over the years, dx with rocacea which is under control. Its just the sensitivity.

Any ideas, or even, what should I avoid on the packaging? Is alcohol always a no-no, as that is in some Cerave stuff I've been considering......

I would just use pure oils, like sesame, jojoba or even olive oil to moisturise of you are reactive and you don't know which ingredients trigger your skin it's usually best to stick to one ingredient moisturiser that you know is safe instead of wasting potentially lots of money on higher end skincare. A couple of drops of oil will be enough for the whole face

Bioderma Sebium Sensitive

I have v sensitive skin and eczema. One of the cheapest most under rated creams I think, is something called a 50 / 50 cream. It's like a runner vaseline. 50 50 is like saying paracetamol ie it isn't a brand name. Most pharmacies sell it and quite cheaply for a large tub. I'm sure for many putting it on the face would bring them out in spots but for me and my dry skin that's not a risk. That and aveeno is all I use and dermol in the shower.

Clinique redness solution daily cream is great during flare ups

pricey but feels so calming on inflamed skin

Jojoba oil, I like the Fushi Organic one.

Roche posay sensitive range (it’s called something in French)

Are you thinking about the “toleriane” product? It is very good

anyone tried medicube jelly? £16 on amazon, rave reviews, perhaps not for sensitive skin though… i might try it…

Morepositivemum · 24/01/2026 14:50

I use avenue skin recovery but recently tried aveeno and that hasn’t made me irritated so far

Yes that’s it! Bought my daughter some for xmas off Amazon

I ordered some Face Facts night cream but it's very perfumed, avoid of you're sensitive. Glad it was so cheap!

bloodredfeaturewall · 24/01/2026 15:34

oil doesn't moisturise. for that you need water.
that's why moisturisers are emulsions, i.e. a mix of water and oil, to add moisture (water) to the skin and oil to add a protective layer to keep the moisture from evaporating.

Back21970 · 24/01/2026 16:21

I’ve not heard of Face Facts either so will
definitely check it out.

I started using Zoe Bee creams a couple of years ago after seeing recommendations on here and my skin is the best it’s ever been after a lifetime of breakouts, stinging and allergic reactions.

It’s the Gold Cream I am currently using and it’s amazing - I even put it on my lips.

It’s quite quite expensive (around £50 for the large pot) and sells out quickly but I would highly recommend it.

I have pure Shea butter no additives but it’s very greasy

@B0D do you use anything else with the Shea butter or does it do a good job on it's own as a moisturizer?

I use oil after cleansing my skin, so its still a bit wet, that way it locks in the moisture. Some dermatologists would also advise putting vaseline on top. This works really well and is a foolproof method if your skin is very reactive

This is a good tip! I've been using argan oil on damp skin for the last week or so and my skin dryness and redness has improved and no stinging. I've not tried vaseline on top of oil though. I would think that any water that is present in skin creams would evaporate anyway?

Specialagentblond · 24/01/2026 22:13

la Roche posay as a mask. Just put it on wet clean skin overnight. Keep hydrated,

Givenupghost · 24/01/2026 22:36

I have very reactive skin, like you have been under derm, had uvb treatment etc. In the last year after trying everything I have eventually found a combination a that has completely resolved my flaky dry skin on my face. I use the ordinary hyaluronic acid morning amd night and the atoderm intensive eye cream but use it all over my face. Feel like I had tried everything up to this point including some really expensive creams. Definitely recommend both products , its made such a difference people I know have commented x
I really.like the ordinary as they have minimal ingredients, the squalene cleanser is also fab x

smallsilvercloud · 24/01/2026 23:18

I think I found my holy grail, I have dry, sensitive skin, I picked up hado labo in Superdrug, it’s so moisturising, made a big difference to my skin and glow that been missing for long while.

VanillaImpulse · 24/01/2026 23:33

I like Paula’s ChoiceAnti-Ageing Skin Restoring Moisturiser SPF 50

Heartofmetal · 24/01/2026 23:43

I’ve been using Kiehls barrier repair cleanser and their moisturiser and really like it for my sensitive, reactive, PD prone skin.

Quacking4it · 24/01/2026 23:49

Dr Jart barrier repair cream is lovely. My skin is reactive and this cream makes a big difference.

AlwaysRightISwear · 25/01/2026 00:37

I use Olay. My mum who is allergic to lots of things uses Aveeno.

EBearhug · 25/01/2026 01:19

I liked Liz Earle for sensitive skin, but my bank balance didn't, so currently I'm using Waitrose Pure, which I found by accident, but it seems good.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 25/01/2026 01:27

Aveeno
It's brilliant
No tightness
No redness
Lovely
