Knitted vests over ditsy tops?

Im looking to get more wear out of my clothes by wearing vests on top. Is this quite a dated look? I cant seem to find anything v necked/not short and should be fitted. Any tips?

What's with the elderly librarian?! Last time I was in a library the older women working there just looked like regular wome wearing regular clothes 🤷‍♀️
