Everyday but special necklace ?

For someone (me) who currently doesn’t wear any but wants one. Significant birthday so budget is generous. Silver, not chunky, non blingy, just something subtle but classy looking and goes with everything (I am very casual)

Take a look at Louise Wade Jewellery. I have several of her necklaces and earrings and they are all gorgeous. Her silver is really shiny and excellent quality, and the pieces are quite fine and look great layered or alone.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 05/01/2026 18:43

I love Tilly Sveaas jewellery although her designs have been copied a lot eg the T Bar necklace. But she has other lovely ones.

When I reached 50,and had some money to spend on me for first time in my life (my bonuses, after kids finished uni!), I invested in a gold, and then silver, thick Byzantine chain necklace. The gold one is graduated.

Best investment I made, re jewellery. even though I’m retired I still wear one or other most days. They work with dressed up look, work wear, or casual
a very good investment - my silver one is about 6mm thick and gold one goes up to 1cm thick at centre . Both are around 18inch long but I have some extenders if I need longer.

price of gold and silver is so high currently though, you don’t get much for your money, vs when I bought mine around 12 years ago. I’d not being buying just now…not a serious slug of precious metals. I’d wait until market price of gold and silver drops

I have a friend who wears a gold chain with t-link at front, that she invested in while living in South Africa years ago. Again hugely wearable in terms of dress up or down. The t-bar at front draws attention and looks subtle

I also then invested in gold diamonds earrings and white gold diamond earrings…agian so wearable.

and then I retired and no more serious jewellery purchased 🤷‍♀️🤣🤣🤣

T-bars necklaces have been around for 20 plus years . We’re literally adaptation of pocket watch chains as men no longer wore them and they were selling “cheap” and could be made into serious good necklaces.

I love my Alex Monroe baby bee silver necklace, and my Alex Monroe baby blue whale silver necklace.

I want an Alex Monroe necklace but they look really short around the neck so I wasn’t sure, I don’t like mine too short!

Thingsthatgo · 05/01/2026 19:20

I’d get something made bespoke. Find an independent jeweller who makes designs you like and have a chat. I make jewellery by hand, and it’s not outrageously expensive, plus it’s completely unique.

WashableVelvet · 05/01/2026 19:26

Depending on how generous a generous budget is, I love those Van cleef and arpels ones with the four leaf clover type shape. Way out of my budget though.
+1 for bespoke or Georg Jensen at cheaper-but-still-generous budget levels.

I don’t think they’re too short - I wear them on the longer length as well. I think the website lists the lengths.

TMMC1 · 05/01/2026 19:45

I choose classic and stay away from trends and fashion when investing jewellery. I enjoy wearing it knowing I have treated myself and it's timeless and ageless. I do buy fashion, but cheap and in my mind disposable.

Another vote for Tilly Sveas

I also hate anything shorter than 20” so have invested jn a load of extender chains. Was really cheap from a,axon and works well.

Yes I know. But the T Bar style is been copied recently by M&S..mainly after Tayor Swift wore a Tilly S Tbar necklace.

MayaPinion · 05/01/2026 20:38

I got a silver T bar necklace for my graduation in 1991 so they’ve been around forever!

If you’re looking for something delicate but is actually quite robust I can recommend Isla Silver who make beautiful and ethereal pieces. I have a necklace I’ve wear almost daily.

My mum had a T bar necklace in the 60s, made from her grandfather's old pocket watch chain. I was bought an antique one in the 80s as a birthday present.

They are definitely not a new thing, nor are they unique to TS.

As I just posted, I know they aren't new of course. But they are quite fashionable at the moment eg M and S. I think because of Taylor Swift. So the OP might want to look at a different design from Tilly S.

Thanks Everyone! There was a lot to look at. I think what I’m after is something quite dainty, either a diamond pendant type or some sort of interlocking rings, but not too shiny or chunky. The search continues. I was a little bit taken with the initial necklace from Alex Monroe but I think it’s a bit young for me.
