Removing pubic hair

bluedabadeedabadoo · 05/01/2026 11:52

Good morning all. How is everyone removing pubic hair nowadays (all of it).
I usually use removal cream but I’m overly sensitive and have come out in lots of red spots.
Shaving brings me out in red spots.
I don’t fancy waxing. Are there any other options out there?
Perhaps the electric shavers? What are they like, do they offer a close shave?
Home laser treatment- how does this work with public hair?

OP posts:

You could argue that people removing the hair are making their vulva the star of the show. Maybe people who keep their hair are denying the majestic vulva it's place in the spotlight! 😉

Or, we could just all not worry about what other people are doing with their vulva. Ideally.

Edited

I'm intrigued by the use of the word 'vulva' being used here.

The vulva is just the area around your vagina , between your legs. So the bit that runs from your clit to your anus.

If someone is removing all their pubes they are also removing hair from the mons pubis (charmingly called the Mound of Venus too) and their vulva if they go that far.

I'd not say it was necessarily the 'star of the show' or even 'majestic' unless someone likes looking at it all the time, in awe.

Well I wouldn’t say I do worry about what other people do with their vulvas day to day but the OP did bring it up!! 😆

It’s more the language I was commenting on and how this can make other people feel ashamed about their own bodies.

She didn't ask for general opinions on the socialisation of women who choose to remove their public hair though. She asked for removal tips on the style and beauty board.

I also don't think that women need to factor in how any woman or man feels when dealing with their own body hair. Same as how some people like tattoos, some don't - just focus on your own body.

The implication always seems to be that those of us who remove pubic hair are making it harder for all women because then all men will demand it. In my experience, men aren't that fussed - a naked woman is a naked woman!

Perhaps a side of boiled potato’s 😂😂

Best to avoid any ketchup or brown sauce though 😆

Leave it alone, or wait until you hit menopause and it all falls out 😂

Wait, what??

I’m in peri… am I to wake up one morning all porn-star like? 😂

I was responding to a poster who suggested that removing pubic hair was rooted in shame/disgust regarding the vulva. Tired of writing vulva now. 😅

Maybe, but nothing gets women onto the keyboards on a freezing cold day faster than a thread about pubic hair and removing it.

It was never even a thing when I was younger .
nobody did it.

It started with the porn industry online.

In the old days Playboy centrefold was a full bush.

comb and scissors to trim, not remove.

The day men are willing to cover their ball sacks in hot wax and rip their pubes out for us, that's when I'll think about it.

I would also be really uncomfortable with someone who wanted me to look like an 8 year old down there!

Lol
loads and loads of men do this this -
you not heard of a back sack n crack wax?
and many do their chests and nose/ear hair with hot wax too x
What decade you been living in all that is totally mainstream now lol c

MiddleChildX · 05/01/2026 16:49

Elle771 · 05/01/2026 14:24

Can you recommend a good at home one??

I’ll try to find the link. The wax pot was pretty cheap on Amazon and I’m sure it’s Mylee wax pebbles I use. Takes a few times to get the temperature just right but now I can wax everything super quick. It’s a game changer.

Mainly gay men.

Why don’t we think it’s just your personal choice?

Because it’s a strange choice to make ? It’s unhealthy and painful and yet you still want to persist ?

if you were self harming it would be seen as a bad thing. Why is this not self harming? What makes this ok?

I’ve seen a huge number of ridiculous comments on MN but this just about takes the biscuit.

When I decide to pass judgement on your genital area, I’ll be interested in your opinion of mine.
spoiler: never.

do you apply the béchamel sauce and then whip it off with some leafy greens? 😂

Remove in layers

😂😂😂😂

Is the hairdresser self harm too??

I've never suffered pain while having my hair cut, and its never caused me nasty boils.
Why has this idea that removing pubic hair is a sensible thing to do taken such a hold?

DeposedPresident · 05/01/2026 17:01

GallonHat · 05/01/2026 12:00

Why not just leave it alone? Save time, money, angst and risk of infection.

That's what I do. I even have a shorts-type bathing suit so I don't even need to trim the edges.

Granted,. I'm 53, been married 20-odd years, and only have sex in the dark. Not for everyone I shall admit!

Maraudingmarauders · 05/01/2026 17:03

Wax but I’m currently having laser treatment for my bikini line (in a salon) and its life changing. Gone are my days of sore razor rash and struggling on holiday in a swimsuit past day 3!

fabulousx · 05/01/2026 17:03

Nancylancy · 05/01/2026 15:37

Just read some more of the thread now - oh of COURSE everyone is bashing her choice to remove pubic hair, because it MUST be strange/ weird / pointless/ unnatural etc etc etc
BORE OFF
I get rid of all my hair down there because when I'm hairy I feel sweaty, unhygienic, itchy, I don't like the look of it either especially through my underwear! So mine all gets shaved because that's how I like it. End of! Leave the OP alone!

Just because you have no problem with your own hairy bush it doesn't mean others can't be happier and more comfortable with no hair!

Rant over 😂 can't ask any questions on MN without all your life choices being absolutely ripped apart lol

I agree with you a full bush makes me smell unless im imagining it.

Plus growing up i wasn't allowed to shave or trim any hair.
And when on a period dryed on blood I just can't.
Everyone to their own.
Im single no one tells me to do it I do it for me.
I dont live in the 1900s.

AnnaFrith · 05/01/2026 17:09

MiddleChildX · 05/01/2026 16:08

That Is what I’m referring to. We knew it would not be long for someone to imply that people who wax their pubic hair look like 8 year olds and therefore their partner must have paedo tendencies. It’s utterly ridiculous. And diminishes a woman’s right to personal preference. So so predictable though. I can assure those people that my hairless bikini area looks absolutely nothing like an 8 year olds! 😂

100% agree, grown women without pubic hair look look postmenopausal, not prepubescent.

namechange215555 · 05/01/2026 17:11

Laser treatment, can usually find good ones on groupon type sites. Best money i've ever spent.

There were quite a few songs out last year glorifying full bush. It’s definitely been “on trend” the last couple of years to leave it alone.

Usernumber36373647323 · 05/01/2026 17:11

electric shavers will not cut right to the skin but still can go pretty short, and much less likely to get shaving rash when it starts growing back!

often I just trim with a pair of scissors 🤦‍♀️ I don’t it totally off though! I fully shaved when younger and I refuse to do it anymore 😂
