What are you doing with the jumpers & tops you wore with skinny jeans?

I’m taking advantage of a bit of new year zeal to tackle my wardrobes. They are currently bulging and, as I go through them, I realise it’s because I currently have both the more cropped, boxy style jumpers that I now wear with my barrel & wide leg jeans as well as the longer, arse covering tops I used to wear with skinnies. I really like some of these jumpers & tops! However, they’re too long to tuck in even partially so I just look as though I’m playing dress up in a bigger person’s clothes if I try and wear them with my current jeans.
Do I put them in an empty suitcase & hang onto them until skinnies inevitably come back in? Or do we think that, by the time that happens, styles will have tweaked in some way so that all of these tops will look dated anyway? (Or, maybe, as I turn 50, I will finally have my long awaited teen growth spurt and finally lose my puppy fat and will no longer be a 5’3” pear shaped they will look wrong anyway!).
I have out about half of them in the charity shop style but I still have half a dozen jumpers and a similar number of long & short sleeved tops which I always felt good in when I wore them. I also hate clothes shopping and rarely find things which I feel suit me so I don’t want to rashly get rid of things and then have to start again. Building up enough tops to wear with wide leg jeans feels as though it has involved a lot of blood, swear & tears and a fair amount of wasted money as I wear something a few times and decide it’s not for me after all.

Skinnies will come back, but when that times comes, will you still like the tops and jumpers or will you want new ones? Maybe just keep a few favourites?

hby9628 · 03/01/2026 12:09

I would keep them. Skinnies will definitely come back. I still occasionally wear mine. Wild I know.

landslide51 · 03/01/2026 12:11

Can you wear them with something else? Leggings maybe?

LikeNoYeah · 03/01/2026 12:11

I’ve kept the ones I still like.

Skinnies aren’t gone forever.

I also wear leggings/long top/long cardi/riding boots as a casual winter look, though.

Upthenorth · 03/01/2026 12:11

I didn’t get the no skinnies memo and don’t plan to stop. They’re so practical.

This.

DolefullySingingMotherfucka · 03/01/2026 12:19

Still wearing them with my skinny jeans.

OopsieeDaisy · 03/01/2026 12:30

I still occasionally wear my skinny jeans too, but more often I’ll wear some fleece lined leggings with the longer tops I still have.

RedRiverShore6 · 03/01/2026 12:32

I would probably put them away if you like but don't wear, as people do with seasonal clothes

Cakeandcardio · 03/01/2026 12:49

Well the boxy jeans aren't such a good, timeless look as skinnies so I would keep them for when skinnies come back

fartoomuchtoblerone · 03/01/2026 12:50

I’m wearing mine with leggings while working from home.

PrincessofWells · 03/01/2026 12:51

Get rid because when skinnies come back it will be in a different way and your current tops will be dated.

Fizbosshoes · 03/01/2026 12:55

I have bootleg, wide and skinny jeans. The tops that worked with skinny also work with bootleg (or skinny flare)....but i might be encouraging you to buy more jeans which wasnt what you were asking! 🤣

Floisme · 03/01/2026 13:00

I kept some chunky, long (almost knee length) cardigans and a couple of jumper dresses that I still like. Everything else I was thoroughly sick of, just as I was of skinnies, so they went.

miamo12 · 03/01/2026 13:02

I wear mine with straight legged jeans, hate cropped tops as I like my bum covered

TheOGCCL · 03/01/2026 13:09

I’d maybe try your shorter tops and jumpers with the skinnies as I think it gives a more modern look for those. Can always have a vest underneath if there’s a gap.

OriginalSkangCantGetInAccount · 03/01/2026 13:11

I think its quite sad that you feel there you can't just wear what you want? Do you think people will point and laugh if you wear skinny jeans?

Clearingaspace · 03/01/2026 13:14

Apparently there isn’t one style of Jean in fashion - wear what suits you and what’s practical. Skinny jeans are the best thing when it’s raining.

Elphamouche · 03/01/2026 13:15

I just bought more skinnies 😂

Seasaltchips · 03/01/2026 13:42

I still wear them with leggings.

I find leggings useful as I work out and need something that goes inside boots for muddy walks

MotherTuckinGenius · 03/01/2026 15:37

If skinny jeans are good enough for the glorious Claudia Winkleman they’re good enough for me. I will never ditch them cos I look bloody awesome in them. Wear what you like rather than what “fashion” dictates!

BusyOrca · 03/01/2026 15:39

I’m still wearing skinnies because they’re way more practical in the winter with boots. I’m finding it impossible to find jumpers long enough to go with them, so I say hang on to them if you like them!

Op never one claimed she wanted to wear skinny jeans?

countdowntonap · 03/01/2026 16:02

I’ve seen the young ‘uns on TikTok wearing very low rise skinnies for a while now- they are making a comeback already.

DolefullySingingMotherfucka · 03/01/2026 12:19

Still wearing them with my skinny jeans.

Same. I’m not going to get rid of perfectly good clothes, which I like and which suit me, because someone who wants to sell me more has decided I should.
