Welcome to the Toast thread where we talk about what we love, (and what drives us mad 😹), about all things Toast.

As usual, pictures are welcomed, as are comments, questions and info about Toastie topics.

@OftenOrange @neveradullmoment99 It's my full price parcel that’s gone missing, I don’t know if that makes it better or worse. I put a shout out on our local facebook page (we’re only a small village) but nothing yet.
But a missing parcel is really nothing compared to the problems for some people atm.

I tried on the dress and shirt again that arrived yesterday, and now I like the dress as well. I’m wishing I hadn’t bought two items in the same fabric as I can’t justify keeping both. Perhaps I’ll just send them both back and forget about it 🤔 .

TosstTastic · 10/01/2026 13:14

I'm finally keeping a Bryn.
Imaginary outing- country pub with careful choice of type font for celebration dinner. 'This elegant old thing, I just threw it on'

Sending back the £75 heathery ginger jumper. I've just bought a Finisterre one,£75, similar but without the nice shoulder seams, and it's a much denser knit if you put them side by side. It was a nice to have choice, rather than a necessary purchase, so one as a workhorse is fine.

TosstTastic · 10/01/2026 13:19

New job, new environment. It's been fun wearing stuff that wouldn't stand up in my previous life along with footwear that doesn't come with H&S paperwork.
I absolutely get what you mean about clothes being an interest. It is and looking back, always has been for me. Looking around lots of my co-workers are in the dress to be clothed rather than dress for themselves.
There's the odd one in something with more consideration. Looking forward to seeing if that will evolve or was just a nailed it choice on that day.

ScallopShellWalk · 10/01/2026 14:49

Received my cashmere blend wrap today that I bought on 3rd, a week today. It’s lovely and I haven’t taken it off yet. Other half says I look like an old woman 😆 well maybe I am an old women or maybe not yet. I can still get up a mountain. Anyway I’m now wearing clothes for me! Cat likes it of course.

faustina · 10/01/2026 15:32

My cord trousers have gone on a mini break to Kings Lynn so I won't get them til Monday now. I realise that isn't Toast's fault but all the same, I'm really disappointed at the glacial slowness of it all. I ordered on January 2nd!

llamashoe · 10/01/2026 15:40

first time wearing my velvet jumpsuit today. Loving it although need more ideas for what to wear with it. Currently in long sleeved black top underneath and blue cardigan on top.

Leftsidefacing · 10/01/2026 15:44

Made it to M&S and Tesco, along with the rest of Aberdeen, it was like a Christmas Eve in the 1970’s in town today! Still no bread but there is real milk and I got the last savoy cabbage!. Yea!!

I wore the green houndstooth coat, black thermal leggings with hiking boots (which I now know are not waterprooof 😩) and a fairisle jumper. I had an argument with DH in the car about something and nothing, this week has been so stressful.

When looking for DH (we’d gone to do our own bits of shopping to have a bit of time to calm down) I had trouble finding him as I was very nearly the only person in town not wearing a black or brown puffa coat, trainers and a beanie, which I thought was interesting. @ScallopShellWalk I’m 55 and I look very much like (my idea of) an old lady in my wool coat, but I don’t care, its lovely.

Home now and the snow has turned to ice and the temperature is dropping again. There is another amber snow warning for tomorrow, it shouldn’t stick though, fingers crossed.

alliscalm · 10/01/2026 16:00

My parcel arrived (ordered January 2). I’m keeping the brass patch pocket T-shirt which a gorgeous soft cotton. The spaces dyed skirt is already on its way back. Fitted around the waist but flapped around my quite ample hips and because the pleats are sewn down it needs to fit. Also, one button fell off and the other two were hanging by a thread - and they are the only fastenings on the wrap over. The fabric is wonderful though but it is oos in all sizes now.

On style icons, I realized recently the one I actually want to emulate is Diana Taverner. Maybe a slightly more Toasty version of her.

This terrifies DH.

But I reckon I can channel Taverner in the organza skirt.

I love Lady Di’s wardrobe, particularly the skirts.

ScallopShellWalk · 10/01/2026 16:43

@Leftsidefacing i loved the pic you posted of that beautiful green coat. This year I bought the brown Frankie coat and I love it. It’s like the kind of coat I imagine my mum would buy me. Nourishing.
Recently I was on the Isle of Mann for a funeral. I had to buy another outfit as my bag was at Heathrow delayed. I was desperately looking for a black coat to replace the one delayed but everywhere the only coats I could see were puffy coats. I then noticed everyone was only wearing puffy coats on the street. I did manage to source a black raincoat which is lovely but I hadn’t at all realised there were no options.
I used to live in Aberdeen and I can imagine lots of beanie, trainers and puffy coats. Though when I lived there the locals were hardy and hardly ever even wore a coat to speak of. Come to think of it I didn’t have a coat either. I do now and at 59 I don’t mind if I look like an old woman in it or not. Love my new wrap too.

OftenOrange · 10/01/2026 17:12

@Leftsidefacing Congratulation on the Savoy Cabbage , in Toast land I picture it peeping from a willow basket, a wonderful match to the green coat.
I have the same coat from 2 years ago and will always treasure it .
A couple of random men in Waitrose complimented me , one of the few occasions I’ve received feedback from strangers .

OrangeyLemon · 10/01/2026 18:12

I absolutely love that green houndstooth coat @OftenOrange and @Leftsidefacing I regret not getting it myself. I almost bought this year’s version which is beautiful colours, but it didn’t do anything for me somehow. I blended in too much.

I love Lady Di’s wardrobe, particularly the skirts.

I like DI Ruth Calder’s wardrobe on ‘Shetland’..but I then I would as I live in Northern Scotland and that’s almost exactly how I dress.

I believe the wardrobe mistress/buyer (I don’t know what her job title is) for Shetland is very active on S&B and DI Calder’s clothes have been extensively catalogued on other threads.

TosstTastic · 10/01/2026 19:13

Had to Google 'Shetland'. Yep, Looks like a Gia shirt!

I think Ashley Jensen was a genius bit of casting for Shetland, I love her to bits in it. I have to say Jimmy Perez didn’t do anything for me, even in his peacoat.

I especially like her thick wool trousers with lug boots, a jumper and a wool coat. Its perfect for pur Northern climate but the trousers are quite difficult to source, I’ve only managed two pairs, both Cabbages and Roses Tati trousers and they’re not quite thick enough. I’m planning on making some but the right wool fabric is going to be quite the investment, I think.

I never thought I’d be so thrilled to score a Savoy cabbage! One of my staple meals is a soup made of Freya broth, mushrooms, chicken and cabbage and I was missing it!

@OrangeyLemon The houndstooth coat in green is surprisingly bright, which is what I love about it. I saw it the year after in browns and it didn’t call me.

CheeseonToast2026 · 10/01/2026 19:33

@Leftsidefacing
I loved the Jimmy/Tosh combi and was sad when he left but adore AJ clothes and she is less dour

Shetland is my knitting TV .

Leftsidefacing · 10/01/2026 19:39

@TosstTastic So it is - I always think that shirt looks like a Travel Agent’s uniform. No offence meant to anyone who has it, or is a Travel Agent!

The grey belted trousers and green stripy jumper are just perfect.

ScallopShellWalk · 10/01/2026 19:44

I love “Shetland”. I really liked Perez but I like AJ just as much. The clothes always have me off checking where and what, including Tosh’s. I like her Didrikson rain jackets over a cosy jumper out in the cold. Her big scarf from the local shop r.a.m knitwear looks very interesting but not easy to get.

Mine too. I also recently took up crochet so this was my Shetland (not) knitting last season. (Magic Circles by Janie Crow).

@ScallopShellWalk Tosh’s clothes arw certainly better than they were in previous seasons. Black jeans and a black bomber jacket with a blue tartan shirt under it….alll season.

I see what you mean about the RAM scarves, it seems the pictures on the website are ‘reference only’ and if you can’t pop into the shop in Lerwick you have to contact them to discuss colours and buy.

ScallopShellWalk · 10/01/2026 21:58

Does anyone know when the sale ends?

ToastCosILoveIt · 10/01/2026 22:06

I don’t know when the sale ends, no, I would say at least another week. One thing that has surprised me is that there has been no further reductions, very unusual for the post Christmas sale. I am sure upthread that someone had said last year the further reductions came in around 7th Jan.

This sale does seem to have shifted a lot more stock this year, with things selling out or being in very limited sizes, so perhaps they don’t need to reduce. There are a few things though that aren’t selling (thinking the white kantha top) and need a further reduction to make them affordable.

I’ve said it many times on here but the white Kantha top is the one thing I’ve had my eye on. £170 is still too much for it though, let alone £345 - and although I’m no stranger to expensive clothes I think a lot of the prices at Toast have become quite…surprising.

ScallopShellWalk · 11/01/2026 09:53

The white Kantha top is out in all sizes except small. I ordered it in the end as I thought it was lovely, I like this colour in clothes and I hopefully will be able to wear it with what I have already. In the end I’m skint but I’m hoping I won’t remember that when I’m wearing it.

Does anyone know when the sale ends?

Soon I hope, I’m getting fed up with it.

My 2nd Jan parcels hopefully will be here tomorrow. I now think I’ve ordered the wrong size in the deco bottoms. Does anyone have them? They’re sold out. I read the size guide but afterwards realised it was a generic sizing and not actual item.

Did we not have a nautical theme one year before? I vaguely remember them talking about trousers modelled on the trousers Dutch fishermen wore.

Thanks for the info about where Nikki went to. It will be interesting to see if she can do anything with East. I have never bought from them. I noticed on instagram she hosted an evening thing. I had a Quick Look at the website but nothing appealed.
I so miss her lives. Obviously her replacement’s interests don’t lie in that direction.
I like Gabby doing them but don’t like the use of Instagram people who let’s face it just want to sell anything.

Love that scarf @Leftsidefacing .
