Welcome to the Toast thread where we talk about what we love, (and what drives us mad 😹), about all things Toast.

As usual, pictures are welcomed, as are comments, questions and info about Toastie topics.

The sale order I placed this morning was dispatched this afternoon, so back to normal there.

Unfortunately it was a silly order.

ScallopShellWalk · 08/01/2026 22:36

@ShrankLastWinter what did you order that was silly?

Leftsidefacing · 08/01/2026 22:50

@ShrankLastWinter I want to know about the silly order too. I’m verrrrry prone to a silly order.

I’ve got seven things in my Toast cart and keep getting reminder emails but I know if I really had use for these things I’d have bought them back in Autumn.

ToastCosILoveIt · 08/01/2026 23:01

ScallopShellWalk · 08/01/2026 21:47

@ScottishMouse my order on Sat 3rd had a dispatch email today.

@ToastCosILoveIt excellent! It’s good to hear you love that dress. I’m quite pleased I managed to get one. I didn’t notice it at first. Looks lovely. I hope it’s not too big for me. How do you wear it?

I wear it belted, with DMs. Have also worn it half unbuttoned with trousers underneath. Hate to say, I have the green and the blue. Love them both.

PrincessofWells · 08/01/2026 23:18

My cotton/linen pleated dress arrived today and I'm very thankful for the reviews in which it was suggested to size down. I ordered the 12 and it's lovely, the perfect lower calf length, with some room for layering. Perfect for warm weather but I think a merino polo neck underneath and my knee high black suede boots might make it doable in winter too, so that's a win.
@Scottishmouse I follow Angharad and love some of her styling tips, even though I'm a very different generation 😂

faustina · 09/01/2026 04:07

I love Agharad too - She is full of good ideas and it's a sort of ageless style. Also you can tell those are her actual clothes - she's definitely wearing them rather than the other way around

They sent me a despatch on the barrel leg cords on Wednesday but it still hasn't made it to Royal Mail, and no sign of them even sticking a label on my order for the gabis (on Wednesday too)

Do you think there will be further reductions? We haven't had that yet!

ShrankLastWinter · 09/01/2026 09:06

Thanks for the Angharad tip! I don’t want to get instagram but she has a website.

She shows a very striking blue and white Toast jacket as one of her successful sales purchases. I have that too, bought from reworn. It’s beautiful, gorgeous feel. But I haven’t worn it yet, partly because I’m not sure how to style it. Or in less wanky language, what to wear it with. Angharad wears it with a long white shirt sticking out the bottom, which is nice on her, but would be too messy on me and perhaps even more wrong for the neat-dressing environment I live in. So still pondering that.

The silly order was velvet trousers to somehow make the oversized velvet blazer (which I like but doesn’t look right) look right.

ScottishMouse · 09/01/2026 09:32

I bought and returned that jacket in the last sale @ShrankLastWinter. I mostly returned as I didn’t think it would be hugely versatile, but I did look at it this sale and wonder if I should try it again. It’s really lovely and quite cosy if I remember right.

OrangeyLemon · 09/01/2026 09:38

I was planning on wearing the round mohair cardi for work @ScallopShellWalk because it’s been freezing, and I suspect that that’s why everyone else has bought it! They’ve done something with the heating now and it’s suddenly boiling so another reason to rethink the purchase. It’s arriving tomorrow, purchased on the 2nd.

Someone higher up the thread said that clothes were their hobby. That’s what I’ve been thinking to myself in an attempt to assuage my guilt over my spending!

hicat · 09/01/2026 10:22

Yesss I agree clothes are my hobby too! I never seem to end up with things that I don’t get pleasure out of by simply looking at them. That wax bonnet hat is case in point. I just love it even though there’s rarely occasion to wear it.

I considered that velvet blazer too, though I thought it might be too long for my liking/style. I got the rounder seeming round neck cotton velvet jacket. I see almost all sizes are gone which is dangerous in making me want to keep it more before even seeing it… oooh it’s not actually posted yet so I hope I don’t receive an OOS apology 🫣

CakeAndJazz · 09/01/2026 10:29

I seems I should get my orders today I made on the 2 Jan. I reordered the striped linen sweater as the stitching was catching the eye - it arrived yesterday from what I’m assuming is a store (marketplace seller), but the stitching was even worse than the first one. Should I even bother to order another? Sigh.

I also received a full price order yesterday, the moss coloured oil pourer and it’s absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend it. I’m hoping for a reduction in price on the marbled pitcher too (I think someone else also mentioned this previously) - so am hoping prices get reduced soon.

ShrankLastWinter · 09/01/2026 10:55

The rounder velvet jacket would probably fit much better in my wardrobe. More useful shape. But it’s pure black which is too harsh on me.

Another one who’s decided clothes are a hobby. In fact my DC pointed out to me that they’ve become a hobby, especially since I lost weight and enjoy looking better.

ScallopShellWalk · 09/01/2026 13:01

@ToastCosILoveIt my organza skirt arrived and it fits me fine. I’m really pleased about that as I really liked it online and like it even more irl. Happy purchase there. Wondering if it’ll go with the navy buttoned organic cotton dress? When it arrives.

ScallopShellWalk · 09/01/2026 13:17

@OrangeyLemon id be interested to know what you decide on the cardy. it’s less fun when you know someone close by has the same knit. Tho it might be just what you need.

I’ve been feeling guilty too. I don’t usually buy in January sales and it’s been a mental struggle. I actually haven’t many nice things in my wardrobe to wear on an outing which didn’t bother me before as I didn’t go out but I do now. That’s my justification and I like good quality clothes. As someone said before it’s nice to look at pretty things. I’m enjoying the clothes I have bought.

Leftsidefacing · 09/01/2026 14:03

@OrangeyLemon That was me. Clothes are genuinely my hobby (in that I’ve been designing and making them for 30 years as well as buying), They’ve also been my profession.

I’m not telling myself that to assuage guilt over spending. Just so we’re clear 😉

Leftsidefacing · 09/01/2026 14:08

@ShrankLastWinter I have instagram and wish I didn’t. I’ve deleted all my posts but somehow baulk at deleting the account even though its nothing but adverts and people wanting to pick arguments. I’m in my fifties and don’t have facebook, I don’t know why I think I want instagram!

Same for me. I don’t use Facebook, Twitter (obvs), have recently deleted Substack and I know Instagram is not a force for good, for me personally or in general! However I do occasionally discover someone or something new to me that I value. I have a new app that lets me ‘brick’ my phone during certain hours and my IG use has subsequently dropped a huge amount. Interestingly, when I go on it now I find it far less compelling which is very good. Social media feels like it’s on its last legs to me!

Leftsidefacing · 09/01/2026 14:57

Instagram was the only one I used, because I followed a few creative people (and my favourite brands including the individual Toast shops) I’d met through making, but even that seems to attract nastiness now - I have to say mostly from what seem to be extremely young people with very fixed ideas. And the adverts! Oh my.

I don’t think substack will last very long, I know it is the way things are going now but I can’t be the only one who can’t quite get my head around the idea of paying for access to individual blogs.

MsDastardley · 09/01/2026 14:58

I received a delivery today :) I am really pleased with the black velvet skirt, I think I will wear it loads. Does need shortening though as almost at my ankles! A little project for me to do before autumn.

The velvet cocoon dress has already been returned. Colour was lovely, but other than that it did absolutely nothing for me.

It's been a fairly modest sale for me, a skirt, summer dress, and 4 pairs of socks. Managed to get the trousers I liked in a smaller size, so hopefully the low crotch issue will be improved!

There's a couple of full price things I have my eye on, so will do an order once new drop has been released.

Well they are both very long @ScallopShellWalk , I wonder if the skirt is longer than the dress though. They show the dress on line with one of the elasticated waist skirts (which I also have): I think it would also go with wide (or narrow) jeans, or as a light/indoor coat over a tee/blouse and trousers. I am going to get my navy one out over the weekend and play with it across some outfits, thanks for the inspiration!

hicat · 09/01/2026 15:48

Ohh order from 5th Jan just processed so they’re catching up. Though I see someone else ordered yesterday and it was posted yesterday hah!

ScottishMouse · 09/01/2026 15:48

It has been the leanest sale on record for me - a trivet and a set of candles!! Everything else went back. As usual (and as discussed earlier in the sale), I ordered a few things that I had said no to at full price, but this time remembered to be very fussy and sent them back again knowing if I had loved them I would have bough them at full price. I tried a few other things but again asked myself if I would have bought them at full price, and if the answer was no then back they went.
I bought a couple of new things before Christmas which have been totally winners, so I’m happy with that - the cashmere wool vneck tank in stone, and the white oxford shirt with the covered buttons.
No sign of the new drop online. I wonder if they will wait a week until the sale has all but petered out.

OftenOrange · 09/01/2026 16:14

@ScallopShellWalk @ToastCosILoveIt Am I the only one now wanting to join club Organza Skirt ?
I can now see the beauty and virtue of owning it , and when did need have anything to do with it ?
I’m definitely a clothes hobbyist, and I’m taking a leaf from @hicat and thinking they can be enjoyed without feeling that they have to be workhorses.

I returned some things to store this morning and had a very Quick Look at the new things, as has been said there are lots of stripes, and in Union Jack combo which isn’t my colour choice . One iteration is a short boxy kimono type jacket which looked lovely , but the longer version was a bit men’s dressing gown , they were both in the window display.
There was a dress and a blouse in a floppy shiny fabric, covered in cursive handwriting .
I’m wondering if they have a new design team……..

I received my second refund today, which was quicker than the previous one. Last order was returned yesterday. I can’t believe I have returned everything I ordered - that has to be a first.

I think the storm will have affected plans for a new drop and everything else unless I’m mistaken that Toast is still (again?) based in Wales - am I?. Here in Aberdeenshire the snow is melting so…yea!

We’ve had no postal service since 28 December and the bins haven’t been emptied in four weeks and counting, (because of Christmas day and New Year’s Day being on our bin day and snow since). We can finally get the car out but the shops are empty of all fresh food and very little of anything else left. Its actually getting quite grim!
