I need to look fabulous

I've lost half my body weight and it so happens my ex husband will be attending the same conference as me in March. Its a big pagan thing so wear what you want
I need to look fabulous.
Has anyone seen any amazing pieces recently you can share with me. It would feel really good to put two fingers up.
I am 64 but enjoy fashion and can wear pretty much anything. My arms need to be covered and it will still be quite cold.

Just bear in mind at one point he found you irresistible so you don’t need to put in loads of effort because you are already his type.

The phase dress is fabulous!
If youre set on the blazer, I would go with some straight leg satin trousers, and a sheer top under the blazer.

Honestly find something you love and will feel amazing in without thinking about him at all.

Depends on budget, but how about an embroidered maxi dress:

Night Moves Black Lurex Maxi Dress - The Hippie Shake https://share.google/soEgi2Xv2KIGDSqvT

Christina Hendricks X Joanie - Bergamot Water Lily Border Print Midi Dress | Vintage-Inspired Long Sleeve Dress | Joanie https://share.google/DO7nwy14UNR4BqRpA

Sublime Witches Knot Embroidered Button Up Midi Dress – Disturbia https://share.google/XZO1BZdhY3rg4SrNW

I love this dress.

Okay - I guess most of us presume if someone posts in Style and Beauty saying they are into fashion, we presume they mean current fashion.

But different groups have different fashions, style and sense of beauty.

None of this is my idea of fashion. I was just suggesting a few dresses that I thought the OP possibly like as an alternative to some desperately dated eighties stuff being suggested. If you want to go around looking like Cher, then you do you. I really don’t give a fuck.

Nah, generally I’m just in a Maiden shirt and desperately faded black jeans (in summer I generally wear thinner cotton trousers.. love a band shirt over a long sleeved t shirt. Love a band hoodie in this weather. Everyone is very proud of the statements the shirts make and enables you to find other fun people. But love sometimes dressing up in some black Lacey top or the type of dresses I’ve linked. Have ordered the phase right dress that someone linked- love the flared sleeves.

You clearly have an idea in your head of what you want which is great. I'm not sure that MN sees that vision but that's ok. 😊

If you want that jacket, why not embrace it and get some tit tape and a statement necklace and embrace the bare chest. That can look very striking.

If you do need sonething under it, get a low cut vest type thing in a luxury fabric.

If you're going with that jacket, it's a statement in itself so don't compete with it. Maybe some plain cigarette trousers?

Ultimately though, you'll only feel fabulous if you are comfortable in what you are wearing.

We have different tastes in music but similar styles, by the sound of it. DMs, jeans or a black skirt, and a Smiths T-shirt here a lot of the time! Not fashionable, but it does me fine most of the time!

Calliopespa · 02/01/2026 13:27

Brilliant suggestion!

To me that has a pagan vibe (or at least whatever I think that is), but is still stunning, formal, great for a neat waist, (which you said you have op), covers arms and the sleeve detail is reminiscent of the eyelet jacket you liked OP, but I think much more feminine.

I really like that.

ETA as well as being demure its also quite sexy - more so than the jacket I think op. Sexy but without looking desperately or obviously so as though you were hoping he would notice!

Gettingbysomehow · 03/01/2026 18:40

The jacket turned up and it didn't look fabulous it looked a bit cheap. I was bedazzled by Julien MacDonalds name on it. I'll keep it to wear with velvet wide leg trousers at some occasion or other, its nice enough but not for this.
I look better than I ever did during our 20 year marriage, I was fat for all of that.
Some great ideas on here thanks. I need sleeves though. Weight loss hasn't done my arms any favours.

What exactly is a pagan conference? (Not the point of the thread I know, but I can't get into it without understanding. That jacket doesn't look remotely druid-like ...)

Its a two day pagan festival with lots of speakers on various occult topics, an evening do with dancing, opening and closing ritual and usually some music and the usual stalls for shopping and supplies. I know about 50% of the people at these events. Its a close knit community.

Would a black jumper dress and tights do for daytime? Has the advantage of sleeves but also a bit bodycon to show off your new figure.

Maybe order the green Mint Velvet dress to try as a possibility for the evening of dancing?

Ah ok thanks, That helps me envisage it better.
I think the suggestion of the dress by @Katrinawaves was fabulous.

You have had a lot of comments on outfits, so I won't comment further on this.

But,

It is how you carry the outfit off. You walk in there with a shit tonne of confidence and your head held high. Be yourself, but with an extra bit of va-va-voom. This is what will be noticed more than just the outfit you are wearing.

🌷

Hrft but This.

And yes it's fine to want to look good in front of your ex. You may need a confidence boost to face him/her/them if clothes do.it, brilliant..
