I need to look fabulous

I've lost half my body weight and it so happens my ex husband will be attending the same conference as me in March. Its a big pagan thing so wear what you want
I need to look fabulous.
Has anyone seen any amazing pieces recently you can share with me. It would feel really good to put two fingers up.
I am 64 but enjoy fashion and can wear pretty much anything. My arms need to be covered and it will still be quite cold.

This looks like something for a London office worn by someone very boring you’d stand out like a sore thumb in that at a pagan conference esp with those shoes. If you had wear that, you would have to wear Docs

I really don’t think satin dresses are standard London office wear. I seem to have touched a nerve. You do you - I really don’t care what you wear. I don’t own any of the dresses I’ve linked to; I’m just offering some alternatives to the nasty jacket, lace and leather leggings combinations.

There’s different types of fashion though. The fashion at pagan events would be very much what you’d find on disturbia or hippyish

Okay - I guess most of us presume if someone posts in Style and Beauty saying they are into fashion, we presume they mean current fashion.

A metallic top could look great with the jacket, picking up the eyelet detail. This one's an actual designer number, reduced to £67. You're unlikely to bump into anyone wearing the same.

My instinct says pair with a long, black, ruffled lace skirt (they're all reduced post-party season, too) or a silver one. My head's thinking black & silver devoré, but that's because I saw something like it months ago and I have no idea where!

Possibly these glittery leggings?

Might be too shiny overall, I dunno.

@Gettingbysomehow you’re giving him far too much headspace. Wear what you like and make sure you are the centre of interest by your focus energy and interest in others. That is far more fabulous than trendy clothes.

Id assume a pagan conference would be pretty much socks and sandals for men over 50, Camper pelotas or Peus for men under 50 and the sort of “fugly” stuff done by Toast or Cabbages and Roses for women. Not slightly trashy form fitting nylon velvet …

ParmaVioletTea · 31/12/2025 21:08

I’d think art school cool if it were me. I have a really stylish Donna Karan suit in a silk/wool mix which looks cool but neatly put together. I can wear it with Campers or Primark plimsolls and a plain tshirt or a silk shirt. It just does the business.

But my style is relaxed tailoring which looks put together (otherwise I look like a bag lady).

Calliopespa · 31/12/2025 21:08

What exactly is a pagan conference? (Not the point of the thread I know, but I can't get into it without understanding. That jacket doesn't look remotely druid-like ...)

I like Cabbages and Roses. But they don't do clothes now.

Although I have a few Ghost dresses - bias cut satin backed crepe. Better made than the Nobody’s Child linked here (I’ve looked at things like that in JL) Something like that would be a bit more boho.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 31/12/2025 21:23

Does black suit you OP?

Bloozie · 31/12/2025 22:02

i really don’t like the jacket. And it would help to know your body shape. But based on your inclination towards a jacket because it suits you, I’m going to hazard that you’ve got a decent waist…

Tulle skirt, chunky boots, fitted fine knit jumper, wide belt. Emphasises the waist I imagine you wanted the jacket to emphasise.

BigSkies2022 · 01/01/2026 10:11

Does a dress have to mean ‘mini’? Pagan suggests Kate Bush/Helena Carter-Bonham in their pomp to me. Long skirts, fitted jackets, boots, makeup, big hair. There’s a Dark Academic thread on here which might help with that look if you’re interested?

Jumpsuits are also very unkind to flat bums. Rear mirror check definitely required before buying!

I do have loose skin unfortunately as I lost a lot of weight but nothing "hangs" and nothing is visible under clothes. I always had a small middle even when I was fat so there is no apron belly its mainly just my arms. Im pumping iron at the gym to sort that out.
Im a 10 to 12.
Lots of great suggestions thank you. I may or may not ditch the jacket. Will have to see how it fits when it arrives.

The best thing you could do is get your colours done - you’ll look like a million dollars in the best colour for your skin tone no matter what you are wearing

Not touched a nerve at all lol. But just trying to explain your idea of fashion doesn’t suit all occasions and it would look incredibly out of touch in the environment being discussed

None of this is my idea of fashion. I was just suggesting a few dresses that I thought the OP possibly like as an alternative to some desperately dated eighties stuff being suggested. If you want to go around looking like Cher, then you do you. I really don’t give a fuck.
