I need to look fabulous

I've lost half my body weight and it so happens my ex husband will be attending the same conference as me in March. Its a big pagan thing so wear what you want
I need to look fabulous.
Has anyone seen any amazing pieces recently you can share with me. It would feel really good to put two fingers up.
I am 64 but enjoy fashion and can wear pretty much anything. My arms need to be covered and it will still be quite cold.

I think black leather trousers and suede or snakeskin ankle boots would look great with your chosen jacket.

Perhaps with a really chunky and interesting silver necklace of the Georg Jensen style? Or an Hermes Collier de Chien choker if you have an elegant neck.

I'm a black leather trousers, knee high boots kinda gal myself at 60 but i'd definitely wear this...

This is gorgeous!

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the jacket…but if you like it and feel good in it, then you’ll be confident, which is half the battle.
I’d try a tulle/lace maxi skirt - M&S have some really nice ones in the sale, with either a pair of chunky boots to give it a bit of an edge, or a pair of high heels if that’s more your vibe.

Well, it’s all far too Cher/Debbie McGee for my liking. And if the OP wants to stand out, she’d do better in a bit of colour and a nice, more modern looking dress. It doesn’t have to be a sack.

you’ve clearly never been to any subculture events. If her ex is going to be there - he’s prob more likely to think she looks stunning in clothing usually seen in those events than in a little pink frilly dress or whatever you think is suitable.

TMMC1 · 31/12/2025 14:18

The jacket is awful, sorry OP, please don’t choose that.

dress with coat? https://www.la-s.co.uk/products/button-through-gathered-midi-dress-black?_pos=5&_fid=46c14b241&_ss=c

I ordered this from Zara recently and it's going back because it's a bit gothic for me but could work really well. It's an easy wear and looks more expensive than the sale price it is. I'm on the larger end of a size 12 and ordered a L and it fitted well as a guide

Christmaseree · 31/12/2025 14:28

How about a blow dry on the morning of the event?

Gettingbysomehow · 31/12/2025 15:22

What was the point of the thread though, if you've already decided on the jacket?

I wasnt sure what to wear with it.

Actually yes! I do like those skirts.

Such a challenge as you don’t want to fall into the cliche Pagan-conference vibe like everyone else

A little frilly pink dress? Surely there's something nice between that and the 'sexy' Cher stuff?

And since neither of us know her or her ex, we have no idea what his tastes might run to.

5128gap · 31/12/2025 16:08

Definitely a dress. In green, midnight or crimson. Fit and flare. Long with ankle boots. If you can't dress like a goddess at a pagan conference, where can you?

I don’t suppose most of us on here have been to one - I read conference and thought work, and then saw Pagan so didn’t really understand where the OP was going, until I read more posts and got the gist of it.
The OP said she was into fashion, so I think @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupiepointing out that some of these looks are very dated is fair. Obviously those of you that know about these events have an idea how people dress for them, which evidently is not in a particularly fashionable way.
The Mint Velvet dress is lovely and I think fits the bill, as well as being stylish.

ParmaVioletTea · 31/12/2025 16:54

@Gettingbysomehow I think the fabulousness you seek will come from your energy and attitude, not your clothes. People with energy, interest in others, and an open attitude could wear a bin bag & people would find them charismatic.

Wear clothes in which you are comfortable & confident. I'd say at 64 (I'm 67) that more is more - no need for cleavage or a short skirt.

But form fitting at the waist, maybe. Make sure you've had a great hair cut & you smell lovely.

Then ignore your ex completely, and become enthralled with those you meet - talk as if you are having the time of your life, with energy & focus on others. You'll become a light around which others will gather (moths to a flame) and you can leave your ex out on the edge.

"I've lost half my body weight and it so happens my ex husband will be attending ... I need to look fabulous... to put two fingers up"

I accept that MN typically is blinkered but do you really not understand the implication of that wording?

Edited

For all you know he might have beaten her black and blue. He might have run off with another woman. He might have been cruel to her for years. I’m sure there are many divorced women who have good reason to want to stick two fingers up at their ex-husband.

There’s different types of fashion though. The fashion at pagan events would be very much what you’d find on disturbia or hippyish

I guess if you want to wear boring clothes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/12/2025 16:25

This looks like something for a London office worn by someone very boring you’d stand out like a sore thumb in that at a pagan conference esp with those shoes. If you had wear that, you would have to wear Docs

I’d rather wear boring clothes than a fucking ugly jacket with holes in, or showing off my bra. I don’t think the MV dress I posted way down the thread is boring and the OP said she liked it. She can wear whatever she wants, as can we all - but I’m sure it’s also possible to be pagan and not look as if you’ve wandered off the Paul Daniels Magic Show in 1883 or as if you’ve stolen one of Cher’s old stage costumes.

The jacket really suits my shape, I know what suits me and it will look great. I don't want to look too formal as its a smart/casual event. I don't like to show my knees in tights because Im waiting for a knee replacement and my left knee has a big bony lump at the side wwhich looks a bit weird, the surgeon is going to remove it, otherwise Id wear a short skirt....the horrors of being in your 60s but other than that Im slim and don't look "old" I Iook better in trousers or a close fitting dress.
I do love this jacket though. Its right up my street.
Being a pagan do there is a lot of black going on at these events.
That mint velvet green dress is very nice. That would suit me.

I like the jacket, I like outfit the model is wearing with it, cigarette pants with heels sort of thing, glam. But it doesnt say pagan, I dont get it?

Pagan wouldnt be glam in any sense of the word as far as I see it.
