I want a scent that smells like baby powder... or something

I bought a second hand coat and it has THE most glorious scent on it.

Wearing it is like being snuggled up in a warm towel after a bath when I was three. Or maybe being hugged by some warm, glamorous mother figure (definitely not mine!) who sweeps in from a cocktail party, engulfs one in her fur stole and says "Hello darlings, did you have a lovely day?"

I can only think it must be similar to some common product of the 1970s... but I can't really say what, and I wouldn't know where to begin describing perfumes.

The scent seems to be all over the coat, so probably hasn't come from a personal perfume.

Um, with that hopelessly vague brief, might any kind perfumista please have suggestions for something lovely and cosy so I and my wardrobe can smell like a glamorous snuggle!

It's discontinued but if you can get a bottle of Bvlgari Petits et Mamans I think you'd like it.

Philosophy do a scent called baby grace which smells like a childhood hug.

I immediately thought of Chanel no 5 tbh.

I agree, it has that powdery soft glamorous mum quality to it after wearing for a while.

Versace red jeans is quite baby powdery. And cheap.

Annoyingly it was just a few weeks ago that I read a rapturous review of a perfume that was described as smelling exactly like that - but I can’t remember what it was. Possibly something from Frederic Malle or Parfum D’Empire, if you care to look through their fragrance offerings.

For that 70s glamour try Celine Haute Parfumerie. I was almost brought to tears by La Peau Nue in Selfridges a couple of years ago, so strongly did it recall how the grown up world smelled then, to my childhood nose. It’s lovely, and soft, but too ephemeral at its price.

Sun moon stars by Karl Lagerfeld had a base note that was powdery and soft. Your description sounds gorgeous.

Agent provocateur original perfume is baby powder ish, and one of the dupe companies do an actual baby powder one, I think it’s on the noted aromas website.

On a less fancy note, my daughter went into Lush yesterday and came out smelling of baby powder! I think it was a spray called Snow Fairy.

Have a sniff of Ghost and see if that fits the bill. It's not baby powdery, more like a slightly rose-scented talc I think.
