Camo gear at 63

Gettingbysomehow · 07/12/2025 19:47

I went out to the pub tonight to meet a friend wearing camo trousers, a green fleece, a baukjen camo jacket and army boots.
Some wag asked me if Id just come off manoeuvres on Salisbury Plane and everyone laughed.
How can I get away with wearing camo at 63? Maybe not so much all at once next time. Mix it up a bit? Im not even sure if its ok at my age but I do LOVE the baukjen jacket. Please style my camo jacket for me!

I’d say only one camo item at a time.

Frenchfrychic · 07/12/2025 20:00

Yeah that’s not a good look, you can wear camo sure, but never more Than one at a time, or you will look a little silly.

bodyofproof · 07/12/2025 20:03

I have a jacket like that, usually wear it with jeans, trainers/boots and a black top

henlake7 · 07/12/2025 20:06

Yup, wear it with anything......except more camo!😅

DramaAlpaca · 07/12/2025 20:09

Just one camo item at once. You wouldn't wear head to toe leopard print, would you? Treat camo in the same way. Oh, and probably not camo trousers with army boots either.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2025 20:09

Well… one way to get away with full camo is to become a birdwatcher and carry a sodding great big telescopic camera around.
Though even then it’s maybe a tad OTT for walking round reserves with perfectly civilised hides…😂

TheChosenTwo · 07/12/2025 20:10

Were you just finishing up a special ops mission?
camo jacket and trousers, green fleece and boots - they scream practical and utilitarian, is this just how you dress? No problem if so, and no need to change if you don’t want to!

And yeah not army boots to complete the look, remember youre not actually trying to look like a soldier, or you shouldn’t be,

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 07/12/2025 20:19

I think the mistake was to go OTT on the Territorial Army Volunteer theme. It's a bit like double-deniming. No. Less is more. Style the jacket with non-army related clothes.

Lols. Yeah, this.

Terrytheweasel · 07/12/2025 20:31

That does sound like a funny outfit tbf! I’m not a fan of camo but a polo neck jumper with jeans or black leather trousers would definitely work and trainers (not boots) with the jacket.
As precious pp’s have said, one camo item at a time.

Frenchfrychic · 07/12/2025 20:34

Op also count the army boots as camo wear.

so if you’re wearing the jacket, don’t wear the boots. If you’re wearing the trousers, don’t wear the boots. Wear trainers or something else. And don’t go matchy matchy,

it’s not age related, no one can get away with head to toe camo and army boots. Doesn’t matter if they are 18 or 80. Unless it’s Halloween.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/12/2025 22:18

I have also been known to wear head to toe leopard and that wasnt a good look either. I was "inspired" by a magazine photo shoot.

Come on, @Gettingbysomehow - had you sold your mirror?

Each of those garments would be ok on its own:

The camo trousers with a sequinned vest and mohair cardigan, or velvet jacket.

The green fleece - roll it up inside your sleeping bag until summer.

The jacket - a cashmere vest and silky pleated or bias cut ankle length skirt, or a silk camisole and floor length wool flannel skirt.

The army boots - put them away until spring and show your wallet some tediously dainty but fashionable flat not quite ballet shoes.

Really it’s a matter of mixing luxurious, non-military fabrics and shapes with one camo thing.

Gettingbysomehow · 08/12/2025 18:20

I have learnt my lesson for sure.

Wear what you like @Gettingbysomehow . Your age isn't relevant.

You sound like a character op.

If you don't mind the comments, just keep going.

If you do, one camo/leopard skin item at a time.

Can we hear more about this one?

Gettingbysomehow · 08/12/2025 18:24

I used to wear outfits like that in my biker days when I rode big bikes, we all did so it was like going back in time. But I've given up my bike now because I think I would break every bone in my body if I came off these days.

Kindly OP are you ND?
Age had nothing to do with it. Wearing hear to toe of anything- pink, stripes, camo gear would make me thing someone was in fancy dress or as they said- just come off manoeuvres or in from a hunt/bird watching etc.

As you already said yourself, keep it to 1 item only- MAX.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 08/12/2025 18:51

I don't think you'd have got away with that at 23 either, OP! I love a bit of camo but less is more.

Very likely JDM as most of my family is. I could never see the point of getting a diagnosis as I am successful career wise and manage.
Apart from the occasional fashion crimes 😂
