Camo gear at 63

Gettingbysomehow · 07/12/2025 19:47

I went out to the pub tonight to meet a friend wearing camo trousers, a green fleece, a baukjen camo jacket and army boots.
Some wag asked me if Id just come off manoeuvres on Salisbury Plane and everyone laughed.
How can I get away with wearing camo at 63? Maybe not so much all at once next time. Mix it up a bit? Im not even sure if its ok at my age but I do LOVE the baukjen jacket. Please style my camo jacket for me!

could have got the whole wardrobe + for the cost of that jacket at any army surplus store, AND the boots.

I got it really cheap in the sales and the cut is beautiful. It fits perfectly unlike previous camo I've bought in army surplus which is cut for men primarily. It was most definitely worth the money.

Even if I say so myself I did think the head to toe leopard looked fabulous, although it attracted quite a bit of side eye bearing in mind this is rural Somerset not London. No turban though.

Correct. Wear it like leopard print - it’s an accent. Not your base colour.

Damnloginpopup · 10/12/2025 06:45

Full camouflage is something not to be seen in.

I have a huge amount of various camo but it's definitely a one at a time pattern. Even when I served (early 90s) I thought that - dress would be either smocks and lightweights (camouflage jacket and olive trousers) or combats (camouflage trousers and camouflage jacket). The latter looked gash and was really only for the field. Nowadays it's combats for everything and it's not the best look.

This link is comedy, so clearly taking the piss out of wearing head to toe leopard. It’s not fashion advice one should follow.

Having said that, op you can wear what you like (as long as you’re covering up essential bits). However, you need to be aware that some outfits scream “look at me” or look like you’re dressing up for Halloween. It doesn’t mean you can’t wear it, but you need to be prepared for looks and jokes/comments about your outfit. It has nothing to do with age. A 20 yo wearing head to toe leopard print or cameo will also get remarks, as it looks odd whatever the age of the wearer. If you find jokes/comments about your outfits annoying then you need to tone it down. Only one leopard print or cameo in any outfit. This also applies for sparkly clothes, stripy clothes, floral patterns, geometric patterns….

I think she looks fabulous.

Everybody has the green Dahling! You need to mix it up.

My preference is the grey 'city' camo for tee shirts and the dark blue night time, for jackets or trousers, that one was popular with the mercenaries.

BreezyPeachGoose · 10/12/2025 11:30

How did they see you?

Lararoft · 10/12/2025 12:10

I don’t see why you shouldn’t still ride your bike OP, my neighbour is early 70s and rides a Harley, they’re a bit slower than the Japanese bikes and therefore harder to come off unless someone hits you!! She’s so cool.

I have very complex hip replacements due to childhood hip dysplasia that was never diagnosed when I was a baby. The surgeon advised me not to ride again because if I break them repair might not be possible. I can't take that chance.
I was devastated. I ride really well but unfortunately other road users don't.

That doesn't answer the question. What's JDM?

Just doesn’t matter

Stravaig · 10/12/2025 16:13

The solution is to wear your camo and leopard together, so it looks like you've successfully stalked your prey then draped it around you to pack home. No one will dare comment 😆

DuchessofStaffordshire · 10/12/2025 17:44

Ordinarily I'd say less is more but if you'd really like to go the whole hog I have a house full of army getup that you'd be welcome to. I don't think the look would be quite complete without the addition of a chest rig, bergen and a dab of camo cream. You could start a new Home Guard for when the Russians invade.

trainedopossum · 10/12/2025 19:28

I love camo and military clothing but yeah, one bit at a time. When I’m carrying my camo bag I don’t wear the shirt, jacket, snood etc and I don’t wear military-style boots with any of it. Trainers, sandals, dressy/pointed flats, loafers, cowboy boots, even walking boots are better.

I like the Americana hunting/workwear aspect of camo, so flannel, tartan, leather or suede, knitwear, anything worn and outdoorsy pairs well.

I do have some yellow camo trousers at home, they look pretty good.
