How much do you pay for gel nails?

If you get gel nails done professionally, how much do you pay? Just basic nails.

Mine averages out to about £38 per visit but she does a good job. I'm wondering if that is normal?

£20 and she doesn’t charge for removal. Cornwall. This is significantly cheaper than others locally though and I do suspect that it’s a money laundering outlet…

I Think different areas of the country differ, I used to live in Cheshire and they were expensive. Now I live in South Yorkshire and they're a little cheaper here unless it's a high end salon or nail art etc. I think normal where I am would be around £25-30 although sadly I developed an allergy to BiAB and my nails are wrecked now. So yes I think £38 is expensive. However the skill levels vary so much I would stick with it if you can afford it and the technician is excellent. I see some awful ones on social media, I can and have done better myself at home. Out of interest where do you live?

Also I'm very jealous of pretty nails as mine are now so damaged and swollen (even 2 years after my original allergic reaction) so please share a photo of your pretty Christmas nails

There is no way a nail tech is being paid NMW on that rate. Is she self employed?

CareerConfusion16 · 05/12/2025 17:18

Mine was £38. I’ve bought everything to do it myself (£150 all in). I figure that by March next year (assuming I do them every 3 weeks like I like to), I’ll be saving money.

whatsit84 · 05/12/2025 17:19

£23, Sheffield. More if you want nail art.

workingcocker · 05/12/2025 17:21

£20 plus £5 for removal.

TheToteBagLady · 05/12/2025 17:21

£30. I changed salons because the salon I used to go to increased their price to £40.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 05/12/2025 17:22

25 just got colour with no add ons.
38 at my salon is a lovely spa manicure.
East Yorkshire

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 05/12/2025 17:24

£25. Gloucestershire
No charge for removal as long as the nails were done there

Didntask · 05/12/2025 17:25

£50-60. Either hard gel or BIAB base, then colour/design etc. Lots of prep too, the appointment is usually at least 2 hours long.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/12/2025 17:25

£28

It’s not really that commenter’s problem though is it?

spanieleyes · 05/12/2025 17:28

£35. They do a lovely job and, as it’s only every 3-4 weeks, I can justify the expense!

autumn1610 · 05/12/2025 17:29

i pay between £45-60 depending on what I have done / £5 is for Biab so basic colour would be £40 - Sheffield

Franpie · 05/12/2025 17:31

It would be around £25 in London for basic gel colour. I have biab underneath which is £10 more. My DD has chrome or nail art etc and then it goes above £40.

logsahc · 05/12/2025 17:43

£22 inc removal (self employed)

Mikart · 05/12/2025 17:47

£35 including removing

GumFossil · 05/12/2025 17:50

Nothing! I do my own, no gels, just nail varnish. Really old-school as I don’t even know anyone that does their own.

But I have good nails and I’m a bit of an expert at painting them after so many years. I love doing it too, it’s so relaxing.

My colleague pays £35 for hers. They look nice, but I don’t love the thick look gels have.

CoastalCalm · 05/12/2025 17:53

£20 at home she does my mums at the same time

Did I say that it was? Do you generally struggle with inferring sentiments that aren't there?

Clefable · 05/12/2025 18:12

£38 for builder/structure gel including removal. That includes nail art too. Worth every penny, she’s fantastic.

Badslipperluck · 05/12/2025 18:13

£35 for biab I always go for single colour no nail art. The last two places I visited were £30 each. Gel without biab is cheaper.
