Could I wear this outfit to a Christmas Eve wedding?

Could I wear this to a late afternoon Christmas Eve wedding? Friends are getting married this year and I’ve left it very late to get an outfit. I want to look glam casual as that’s the stated vibe. DH going black tie. Plan would be matching shoes and an ivory coloured calf length faux fur coat that I already own. Concerns are that it looks inappropriate for a wedding or that it’s too light or close to bridal colours. Opinions please.

Yes, I think it’s a wine colour but I do like it and I’ll definitely wear the top again.

Also, tell your DH - glam casual is not black tie, unless he's got inside info.

It’s so weird when people up the ante dress code wise. At my wedding one (thought he was posh) bloke wore a morning suit. Everyone was so confused that he was part of the wedding party. Rest of the male guests in dress suits.

I’m so sorry I’d say no to the light colour and personally would t like the burgundy

Shortandfatandpaleandlovely · 23/11/2025 12:07

I've been to two weddings where a guest wore a white outfit - in one case the mother of the groom, the other an aunt of the bride.

It did provide lots for everyone to talk about at the wedding, so great ice-breakers of the 'have you seen what that woman is wearing? Is she grooms ex who's crashed the wedding? She's his MOTHER!!!' etc.

Neither bride upset beyond eye-rolling, but 15 years on, my group of friends still reminise about Aunty Pat in her white satin slit to the thigh dress at Ruth's wedding.

Wish people would read the thread. The red is perfect

Unless you’re the bride don’t be that person.

agree. No, this beautiful dress is far to light to wear to a wedding - even if it is called champagne!!!

JFDIYOLO · 23/11/2025 13:12

Absolute no to white - unless the bride has asked everyone to.

Only the bride wears white is the usual etiquette.

You don't want to be that woman in the sarky sneaky videos on social media headed 'what was she THINKING?'

Burgundy / red gorgeous for a Christmas wedding. Very Ralph Lauren Christmas.

canklesmctacotits · 23/11/2025 13:26

I think gold is totally fine, at any wedding but especially on Christmas Eve. If you’re worried, wear blue or green or red jewelry and shoes/handbag.

😆 Why would we be trying to upstage them? I’ve already said upthread that I’ve opted for the red now.
DH is wearing black tie but with new white trainers. This is what a significant number of the men are wearing. It was difficult to gauge. What would you suggest men wear to a glam casual wedding? I don’t think glam and casual go together for men’s attire but happy to be corrected and I’ll pass it along to them all.

I asked if you were trying to upstage because most people know not to wear white/ivory/champagne at a wedding, unless specifically asked to. I didn’t see a mention of a red dress.

I work in the industry, I wouldn’t put glam and casual together for any attire. I’ve never seen black tie and new white trainers, my teams would assume someone forgot to order the appropriate footwear and would have a quiet chuckle. It sounds like a ridiculous combo, almost celeb stage wear. 😂

Firstly, I would not wear white or ivory. Whilst this is listed as ‘champagne’, it definitely looks more gold in the flesh. Plus it’s covered in sequins which I thought also made it look more party vibe and less bridal vibe. But anyway, as I’ve said lots, I’ve opted for the same outfit in red. I’ve no idea if she’s even wearing white as they’re quite quirky/trendy but now hope she’s not wearing red! 🤣🤣🤣
As for the black tie and trainers combo. I don’t think any of them were sure what to wear. The wedding is at a registry office followed by meal and band at a small, trendy venue. At least they’ll all be dressed the same! 🤷‍♀️

It’s not white, it’s actually gold and doesn’t look bridal in the slightest but regardless, I’ve gone for the red!

Do you mean you wouldn’t like that if you were the bride? Or that you, personally, wouldn’t choose that colour as clothes? If the latter, that’s fine, but I like it and the colour suits me but if you mean the former, then please explain why? I’ve actually ordered it now but if there’s a reason the bride might object then it would be useful to know.

Oh no, just a personal thing!!!!

Alittlefrustrated · 23/11/2025 15:50

I'm much more concerned about the coat TBH. You say you wouldn't wear ivory, but your OP says your fur coat is ivory. There is a high chance of a Christmas bride wearing white/cream/ivory fur.

Marieb19 · 23/11/2025 16:18

No

My mum wore white to my wedding, in fact a few people did. Never even occurred to me to be bothered.

MrsBlobby64 · 23/11/2025 17:43

The burgundy version is stunning & the in colour right now - I would choose that…

Hollybollyhughes · 23/11/2025 18:07

In any other colour but not this one. If it's a winter wedding, wear warm colours, burgundy, teal. You get the picture. Christmas weddings are lovely, enjoy.

AliceMaforethought · 23/11/2025 18:10

Ilovenovember · 22/11/2025 15:38

It’s lovely but I’d say it’s too white to be appropriate.

Nobody follows that outdated 'rule' any more.

susiedaisy1912 · 23/11/2025 18:13

No it’s too white and bride like op.

Drillsky · 23/11/2025 18:23

The burgundy hits the brief beautifully. Bit of a PITA dress code though. Your husband's doing exactly the right thing going with safety in numbers.

Threesacrow · 23/11/2025 18:24

It's gorgeous but too close to white.

gardenflowergirl · 23/11/2025 18:44

No. Nope. Not at all. Wedding guests should not wear bridal colours, ie ivory, white, cream etc. you've got plenty of time to get something else.

opencecilgee · 23/11/2025 19:18

No dude
