Could I wear this outfit to a Christmas Eve wedding?

Could I wear this to a late afternoon Christmas Eve wedding? Friends are getting married this year and I’ve left it very late to get an outfit. I want to look glam casual as that’s the stated vibe. DH going black tie. Plan would be matching shoes and an ivory coloured calf length faux fur coat that I already own. Concerns are that it looks inappropriate for a wedding or that it’s too light or close to bridal colours. Opinions please.

Yeah you absolutely can’t wear that. Think again.

What I always wonder about these threads is why the guest doesn’t simply ask the Bride, assuming they know her reasonably well? I couldn’t have given a toss if somewhere wore white or cream or ivory to my wedding, I have to look at the photos to remember what anyone wore as it is.

Because it’s about self absorbed as you can get.

The bridal will have countless other things to think about, without being distracted into considering guest outfits as well.

Not to mention putting her in the awkward position of having to say no if she truly doesn’t want someone else wearing ivory.

Better all around to just pick a non-bridal colour.

tsmainsqueeze · 22/11/2025 16:40

Absolutely yes ! It's lovely and it's not white , the full on sequins make it acceptable, it's not bridal for me.

PinkPonyClubDancer · 22/11/2025 16:46

Good lord no. Unless you’re an attention seeking knob.

Well in this particular case there’s an argument that it’s not as self absorbed as choosing Christmas Eve for your wedding, but ok. Presumably a decent number of guests will have had to plan their own Christmases and their own million things to think about around attending. Fine for a regular guest who can simply decline, but tricky for close friends and family of the couple who are put in the awkward position of saying no if they have incompatible travel plans or traditions of their own. In the bride’s position I’d be grateful people were coming, regardless of what they wear.

Blueuggboots · 22/11/2025 16:59

Absolutely not.

Offloadontome · 22/11/2025 17:04

Genuinely thought it was a wedding dress at first glance at the photo!! Can see it's sequin, but definitely not the right colour for a wedding. I'd choose a different colour.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 22/11/2025 17:06

No, not appropriate for a wedding- you’d look like you wanted to be the bride / a bridesmaid

Owly11 · 22/11/2025 17:07

🙄

Bigearringsbigsmile · 22/11/2025 17:08

Absolutely not

In ANY other colour but the 'champagne' which just look cream then yes.

The red version looks lovely.

PS5Gamer · 22/11/2025 17:46

Nope!
Go with the red, or any other colour and leave the Ivory faux fur coat at home too!

Cakeandusername · 22/11/2025 17:46

No far too white. I thought you were asking to wear at your wedding. It’s very bridal.

TheDenimPoet · 22/11/2025 17:50

Takersgonnatake · 22/11/2025 15:39

I think it’s gorgeous and very wedding suitable as long as the bride isn’t precious about you wearing ivory. Maybe check with her, but it’s beautiful 😍

Precious? It's not "precious" to want to be the only one wearing white on your wedding day, for goodness sake.

OP just be respectful and don't do it. If you ask the bride she may say yes out of politeness, when she would really rather you didn't wear it. Just pick something else. You have a month to get something! It isn't that hard.

WittyTaupeFox · 22/11/2025 17:55

No definitely not suitable (unless the bride is Chinese and wearing a red dress to her own wedding).

Viviennemary · 22/11/2025 18:17

You aren't the bride. So absolutely not

CathyBlowsBubbles · 22/11/2025 18:17

Ok, firstly, I will not be asking the bride. She’s not the type to care, but that’s not the point. The last thing I’d want to do is make any bride feel upset or uncomfortable on their wedding day. Therefore, I’ve decided to go with the red. I also have a shorter black faux fur coat 😆 so I’ll wear that over it and some nice black patent ankle boots I already own.

I don’t think it was unreasonable to ask the question because I genuinely wasn’t sure. This was in part because it’s more gold looking in real life and I also wondered if the style and sequins made it look very far removed from anything bridal. However, I’ve fully taken on board all the comments and chosen something else so there’s no need to any rudeness. If I ignored advice and went ahead then fine, but I haven’t and didn’t.

Thank you to those who gave advice!

Fgs would people read the fecking thread!

3luckystars · 22/11/2025 18:19

No you can’t you ape. 😂

StephensLass1977 · 22/11/2025 20:43

Nope. It might look pale gold in real life but this is way too bridal and light, and out of all the dresses and colours out there, please don't choose this one. Rightly or wrongly, you'll upset people and be the butt of gossip.

Drachuughtty · 22/11/2025 20:46

The red will be a lovely outfit OP.

I'm wondering who gets married on Christmas Eve though. That must surely be a big pain for lots of guests? Have a good time anyhow.

Doggymummar · 22/11/2025 21:43

You can dye it, or you have weeks to get something else. It's not tomorrow

Absolutely not! I see you’ve said it’s more gold in person, but clearly in photos it’s very white, so think how that’ll look in all the photos from the wedding! You don’t want to be the one being gossiped about by everyone there, and everyone who later sees the photos, as the guest who “tried to look like the bride”. Even if the bride didn’t care, other people absolutely will and WILL make comments. The red version you’ve posted is much more appropriate.

It's nice to see someone asking advice and then taking it!
@CathyBlowsBubbles I hope you have a lovely time, I'm sure you'll look and feel great in the red outfit.

AnnaPhylax · 22/11/2025 23:33

Absolutely not, also glam casual is not black tie. You will look like the bride and groom, are you wanting to upstage them?
