Could I wear this outfit to a Christmas Eve wedding?

Could I wear this to a late afternoon Christmas Eve wedding? Friends are getting married this year and I’ve left it very late to get an outfit. I want to look glam casual as that’s the stated vibe. DH going black tie. Plan would be matching shoes and an ivory coloured calf length faux fur coat that I already own. Concerns are that it looks inappropriate for a wedding or that it’s too light or close to bridal colours. Opinions please.

No

Iliketulips · 22/11/2025 15:51

It's lovely. Do you know the bride well enough to ask if she has any objections. My parents were struggling financially when I got married, the only outfit my Mum could afford which felt right was cream - she asked me if I would mind - and personally it wasn't a problem for me, but some people might.

elevenpiperspiping · 22/11/2025 15:52

It wouldn’t have bothered me. Do you know the bride well enough to ask?

MayaPinion · 22/11/2025 15:52

This is also on the Roman website and would be perfect for a glam casual Christmas Eve wedding where your DH is going black tie.

So a full ivory/bridal coloured outfit, including a long coat? Is that you Aunt Sarah?! 🫣😆

🤣

That’s nice but I am looking for long sleeves.

Don’t ask the bride. You’ll put her in an impossible situation. Even if she did say it was ok, it’s probably not, and you will be judged by others. My then SIL wore a white jacket to my wedding, despite my brother asking me beforehand and my saying I’d prefer she didn’t. As they’re seated in the church photos, it’s all you can see.

chattyness · 22/11/2025 15:56

The red or the purple would be much better.OP

Thanks everyone! It does look lighter online but I take the point. It’s actually a pale gold. There’s a darker red I’ll link to. Would this be better?

Yes 😊

Mokeytree · 22/11/2025 15:59

In some pictures it doesn't look very bridal coloured but some it does so difficult to say.
I like the purple best but probably would go for a different top

I’m guessing this is a tv or film reference but I don’t know it! 🤣 The coat is very plain, long, double breasted.
It’s actually not anywhere near as pale in person but I’m willing to accept it’s still not the way to go. Think I’ll buy the red. To whoever asked about black tie, that’s what a lot of the men are wearing so he’ll be fine.

Definitely don’t do this. Bride will have enough to think about without considering guests’ outfits as well.

Bournetilly · 22/11/2025 16:01

It’s too light, the red is perfect for a Christmas Eve wedding.

Top no longer available in purple and for the occasion, I’d like to match. Ordinarily, I’d wear blk top with the purple or red skirt.

Absolutely not.

Choose another colour.

yep why even risk causing the slightest offence on someone's wedding day.

bigboykitty · 22/11/2025 16:05

Absolutely not, as you obviously already know. Unless you're the bride?

Teado · 22/11/2025 16:06

Don't ask the bride. Just wear another colour.

It’s a nice outfit for a Christmas 🎄 wedding - have fun.

It's my absolute favourite bit of Derry Girls. Here's the relevant part.

CheeseWisely · 22/11/2025 16:09

The red is gorgeous, and makes me wish I had a special event to go to this year!

CheeseWisely · 22/11/2025 16:12

What I always wonder about these threads is why the guest doesn’t simply ask the Bride, assuming they know her reasonably well? I couldn’t have given a toss if somewhere wore white or cream or ivory to my wedding, I have to look at the photos to remember what anyone wore as it is.

Gettingbysomehow · 22/11/2025 16:14

No!!! First rule of weddings don't wear anything white or off white. Its just not done. The amount of people on mumsnet who have bought a wedding type dress or gown and ask us if its suitable for a wedding. No it isnt and never will be. There are a huge rainbow of colours to choose from.
Unless like my cousin the bride chooses to wear purple in which case white is fine.

amiadickhead · 22/11/2025 16:17

you can't be serious 😂

I totally get the sentiment and I wasn’t asking to be flippant. It’s much more gold coloured in RL and I was genuinely wondering if that coupled with the fact that it’s not a dress or anything that would look like I was trying to compete might mean it was ok. But I’ve asked the question and taken on board the answers and will now opt for something else or same outfit in a different colour.
