Beautiful dress on Kate. Would have loved her to go all out with some emerald bling as well.

smilesy · 20/11/2025 07:39

Love the green velvet dress on Catherine and she looks happy and healthy in all the photos I’ve seen. Really interesting that jewels from the Greville collection are getting an outing

CurlewKate · 20/11/2025 07:49

Really don’t like William’s rig - it somehow looks scruffy. And horror of horrors, that looks like a “vampire”-although I’m sure it isn’t!

Chesticles · 20/11/2025 08:23

I’ve just looked at the talbot runhoff website and they have some stunning dresses! Which I had the figure and occasion to wear them.

eggandonion · 20/11/2025 08:34

William has nicer evening wear that his valet needs to help choose.
Kate needs a good hairdresser to sort out her good hair. At times she looks tired...so do I but at least I don't have to go out and be photographed. Green really suits her.
The whole family must be fairly exhausted after the past few years.

Maireas · 20/11/2025 08:49

I thought Kate looked lovely last night, not tired in the least, and absolutely glowing!
Maybe they've had sleepless nights worrying about Sophie's laundry 😉😄!

Catherine looked lovely, I've just realised what a long body she has, she dresses it really well.

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 20/11/2025 09:09

The Greville tiara would have paired beautifully with that dress! I've loooong wanted to see Catherine wearing an emerald tiara. Unless there's another piece in the vault, we're now left with the Vladimir which is a stunning piece but I think will swamp her a bit.

I wonder if she'll wear some more substantial pieces in coming years. I kind of hope so, but on the other hand she'll have her time as Queen.

I think the Oriental Circlet would be lovely against her colouring and dark hair. Maybe for Christmas!! Any big events coming up? I know the Carol service is due but she won't wear a tiara for that...

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/11/2025 09:15

When I was 3 I watched the ceremony of the installation of the Prince of Wales with my mother. Apparently I complained bitterly throughout because the Queen wasn't wearing a crown. I still feel that there should be a lot more bling on many more occasions! Camilla is doing her best but I feel like Sophie and Catherine need a free run in the jewellery vaults, too.

She had high heels on under it too, for even more height.

William should have had his jacket done up, it was open in all the pictures I saw. I know I'll probably have to leave the thread for saying this but I though he looked better in the double breasted one last week.

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 20/11/2025 09:16

I think sadly there just aren't many events anymore where this sort of bling is appropriate. Same as you just don't see full on gowns and gloves, furs, etc.

Maireas · 20/11/2025 09:16

Yes, Squeaky, we definitely need more bling !

I don't get the impression that either Sophie or Catherine are particularly into the bling. Which is a pity, if i were in their position I'd be trying to wear a tiara to breakfast!

I am wondering if there was a wardrobe malfunction? Catherine normally wears UK designers unless there's another state involved (I.e. a state visit here, or a royal tour for her). It seems odd to debut a German designer so soon before the German state visit, so maybe there was a problem with another (probably Jenny Packham!) dress that was planned for last night?

Maireas · 20/11/2025 09:46

That's stunning. Some very elegant pieces on their website.

That is a very good point that a German designer last night is unusual. Perhaps she decided the planned dress was not what she wanted to wear or there was a problem and she had this one to hand.

So will she now buy another German design for the state visit?

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 20/11/2025 11:56

She may have bought a selection of dresses from the brand to allow for eventualities; I doubt she'd bring in anything completely new this late before a major event - she seems the type to have every single element worked out well in advance.

But if anyone can swing a very last minute purchase/fitting session it would certainly be Catherine and I'm sure the brand would happily oblige!

I hadn't realised the State visit was so soon. I think a deep red gown with matching ruby tiara* would be so nice in December. Hopefully Cams is reading and agrees. 😁😁

*For Catherine, that is.

Sidebeforeself · 20/11/2025 11:57

I’m thinking a rewear for the German state visit. No idea which one though . I also agree that we need more blingy events . I will never criticise a woman for wearing too many jewels!

It's a shame - looking back at photos of the late Queen and Princess Margaret - every time they went out to an evening event, even the cinema, it was full evening gown and tiara. It seems like the UK rf wants to play down the "bling" although Camilla seems keen and can really pull off the big jewels.

At least in a few weeks we'll have the Nobel events - the Swedes love to bring the big jewels from the Bernadotte collection....

I was wondering if this was a dress she loved when they were researching and planning for the upcoming German events - but it didn't make the cut for the German state banquet, yet it had the drama for the Royal Variety Performance.

But everyone dressed up for the theatre or for a restaurant in those days. The royals may have had better bling but they wouldn't have looked out of place in the way that Catherine would today if she dressed up a frequently.

Cassiope · 19/11/2025 21:36

@Sidebeforeself I actually prefer how she is wearing it - looks unusual and dramatic.
Agreed.

@mdinbc Someone else may be able to find better pics, but I think Queen Silvia's gown is stunning, with the dramatic floral embellishments. If I'm being picky, I think less decoration at the neckline would have enhanced the overall effect, but it's a beautiful dress.

Edited

I bet Queen Silvia's coat is real fur!

Pallisers · 20/11/2025 14:57

I love the green velvet dress - Catherine looked beautiful - perfect jewelry as well. I still think she should cut a few inches off her hair.

There should be a law that all the bling has to be worn or displayed to the public.

CurlewKate · 20/11/2025 15:03

I’m in a minority of one-but while I think the green dress is a lovely colour and the earrings are fabulous-I don’t think it looks particuarly good on her. Much better in off the shoulder mode.

eggandonion · 20/11/2025 15:07

Unworn bling could be hired out. Mothers of brides could rent something lavish to outdoor mothers of grooms or vice versa.
Is Sophie back soon? Are her dresses all washable? I swear my husband has kept the dry cleaner in business recently while all my things go in the machine.
