As I thought, it is designed to sit off the shoulder. Talbot Runhof is not a brand I'd heard of before but I had a look and they have some stunning gowns.

Joining the enthusiasm for Kate's green velvet and dangly earrings.

On fur, I don't like the fake stuff, partly because it is fossil fuel-derived, but it's also much less warm than genuine fur, so can't serve the same insulating function. Large scale farming of fur from non-food animals for fashion items for the wealthy and privileged is a big no for me, but sustainably, ethically killed fur used for practical coats, hats etc. – I don't see why not.

I have a gorgeous jumper made from merino wool plus New Zealand possum fur yarn. Possums aren't native to NZ and are regarded as an invasive pest, so turning them into beautifully silky, warm knitwear is considered an ethical solution. No possums in the UK, but if some enterprising person manages to turn grey squirrel fur into clothing I'll give it a go (even if squirrels are just rats with delusions of grandeur).

Maybe Camilla, Kate et al. could don a very glamorous sheepskin coat for the chilly yards? There are some utterly fabulous ones around (I covet, but don't really have a use for glamorous outerwear, never mind the required budget. I do have genuine down duvet jackets though - and they too are both warmer and lighter than the artificial equivalents).

You were right! Yes, I'd never heard of Talbot Runhoff before, either.

That green velvet is really lovely. I do hope there’s a nice blanket in the car though for the way home (to cover the knees a la Queen Elizabeth) - she must be freezing on such a cold night.

According to this article, Catherine’s only worn 4 of the tiaras since becoming a royal. And on surprisingly few occasions - just 18.

Yes, our RF don't wear them as much as the European royals seem to. Not many occasions either, as you say, and only 4, which includes the Cartier Halo wedding tiara. I like the Strathmore Rose tiara.

I like Kate's dress from the boobs down but I'm not keen on the neckline, in some photos it looks very 'constrictive' and makes her arms look a bit out of proportion (ie not flattering). Her forearms look huge compared to her upper arms as if they're squished by the capey/shoulder hugging sleeves. Other than that, fabulous! Would have looked lovely either way the emerald tiara, or Diana's emerald choker.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 19/11/2025 20:56

That's because it's meant to be off the shoulder @frugalkitty but Kate has pulled it up!

mdinbc · 19/11/2025 21:05

Here in Canada we had the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visiting for a state visit. Royals here get the smallest of mention on the TV news and on-line. No mention of who wore what. I did notice the Queen had a very nice diamond bow brooch on her red dress and matching coat for the meet and greets, but no photos of gown at dinner.

I wish there was a bit more fashion gossip in our news.

themessygarden · 19/11/2025 21:09

The earrings are fricking amazing, even more so when you read the history, along with the bangle !

I too checked out the dress brand, had never heard of them either, they are on the map now for sure, their dresses are absolutely amazing. I could imagine Catherine showcasing half of their collection.

Sidebeforeself · 19/11/2025 21:14

sure she will have had it stitched in place so she’s not fidgeting with the neckline all night. I actually prefer how she is wearing it - looks unusual and dramatic

Cassiope · 19/11/2025 21:36

Agreed.

@mdinbc Someone else may be able to find better pics, but I think Queen Silvia's gown is stunning, with the dramatic floral embellishments. If I'm being picky, I think less decoration at the neckline would have enhanced the overall effect, but it's a beautiful dress.

Ah, yes, that probably explains it!

Thank you so much for that ID! The Greville bequest was something, those are beautiful.

I'm doubly glad I ordered Maggie Grenville biography now.

ExquisiteDresses · 19/11/2025 22:01

Catherine looks AMAZING tonight, the long hair works so much better with the lower neckline compared to the suit and bow yesterday. I like the way she's worm the neckline, it's distinctive and works well.

Eaumyword · 19/11/2025 22:32

Bit late to the party, but Kate looks absolutely stunning! Wow. Beautiful dress, colour, jewels, hair&makeup. Fabulous.

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 19/11/2025 22:50

Beautiful, beautiful dress and Catherine was stunning! Everything was perfect. I do wish she'd cut her hair, mind. Just to that lovely shorter length she had some years ago.

justasking111 · 19/11/2025 22:59

Wow great minds think alike colour wise

The twins look sweet, cute formal picture! I'm not keen on Charlene's outfit, she can certainly carry off white, but perhaps it's the suit proportions. I always think trouser suits never quite look right with a formal hat.
Nice to see the rest of the family.

I do love a saucer hat with a veil. I remember Meghan wearing one some years ago that was a gorgeous deep blue velvet.

miri1985 · 20/11/2025 00:22

Love the green velvet

I do wonder about her necklines since shes had treatment, when she was talking to someone else who had cancer she mentioned having had a port, I wonder is she self concious about the scar or knows that if she showed a scar it would be front page news.

Lunde · 20/11/2025 01:21

I love those Greville earings and the emerald green dress

ApolloandDaphne · 20/11/2025 02:00

That's a beautiful green velvet dress. Oh how I wish I was tall and willowy!

Lifestooshort71 · 20/11/2025 06:50

Yes, she looks stunning in the velvet! As to her arms, I think she may have lost some muscle tone in her upper arms (possibly missed out on some of her workouts, unsurprisingly). Her hair looks very glam as well and I always think it always suits her more when it's off her face - personally I find the curtain look a bit drippy on most people even the beautiful PoW.
