I agree @CurlewKate, lovely dress but it doesn't suit her at all, it accentuates how thin she is and the off shoulder version with sleeves is much better.
There is a shot in Hello where it looks like her hair is shoulder length and it looks great. Sadly just an illusion.

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 20/11/2025 15:29

It would've looked better off the shoulder, that's true.

@eggandonion
I swear my husband has kept the dry cleaner in business

The royals indirectly keep our local dry-cleaner in business via DH. Every time he is on ceremonial duty or a royal event it lashes it down and his uniform has to be dry cleaned.
The coronation did wonders for the military taylors, lots of uniforms updated/ refitted for the day, then half of them got horribly out of shape in the rain and had to be refitted again then there was the addition of coronation medals for 1000s. They had a busy few months.

I saw a documentary about all the uniform preparations for the Coronation, it was absolutely fascinating.

I wonder if the RF have reduced the bling because the optics aren't good with the COL, so much hard feeling towards Andrew, taxpayers money being used blah blah. Also as someone else said, we have all gone more casual, who'd have thought a few years ago that most people would be wearing trainers in the office and ties would only be for very formal occasions. I'm in conflict here, I love being more casual myself but I do love seeing the bling on the Royals.

Sidebeforeself · 20/11/2025 16:34

Bit outing but my Son in law used to fit the royal households military uniforms!

Maireas · 20/11/2025 16:50

It must have been crazy busy, @WarrenTofficier Yes, I watched that programme about the uniforms and insignia, @ExquisiteDresses
It was fascinating. That family had been doing it for generations, and originally had worked in Russia for the Tsars.

I think, unfortunately, when it comes to bling they are a bit damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If they bring out all the baubles, there will
be those who say it is out of touch and unnecessary flaunting of wealth etc, but if they don’t wear them
there are those of us who think it’s a shame 🤷‍♀️

Speaking for myself, I’d end the whole pantomime tomorrow. But while they’re still there, the least they can do is put on a good show for me to look at with jewels and posh frocks and gold coaches and white ponies. There is nothing more patronising and insulting than some of the richest people in the world pretending to be just like us-“recycling” dresses aka “wearing a dress twice” and not having tiaras at the coronation and decanting their cornflakes into Tupperware.

That's for another thread.
This one is about the style, thanks 🙏

I bet Queen Silvia's coat is real fur!

The Canadians still wear their fur. Tripped over a website looking for hats once. The hats, gloves etc were all trimmed.

Sylvia's dress, what an amazing shade of blue.

Apologies-I can’t help myself…

BasiliskStare · 20/11/2025 19:23

I know that people will say you don't need to cut your hair because you are older - And I Agree. I just think the length of Catherine's tends to drag her face down a little. I do think a good 6 inches off would still give her the long bouncy option but a bit less like what my granny would have called "a yard of pump water " but still enough for a decent up do when she chose.

That said I thought she looked happy and healthy . & yes bring out the bling I say. I think Camilla has got tiaras and necklaces off to a T. But I think she dresses well much more than she doesn't. Especially on big occasions.

Maireas · 20/11/2025 19:35

I think you just need that confidence, don't you? I suppose the temptation is to think, is it all a bit much?
Then I'd look at Mary of Teck, a woman who wore a tiara every single evening for dinner, as well as a dozen necklaces and say "go for it!".

I liked the green dress but did think it an odd fit around the bust. Also in some photos it looks very shiney / velour like. The hair is a choice.

Meghan on the cover of HB also a choice. I’m not massively keen on any of the photos, they’ve gone very high fashion editorial not sure it works. I could say more about the content but will sit on my hands!!!

Choux · 20/11/2025 20:38

Sophie is probably home by now (although I think Edward is still in Nigeria). They seem to be doing the bulk of the RF’s overseas travel possibly due to the King’s health and the Wales children being young.

She was obviously blue to be leaving as she wore a blue and white patterned dress for her last night and a blue and white striped dress for her departure. Plus her previous skirt has been ID’d.

It would've looked better off the shoulder, that's true.

(Just quoting you for context, this post isn’t specifically aimed at you! )

But the German company who made the dress have been interviewed in the German press. They have said the dress is past season, and it had been purchased entirely normally. They were contacted by Kensington Palace yesterday to give them a heads up that Catherine would be wearing their dress, and that was the first they knew about it. They have since put the dress back on their website, and invited people to email them to go on the waiting list for a restock.

Anyway, the original website pictures show the dress was worn as intended - it was never meant be off the shoulder.

Maireas · 20/11/2025 20:52

Interesting, thanks Serenster. Imagine them not knowing that she had bought it and was going to wear it!

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 20/11/2025 21:03

Ah interesting. I thought it looked fantastic the way she wore it, tbf. I think maybe her torso is just a little too long for the dress - it sits a bit more comfortably on the model.

bluegreygreen · 20/11/2025 21:11

I liked the fact that it wasn't off the shoulder, as so many dresses are these days so it was a little different. Glad to know it was worn as intended!

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 20/11/2025 21:14

Yes you're right, it was interesting and something new for her! I think it just looked slightly overstretched/tight over her shoulders. But still fabulous. Her whole look was gorgeous.

Evening all

Thank you for the new thread @Maireas
