I really don’t like the tiara-it’s too big for her. (Is that the new “diamond shoes are rubbing”? “her tiara is too big”?🤣)And the PofW’s first act as King should be banning Orders with evening frocks.

I totally agree, especially about the orders which I get irrationally peeved about whenever I see photos. They get to get completely and fabulously gussied up (Princess Anne excluded 😂), and then ruin their dresses with those monstrous orders and sashes.

RuncibleSpoons · 04/12/2025 08:04

I’m another who thinks William looks much improved with his beard.

deeahgwitch · 04/12/2025 08:27

I’m not keen on William’s beard.
Kate looked lovely.
As did Sophie wearing an array of jewels.
Is that a new tiara she’s wearing ?
I’m not keen on the orders either. All a bit daft.

Maireas · 04/12/2025 08:34

We think Sophie was wearing her aquamarine tiara.

I like it. He looks more like George V with every passing year I think.

eggandonion · 04/12/2025 09:01

William and Kate are very tall. My mil likes people to be tall despite most of the family being shortarses. I agree an updo might help the tiara. The advantage of Kates hair is she could do a lot of styles.
Anne needs one of those ladies to go through her wardrobe and remove some clothes and advise on others. I have looked at Camillas dress and it is what my mil would approve of.
I think it probably is chilly...a pashmina might be useful or a bolero. This is what is advised on mother of the bride threads😀
The room looked amazing!

bluegreygreen · 04/12/2025 09:19

Interesting comments about the family orders. I was disappointed Catherine wasn't wearing the late Queen's order but assumed it was due to the style of the dress. I hope she hasn't stopped wearing it.

Harassedevictee · 04/12/2025 09:20

I know tiara’s look best with an updo but I suspect Catherine is being very careful not to damage her hair and updo’s may not be right for her at the moment.

Maireas · 04/12/2025 09:22

They're not going to stop wearing the Orders at diplomatic banquets. It's not about the fashion like it is for us.
I don't mind them, all royal families have them, and the Danish RF seem to bring them out a lot.

I'm going against the grain and saying that I think the loose wavy hair looked lovely with the Oriental Circlet. Like a medieval princess 😉

Yes, and I think it looks more modern than an updo.

bluegreygreen · 04/12/2025 09:35

Yes @Harassedevictee - I also wondered if her scalp might be more sensitive as well

I agree. I think she looks very regal with the circlet and the cape sleeves. And I also don’t mind the orders and sashes. They came from a time when the dress fashion was different and they don’t always look right on a modern silhouette, but they signify the office of royalty and if the men wear them, so should the women

Good points. Otherwise, it's only the men wearing them. I think they look fine, like part of a uniform.

I like the orders and sashes. Without the history and heritage what point is there.

Exactly. It's a State Occasion.

ExquisiteDresses · 04/12/2025 11:07

I like the orders and sashes too, they are what distinguishes the RF from other posh dinner party people. It is all part of the history and pomp of the occasion.

I agree Catherine may be avoiding updos because of her hair and scalp being delicate, with hair that long an updo is going to be heavy and require a lot of pins.

Exactly. As I said upthread, without them, it's just another black tie event.

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 04/12/2025 11:37

Next time she wears the tiara I think the half up style we know Catherine likes might work quite well, with some hair through the back or maybe plaited and pinned around the front and sides. But yes, I expect it might be painful or sensitive just now.

I am very happy that she wore it, I think she looked fab and I actually really like the tiara, it's very crown-like and adds gravitas, as befitting her status. I think it may well be intentionally symbolic that she's been given a truly substantial piece to wear.

It's just a shame that it obviously wasn't quite centred and didn't sit exactly right. However I still think it looked great. Especially in profile where we saw the full crown effect.

bluegreygreen · 04/12/2025 11:45

I was thinking this - I think I'm right in saying it's only been worn by queens before?

For me, there’s no point to any of it or any of them. I’m only here for the glam 😂

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 04/12/2025 11:50

Yes but without that we wouldn't have the glam!

ExquisiteDresses · 04/12/2025 12:20

I'm as fascinated by the history, relationships etc as I am by the clothes so the sashes etc are all part of the package for me. Otherwise might as well follow any old wealthy celebs.

Very Guinevere 💖

justasking111 · 04/12/2025 12:28

I've lost some hair post surgery which is quite normal I'm told. I'm being very careful gentle with it. Not too much washing, brushing, chemicals. It will grow back.
