Hello style mavens, let's continue the chat...

Edinburghs at the races today. I like Sophie's coat, and think Edward's outfit works, despite the dreaded double-breasted jacket.

Edward's suit is not too bad, and I like his hat!
Very '40s vibe.
Sophie's coat just looks awful, the colour, shape and fit. Nope.

I like the fabric of the coat, and the full skirt. I don't like the bow at the collar.

That hat really suits Edward. I do wonder why he wasn’t wearing a coat though. He must have been cold

I think Sophie's coat would look better with a HEEEOOOWGE (fake) fur hat.

I like the coat, but not the bow.

It has a sort of timeslip vibe. Edward has been demobbed and they have raided the wardrobe. They must be happy to be back from their travels and getting over jetlag.

The hat and the boots and the bag don’t match but I love the jaunty pink. Sophie wears her clothes a wee bit too long.
She looks really well considering she must be tired after all her travels.
I don’t think Edward’s hat matches his suit- it needs a coat. But the hat suits him.

Sophie’s coat is awful. It looks as though it’s been bundled into her charity shop sack and she’s pulled it out again in a moment of regret. The hat looks more suited to summer so doesn’t go with a winter coat. I like her a lot but she hasn’t done herself any favours here.

As pp says a massive fake fur hat would be great. I lost my fake fur hat. I might try and source one for dh to buy me for Christmas.

Oh dear, agree with pp's. Sophie's coat whilst quite a nice colour, is too long and voluminous and the hat looks strange.

Sophie and Edward can almost get away with simply atrocious clothes because the press don’t take much interest in them. But the hats, the double breasted suit, the ghastly coat, really?

I’m not convinced that coat actually belongs to Sophie. The way the cuffs are turned up and the terrible fit makes me think that it was a last minute substitution of some sort. The hat looks like it should be part of a Summer dress outfit.

I think that suit works on Edward because it fits, often his suits look too big, and alto the lapels are steeply angled and low-opening IYSWIM, with the two sets of buttons not too widely spaced. Sophie’s coat, I like the bow, unusually for me, but it isn’t flattering on her lower half with the pockets and the volume.

Camilla looks fabulous in that coat and hat.

Camilla looks great. I love her slightly naughty expression in that photo 😆. I love Edward in that hat and I quite like the retro vibe. I think there is too much going on with Sophie’s coat and the hat is more suited to a summer outfit

It is definitely Sophie’s coat as she has worn it at least three other times over the last two years including Christmas Day at Sandringham. And the sleeves are not turned up but have bow details on the end.

The 2023 Christmas Day pic (I think the first time she wore it) she is either standing at the perfect angle, is wearing just a slip underneath, it hangs much better when not walking much or it has been photoshopped. Or I guess perhaps she is more bloated or a few pounds heavier in later wearings.

It seems difficult to accessorise as it’s probably too pale for black hat etc as the contrast is too harsh. So she seems to favour various browns, creams and wine tones with it. Am not sure any of them totally work and as the skirt of the coat is very long and voluminous the overall effect is ‘messy’ rather than sleek. She also looks like she needs a better bra in the Newbury photos from this week. A miss for me (without even mentioning the pink ribbon)

Sophie's coat isn't that bad. The bow at the shoulder is a weird design choice: the angle just looks wrong and it's too big to have any other way, but the bow detail at the cuffs works well. The full skirted lower half is dreadful and it would work much better at jacket length- losing the pocket flaps or moving them to below waist height. It might also look better if she sized up, because the torso seems tight compared with the sleeves.

Straw hat and winter coat, on the other hand - there's no excuse.

I would wear it but then I have no fashion sense.

Think the pink hat looks like felt rather than straw.
