They sound like a good investment, @DuchessOfPort . I like that outfits can look good, fit well and are flattering. Definitely an investment.
It's certainly going to give that brand some traffic!

Oh I wish I had somewhere to wear this one. Perhaps Kate will wear it at the state visit for me.

@DuchessOfPort I never really thought anyone would be following in Angela Merlel’s style footsteps. I also can’t imagine her wearing any of the TR clothes on the Harvey Nicks and Outnet websites as I only seem to have found occasion wear. No sensible suits.

DuchessOfPort · 21/11/2025 16:38

Even Mrs Merkel had to dress up sometimes!

I think I am more Angela that Kate. Angela had a lovely smile on occasion and my husband told me she had a weekly sauna and gossip with her mates.

To be fair, they're very different women with completely different roles, so maybe it's not a good comparison!

Angela looks fab there! We're so used to seeing her in the trouser suits when Chancellor. I always thought she had a very serviceable public wardrobe, it's very difficult for women politicians.

It's always a pleasure to see Camilla's bugs and butterflies. I think the frame of her glasses is too dark for her colouring though. A lighter, subtle blue would suit her pale skin and hair better, and work with a lot of her outfits (although she could afford multiple pairs if she fancied, of course).

@eggandonion I always loved how mobile and expressive Merkel's face was.

Remember her presenting Hillary Clinton with a framed copy of the Frankfurter Allgemeine photo of the pair of them in black trousers and bright jackets (from the waist down), asking readers which is which? Still my favourite diplomatic gift!

That's great, very witty!

Even with her evening wear Angela seemed to favour a suit style jacket. I would like to read her biography I think. She grew up in East Germany, worked as a scientist and then became the first female Chancellor. That’s a journey!

I don't think it's as much "ruffle" as maybe a pussy bow loosely tied? Seems to be quite the in thing, though.

A second Leti outfit - I'm not keen, the proprtions seem off, the sleeves in particular.
Sofia looks nice.

Silvia in Canada rocking white trainers with a burgundy (popular colour on this visit!) suit. She seems to have not fully recovered from her bunion surgery in April so is getting a little help from the king. I guess these things take more time as you get older.

She is also wearing a jewelled butterfly brooch but you can’t see it well so here’s a photo from when she wore it in the summer.

Im fascinated by Karoline Leavitt who does all the Trump press conference stuff. She's so swishy and perky and immaculate. I heard a journalist who was at the UK state visit saying she's great fun. No tiara though.

I assume as she doesn't usually wear them that they are reading glasses so she could pick them for a quid a pair.

You're right, the sleeves are too puffy and long. It's a bit '80's (the bad side of '80's, not the good!) :-)

Yes, I agree.
The previous outfit with the leather skirt is a lot better.

I like burgundy but too much of it in one photo makes them all look like Qatar Airways cabin crew!

Sidebeforeself · 21/11/2025 20:32

I notice TR have some amazing evening jumpsuits..I’d said before I think Kate would look fab in a jumpsuit. The RV performance would have been perfect for it…

KiIIingMeDeftly · 21/11/2025 20:38

I don't think she's ever worn a jumpsuit, has she? Sophie has and Meghan has but not Kate.

Maireas · 21/11/2025 20:44

No, I've never seen her in a jumpsuit. I'm thinking she'd only wear them for daytime, if at all.
