I wonder if she had previously worn it privately given that it’s past season.

Choux · 20/11/2025 22:00

Mother / daughter battle of the white jackets - Sylvia wins by default as hers is not double breasted. Not sure about a suit studded with pearls though. Presumably they are not on the back of the skirt as that would be painful. She’s at a science museum but I have no idea what is happening on the table!

Maxima in a… different style of outfit. Amalia looking very stylish. I am pretty sure she is carrying a Habsburg bag too.

Two queens in blue. Camilla’s is practically a uniform now (like Geri Horner’s non stop white) but the scalloped edge adds interest. Mathilde looks elegant.

Interesting to see those pictures of the BGD (big green dress) . Shows I just don’t like it, apart from the colour-it’s not the way she wore it.

CurlewKate · 20/11/2025 22:12

God-is that Giles Brandreth? The poor Queen!

Maireas · 20/11/2025 22:19

I'm not sure about Amalia in scarlet and burgundy, I might just have opted for the latter. Max, well - it's very her! Mathilde and Cams, a little predictable but elegant nonetheless.

Yes. That's quite a test of royal diplomacy.

I didn't know Edward had gone to Nigeria. They are always so busy. I hope they have a quiet couple of days when they are both home.

Going back to the emerald Greville tiara… while it is great to see it, the way Camilla’s hair is, the tiara frame is very visible. When Eugenie wore it she had a lock of hair styled from ear to ear to cover the frame which looks infinitely better.

Maybe with shorter hair you can’t cover the frame and it probably isn’t visible unless you are close to hair by which time perhaps you are so dazzled by the diamonds and emeralds you don’t notice the frame!

Lovely photo of Eugenie.

Maireas · 20/11/2025 22:36

Yeah, met twice when they were teenagers.... knowing Brandreth's gift for hyperbole, he's stretching that to a friendship!
I suppose he's amusing in small doses. I like Camilla's dress in that picture.

Mary of Teck would SO be posting on this thread if she was still with us. And she'd have all the royal jewels out all the time. I understand the reluctance to do the dog on tiaras etc but people (well us really) are entitled to see this stuff - so if they don't wear it please display it somewhere I can go to enjoy it :)

Oh to have the laughing emoji back - said lots of people lots of times - They may be friends but sometimes a quick laugh is worth its weight in gold.

Re Camilla and the tiara - I suspect she doesn't have quite as much hair to cover the fastening as Eugenie did - but it still looks fabulous and she seems to me the sort of person who would baulk at a hair toned plait to cover the fastening.

But good on her for getting the jewellery out of the vaults and using it. I love a good tiara. & a good diamond necklace and and and ..... The vicarious pleasure is mine.

Yes I didn’t think Cams hairstyle suited that tiara. It looked stunning on Eugenie but a bit meh on Camilla I thought.

Off topic, but since I’m here, I also think Eugenie was the happiest royal bride I’ve seen. It’s understandable to be overwhelmed by the occasion ( esp a “ big gun” wedding like C&W) but she was genuinely grinning the whole time.

Aww, they were all happy, surely?!

Oh yes definitely but I just mean it really shone through in her case I thought.

SqueakyDinosaur · 21/11/2025 08:07

I loved Eugenie's dress, and the tiara was perfect with it. It strikes me that it's quite unusual for a bridal tiara to have such dark stones - it's the only one I can think of that wasn't predominantly white diamonds.

Her wanting to show her scoliosis scar, hence low back, struck and strikes me as brave and very personal. A friend's daughter with quite severe scoliosis found it hugely helpful to her. (And IIRC, no veil?)

Choux · 21/11/2025 08:33

Camilla’s insect brooches and earrings close up. Not sure I have seen her in glasses before.

And the closest thing I could find to a tiara currently is Charlene at the Monaco National Day gala. It’s a beautiful dress. Needs bigger bling.

Charlene looks very elegant, it's a simple dress, but it looks good. That's like half a tiara, isn't it? Interesting, though. Her little boy really looks like her.

I’m very late to the party here but love Kate in the green - not LEAST because I have three TR dresses - if you’re hourglass, they fit beautifully (not that she is particularly) and are extremely flattering.

I’ve got one that I’ve worn to just about every christening and wedding where I can get away without too much overlap in guests. Knee length smart day dress. I found them in Harvey Nichols about 14 years ago when I had to find a dress for a white tie thing and couldn’t believe they weren’t more well known - then saw Angela Merkel liked them! They used to do a tweedy/boucle day dress that was perfect for winter client meetings and made me look at least a stone lighter than I am. I look every year to see if they’ve brought the Kovalic back!

Anyway. Kate’s a very good advert for them and those earrings are fabulous.

I loved Eugenie’s wedding - poor Jack. The pressure! And the way Fergie flumped into her seat and blew out her cheeks. All very family wedding.
