Buying the same item in different colours?

I've just bought the same long-sleeved t-shirt from Uniqlo in <cough> 6 different colours. It fits beautifully, is soft, warm and comfortable, and is great for when I want a casual, layered look.

However I've realised that my wardrobe also contains two identical cotton dresses (black / pale pink), two identical silk dresses (tomato red / navy blue), two pairs of Uniqlo jersey barrel legs (olive / black), two pairs of identical chino-style jeans (olive / navy), two identical linen dresses (blue / green), three identical cashmere sweaters (black / navy / beige), etc etc

Do you do this too? I can't decide whether this proves I know what suits me, or is just incredibly dull and unimaginative 😂

Yeah I do this too - if I like the shape I’ll buy multiple colours. In fact I have literally just been to Uniqlo and bought multiples of heat tech tops in different colours 😂

AreYouShittingMe · 04/11/2025 17:52

I’ve started doing this more- I see it as a sign I know what suits me (I may be in denial about me being unimaginative 😆)

UpMyself · 04/11/2025 17:53

I do it too but usually duplicates.

NewsdeskJC · 04/11/2025 17:53

Yes.
I have the uniqlo skipper blouse in every dark colour they do and at least 2 of each. Its literally the only smart top that works with my comedy bust.
Of i find trousers I like I buy2 pairs

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 04/11/2025 17:53

Link to the T-shirts please!

Adventing · 04/11/2025 17:54

I have a couple of things like this, usually no more than 2 duplicates in different colours thought.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 04/11/2025 17:56

I once bought 2 pairs of navy and 2 pairs of sage green trousers from one shop.
I feel a visit to Uniqlo coming on!

FastTurtle · 04/11/2025 17:57

I’ve always done this, I have seven dresses from Next in the same style but different prints. I’ve hunted a couple down on Vinted as they aren’t in Next anymore. I even have exactly the same one in two sizes, same print and everything.

My last purchases were a black and a white pair of the same style of sketchers and a black and a navy pair of identical joggers from Next.

None of my clothes are going to get lonely.

PrincessofWells · 04/11/2025 17:58

8 Uniqlo merino polo necks in different colours. 12 Cos vests - different colours. Long sleeved t shirts M & S x 4. Do I do buy the same clothes in multiple colours? Yes. (I also have 18 pairs of black primark knickers shorts style) 😂

Uniqlo t-shirt

Yes, I know they're the dreaded polyester but they feel really soft and lovely and fit so well. Perfect for autumn / winter layering with jeans etc.

I do this as well!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/11/2025 17:59

I do this.
I'm not dull.
I just know what I like, what feels good & comfortable and especially when clothing has a special purpose I need multiples of the exact same thing coz it's practical.
It saves mental energy that'd I'd waste on figuring out what to wear.
Having different colours of the exact same thing simplifies my life a lot!

FastTurtle · 04/11/2025 18:00

I just realised o do it for my DM too, she’s in a nursing home and has 6 pairs of M&S straight leg joggers in 3 colours and currently 9 of the same M&S jumper but I’ve bought probably 30 or more over the years.

dontlikethings · 04/11/2025 18:03

I buy duplicates too, because I know that if they bring the item back the following year, it's never quite the same. I think some shops are missing a trick, why don't they keep their staples exactly the same cut/fabric etc and bring them back every year?

I also buy duplicates with shoes, because it's the same story: IF they bring the same model back the next year, it's always messed about with/different in some way.

Catonacoldfridgefreezer · 04/11/2025 18:04

Isn’t it a bit like having a uniform? Sounds a bit uninspiring to me.

dontlikethings · 04/11/2025 18:05

Well don't do it then!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 04/11/2025 18:08

I have five Hush Kensington dresses in different patterns!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/11/2025 18:12

I think it's a really sensible thing to do:

DMs in same style, two colours

Seasalt boots in same style, 3 colours

Marks merino jumpers - 3 colours

Marks cardigans - 3 colours

Fitflop trainers - 2 colours

I also make some of my own clothes and have made the same dress pattern 4 times and the same skirt pattern 4 times, in different fabrics/lengths etc.

TheFlis · 04/11/2025 18:12

I have 7 Uniqlo merino crew neck jumpers in different colours as I have yet to find an alternative that fits, wears and washes so well. I also have the same H&M cotton summer dress in 5 patterns for similar reasons.

DramaAlpaca · 04/11/2025 18:29

I do this too.

MaplePumpkin · 04/11/2025 18:40

I’ve done this in the past too!
A couple of years ago New Look had a gorgeous strappy summery midi dress in various designs. I bought it in white, khaki, leopard print, denim effect and a pink one with a flamingo pattern. It was such a nice fit I couldn’t resist snapping it up in five different colours!
At the start of this autumn I decided my autumn 25 staple was going to be oversized, flannel shirts with leggings and a cami (just had a baby so was handy for breast feeding too!). So I bought three- green and black tartan print, red and black tartan print, and orange and white tartan print.

henlake7 · 04/11/2025 18:50

I think it's only unimaginative if you are buying identical things in the same colour.....if it's different colours or patterns then it just shows you know what suits you.

I have a couple of jumpers in multiple colours, also wide legged jeans and a couple of dresses in several patterns.
I also have 7 pairs of Converse high tops, they are all different colours and I mtch them to outfits.

It's a very smart move.
