Buying the same item in different colours?

I've just bought the same long-sleeved t-shirt from Uniqlo in <cough> 6 different colours. It fits beautifully, is soft, warm and comfortable, and is great for when I want a casual, layered look.

However I've realised that my wardrobe also contains two identical cotton dresses (black / pale pink), two identical silk dresses (tomato red / navy blue), two pairs of Uniqlo jersey barrel legs (olive / black), two pairs of identical chino-style jeans (olive / navy), two identical linen dresses (blue / green), three identical cashmere sweaters (black / navy / beige), etc etc

Do you do this too? I can't decide whether this proves I know what suits me, or is just incredibly dull and unimaginative 😂

I buy them in the same colours.

I do this with black T-shirts- if I find a good one (harder and harder to do) I get several.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 04/11/2025 19:42

It's the Uniqlo curse. They make it so easy, all those beautifully folded stacks of colour.

UpMyself · 04/11/2025 19:47

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie , same here. Black, navy or charcoal. I'm quite fussy so if it's right, I stock up. Fit, cut, thickness, drape. length, neckline.
I like Uniqlo ones.

Edited

I need to go and have a trying on session in Uniqlo. I'm busty though and I think most of their stuff is made for flat chests! My favourite t-shirts are from Cos - I have three black v necked ones and three thick boxy ones.

Lobleylimlam · 04/11/2025 20:05

I was going to suggest the set from next 🤣 i do it a lot if i find sonething i like i will buy multiple. Esepcially comfy clothes like leggings, fleeces etc. Great for winter as well.

bubzie · 04/11/2025 20:09

I have two Hush dresses the same but in different colours. Also repeat a trainer that I buy - am now on 4th pair. Only keep two at a time. I have 3 sweaters the same different colours. Had 3 bikinis the same different colours.

Comefromaway · 04/11/2025 20:10

Yes, Uniqglo cotton t shirts, Benetton cardigans & Ralph Lauren jumpers. Multiple in different colours. It used to be M&S trousers too until they changed the fit.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 04/11/2025 20:17

Unless I like the other colours I just buy the same colour. I don't care. I'm quite short so it's difficult to find anything that fits me so I'll buy lots of anything that does.

fouroclockrock · 04/11/2025 20:49

I'm another person who buys most of my tops from Uniqlo... generally all the same style and colour palette. I also buy most of my trousers in M&S and some from Next. I recently found some that fit and drape really well, barely need ironing and feel comfortable... so I bought 4 in 1 colour and another in a lighter colour!

Screwyoucolin · 04/11/2025 20:52

Yep just had a Uniqlo delivery of some new winter jumpers. 4 of the same jumpers in different colours. Same with Cos long sleeve tops - plain and striped, also Beyond nine trousers. I know what I like and feel comfy in so thats that!

mdinbc · 04/11/2025 21:00

I do this with t-shirts, but not usually much else. I should re-think this though. I just bought a pair of jeans (Canadian company) I really like, and know they will not make them again the same.

My DH buys shoes two at a time, same colour, and tucks one under the bedfor when the first pair wears out.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 04/11/2025 21:00

Done this for years, as when you find a clothing basic 'gem' you need to grab it, as even if repeated it is often of poorer cloth, or cut slightly differently.

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 04/11/2025 21:44

Yep. I've currently got a pair of dark blue trousers and a pair of dark green ones.
Most of my wardrobe is like this

Thisismyalterego · 04/11/2025 22:00

Jumpers and trousers. During the autumn and winter, I tend to wear a jumper and trousers for work (in a school), and currently have ten pairs of identical trousers. I have 13 jumpers in the same style but different colours. Saves ages deciding what to wear each day!

k1233 · 04/11/2025 22:02

I do this, but possibly even to a greater extent. I've got some beautiful dresses in a very flattering style, so have 8 in different colours. My variation comes in where I buy identicals. I've got about 6-8 identical coloured long sleeve shirts I used for horse riding (blue) plus i think 5 in the same style in black. I've also got 5 identical green short sleeved Ts. Meant I never had to think about what I was wearing. I've also got identical dresses if I really like them.

I do it with shoes too. Find some i really like so buy multiple pairs some in different colours but also some identical eg my patent red flats. Not a common shoe to find, so I stocked up when I found them. I've got some shoes that I've gone through all the backups I'd bought and had to find an alternative, which was a struggle.

Whatwouldnanado · 04/11/2025 22:02

So you have found your style and what fits and suits you best. I have been doing this for years. Combined with having colours done and knowing what suits me it saves time and money. Gabor shoes and boots fit me best so I have the same styles in black brown and navy. Uniqlo and Bennetton knitwear, M&S jeans, Boden jersey dresses, Next shorts and T shirts…. It just makes sense. Accessories stop it from being boring.

I have five Hush Kensington dresses in different patterns!

one more than me! I love them for work in the summer

reversingdumptruckwithnotyreson · 04/11/2025 22:26

As long as H&M keeps putting out their £18.99 oversized jumper I’ll just keep buying it. It’s affordable, practical, comfortable and ideal length whether you want leggings or jeans.

My only complaint is that they don’t release it in many different colours.

fivebyfivefaith · 04/11/2025 22:29

I did this with a maxi dress from Dorothy Perkins
tried it on and being 5ft 10 was shocked that it was long enough, fit my boobs in, didn’t show my bra and looked ok

fivebyfivefaith · 04/11/2025 22:33

This one, I am hoping they bring it back at some point. I bought all the patterns!

I have almost the exact same dress (except the navy and white stripes are the same size) from Next. I'm a little taller than you and it's almost floor length. So keep an eye out there next summer too!

ohbygolly · 04/11/2025 23:02

Over the years I've collated a collection of Phase Eight Cristine jumpers in a variety of colours and patterns. For me it is the holy grail of jumpers - not a chunky knit but still substantial in weight, slash neck and very forgiving batwing sleeves that are 3/4 length. Love them all equally!

RollyPollyBatFace · 04/11/2025 23:20

Yep. The very thin ribbed heat generating tops from John Lewis. I have them in sapphire, spiced apple, chocolate, forest green, plum etc etc. So easy to wear with jeans or joggers

CarpeVitam · 04/11/2025 23:29

I do the same with the White Stuff ‘Lucy’ Dress 😁

MidnightMeltdown · 04/11/2025 23:32

I wouldn’t do it with 6 different colours because I know that I would only end up wearing the 2 or 3 colours that suited me most. However I’ve definitely bought duplicates before. Sometimes of the same item, in the same colour, because I love it so much, and fear that one will wear out or get stains!

However, I do usually end up regretting buying duplicates as I still tire of things when I find the next ‘perfect’ item.
