@Doglover73 I've been sorting out clothes to put on. I have loads that really need to go and some good stuff. I've sold the odd bit of clothing before but it makes me nervous. Much more scope for someone not being happy due to lighting not capturing colours, size disagreements etc.. unused beauty items are much less faff and quick to list.

Yes I haven't listed clothing as measuring, etc and deciding on condition is a chore. I have nothing amazing to sell that would be worth it tbh 🤣
It does take time and effort. I enjoy the beauty bit but know I'd find the clothing a hassle.
My daughters just opened an account selling but the offers people make are unbelievable 🤣 but worth a chance i suppose x

The Dior calendar is beautiful,

saw lots of M&S calendars in stock too.

@Addictedtobeauty no I haven't ordered from there before but I've been watching their annual AC the previous 2 years and bookmarked the website as a 'try when brave enough'. So a complete gamble but Austrians are a decent lot in my experience so I'm hoping it's not some sort of scam. But I'm happy to risk £60 odd in case it turns out to be OK. The supposed value is about right pay around 1/3rd of supposed RRP) and looking at a beauty edit they have on there it looks like a safe choice of items they might be offering. Also I am intrigued by a lot of the skincare on there which I never tried/heard of. If my experience proves positive then I would order actual products in the future.
I don't know if there will be any import tax to pay - I never understood the rule.

I was very pleased with BBC for a very long time and their mystery AC last was great with the face device. I overlooked minor issues on the basis that, overall, it was all great value and some fantastic products. But then the expired /short expiry dates issues started. and all the lies reported on here. plus my own experience when they lied to me directly. So I stopped all orders from BCC and I'm not going back. With some regrets, because I was lucky for a long time and loved the mystery element.

Branster · 11/10/2025 17:04

@Caramelandsalt all the bags will go in my lucky dip DIY box and I'll randomly choose one item every day. I'll open everything else on Christmas day. I'll be mixing it with the products from the edits I ordered in the sale at the beginning of the year. I know I liked those when I ordered them but can't remember all the details, apart from some were Eve Lom serum and oil and I think the vast majority were full size items. I know I already paid for those and it was a good bit of money but they were on sale and it feels like they are free by now, so many months later. I hope nothing has expired!

Oooo that is beautiful 😍 I saw it in hbeauty last week and then again in harvey nicks on Wednesday. Did you see the music box? That's beautiful too.

Branster · 11/10/2025 17:05

@BlueLimes that looks gorgeous!!!

JoRaRaRa · 11/10/2025 17:18

So talking about vinted purchases going wrong, I bought a PDM oriana from someone on vinted claiming to have only sprayed it a few times on her wedding day. It's just arrived and there's less than half a bottle left 😡 so now I have to pay to return it.

@Branster, that's a fab idea, I love a lucky dip .

@JoRaRaRawhat the hell!! I am raging for you . You should’nt have to pay though … do it through Vinted “ item significantly not as described “
I did this recently and just returned via in post for free so hopefully you can do that . What a cheek of her

I did it through vinted and sent those photos but the postage is coming off the refund amount 😔 very annoying.

This is outrageous, and is what puts me off using Vinted at all. I would suggest you decant the lot and swap it with water before sending back. Give the seller a taste of their own medicine.

Oh that's rubbish. Surely she realised you'd notice when it arrived.

Haha!! I would love to do that but I've quickly rewrapped it to send back. I really hope she doesn't start causing problems and the refund can just easily go through 🤞

She probably thought I wouldn't check 🤔😡

HollyGolightly4 · 11/10/2025 18:21

Was in m+s today, I bought a couple of jumpers so was over the limit. If the advent calendar had been £30-£40 I'd 100% have bought it. It just didn't feel like £60 worth of value!

The staff didn't bother to upsell me which I thought was a very missed opportunity.

Branster · 11/10/2025 18:24

@JoRaRaRa that's shocking. Blatant lie. Unless she had about 50 or more wedding days?
Definitely a case of leaving a bad review if you can.

That's shocking! I bought a Neom Magnesium body butter earlier this year from an eBay seller who said she'd used it once. Held it up to the light and there was only about a quarter of it left. She had 100% feedback, but I really wasn't happy so got a refund and was able to keep it.

I'm also nervous about selling on Vinted, but have lots of One Hundred Stars stuff to sell. I've been putting off for weeks. I think I might list the ones with tags and also link to the original items to be sure of transparency regarding colour etc. I've largely had great experiences on Vinted as a buyer, apart from a couple of folk that haven't wrapped candles in glass vessels properly and a Perfumer H fragrance that was smashed into a thousand pieces recently. Disappointing, but in that way, the Vinted process of refunding works well.

BlueLimes · 11/10/2025 18:37

@JoRaRaRa thats horrid of the seller.

I didn’t see the music box but it does sound like something I’d like to see.

Growlybear83 · 11/10/2025 18:42

I’ve been selling things, mostly clothes, on Vinted for about 18 months and I’ve been lucky not to have had a problem so far. I’ve had a handful of things that I’ve bought where they’ve been broken in transit, sometimes despite being packed really well, but a couple of times I’ve had sellers just put China items in a padded envelope and then express surprise when they arrive smashed. I do find Vinted customer services is among the worst I’ve ever come across and it’s difficult to get to communicate with a human.

i think your experience @JoRaRaRa sounds awful. It’s so unreasonable that they make you pay the return postage. The seller has the option of paying it, which they should do when something is misdescribed like this and even more so when it violates their listing policies. You’re not allowed to sell any cosmetics that have been even opened, let alone tried. When I got my Harrods fragrance calendar I already had a small size of the Jo Malone perfume, and it’s not one of my favourites, so decided to sell it. It only came in the little velvety bag and I took it out and sat it next to the bag to take a picture. I made it clear in the description that it hadnt been tested. Vinted took my listing down within a few minutes and threatened to suspend my account if I uploaded it again !

I have treated myself to the John Lewis BAC this year.
I have only ever had one BAC before and that was Clarins.
I got a bit carried away with the John Lewis one as it was market as over £1000 worth of products for £235.
I cannot wait for December to start opening it, hope I am not disappointed!

Hi apologies I’m new to the thread so sorry if this has been asked and answered millions of times before.
Is it acceptable to give advent calendars as Christmas presents? Or does that completely defeat the object?

I gave my oldest friend the Holland and Barrett one two years ago and she loved it.

No object to defeat. Some open one at a time, some all in one go, some save. I've done a mix of all combinations.

redluckycat · 11/10/2025 19:20

My Liberty beauty advent calendar also arrived this week - it’s beautiful! I had a quick look as I wanted to make sure that there was something in every drawer. Even my young DC were impressed when they spotted it as they know Liberty from the film Cruella, and we had a look around when we visited London earlier this year (haberdashery focused).

I used to love buying beauty products years ago, but since having my DC I’ve just repurchased my old favourites, and haven’t kept up to date with new products and brands. So I’m excited to try lots of new products (although I bought the La Mer lip balm 20+ years ago when it was probably half the price, and have used the Dermalogica DM before too as that’s been around for a long time).

This may not be helpful to you, but hopefully will for others. I've given Advent calendars to my DD and my Mum for years as they have very late November / very early December birthdays. It's a tradition now and a really easy present to tick off the list. Tbh, even if I had a family birthday in Jan or Feb, I'd still think of it as a good gift

(I'd actually love it if someone did it for me, even though my birthday is in May!)

Blimey I would love it if someone gave me a BAC for Christmas or my birthday in January. What a lovely gift.
