If your style is a bit Toast, a bit Scandi architect, a bit cliché Parisien and a teeeeny bit Claudia in the castle, what transitional/autumn jacket do you find most useful??

I have very light shacket that gets a lot of wear but I'm sat here in it bloody freezing!! I have a long cashmere/wool blend wrap coat, and Didriksons for walking etc, but I'm after something casual, I think a fairly boxy and maybe collarless shape, that will keep me warm and work with cords, jeans, barrel legs etc and maybe the odd skirt. I like neutrals and muted darkish soft colours, and would prefer to buy second-hand if poss.

Do you have a jacket that you're glad to get out at this time every year, and if so what the heck is it?!

I find this very useful but not sure it’s as warm as you want

mynameiscalypso · 27/09/2025 15:57

I mainly wear an All Saints leather jacket at this time of year.

ChristmasLightsLover · 27/09/2025 15:57

@minipieI tried this on today! I like it in green. But I don’t think it’s 188 spend for me.

Yes there are def cheaper versions around!

I like this one mango teen range

Hmmm I think you're all a lot less nesh than me 🤣

I have a leather All Saints biker that I hardly ever wear because I don't like wearing leather in summer and by the time it's to autumn I'm too bloody cold in it...

Quite like the idea of velvet, might have a look for a cropped (maybe padded) version!

The Uniqlo parka would get a lot of wear form me but probably in late spring.

Many thanks for all ideas, keep them coming...

I like the Mango one but am trying to but less light grey...

Love the colour of the Free People one! Expensive though (and I've been put off them by the Redirectory's Insta recently)

Just found this which wouldn’t suit me but I think it’s a great style so popping it here in case it works for anyone. Wool so should be warm

A short wool peacoat/ pea jacket maybe !?

Blarn · 27/09/2025 16:29

I'm really liking the number of barn jackets about at the moment.

Cantonet · 27/09/2025 16:35

I like these jackets from Tk Maxx in pure wool. They're lightweight & warm.
I have the khaki & it's a good shape to wear with wide or barrel jeans & midis.

I have this tweed jacket from Jack Murphy for autumn, don’t know if something this style would work? I wear it with jeans, cords, work trousers. I believe the style is called a field jacket (I picked mine up in a charity shop for the bargain price of £8, so not 100% sure).

I wear velvet or baby cord at this time of year. Lined, not padded but the outer is decent weight so warm enough. Mine are all ancient so I can recommend a current version, maybe vinted and filter on material?

I saw someone in a lovely padded velvet bomber the other day. I'm keeping an eye out for that.

I have this jacket from Roake in the blue, and it is so useful - goes with everything. Got my eye on the blackberry colour next..

Roake Studio

Came here to say to say exactly this except my current jacket is the mustard colour they did a while back. I love it. It does for the dog walk, a chilly evening, or the office. Washes like a rag. The blackberry colour is gorgeous and I REALLY want one!

I almost bought this today, but talked myself out of it as I’m trying to save money . . . I really want it, though! It comes in grey, cream and black.

So tempted! It’s literally just opened for pre-orders in that colour. I might downsize this time as they come up v big. It’s pricey, but handmade after all, and so, so wearable..

I got the email too! I really can’t at the moment though, perhaps I’ll ask if I can go halves for my Christmas present. Also stalking Vinted for the warm pink they used to do (Loganberry). Totally agree with you about the cost, ethical values, supporting small businesses etc. exactly the sort of place i want to spend my money.
