I need a dressing gown that doesn't look like a dressing gown

I am WFH atm and like to get up, put on dressing gown, have coffee, get down to work at my PC. And two hours later I might still be working, but am still in my dressing gown and it doesn't feel right.

Can the hive mind find me a sort of "in between" dressing gown? Preferably black, but not too fussed about colour. Plus I am always on the hunt for different dressing gown styles, so even if it doesn't fit this bill I'm open to suggestions!

@LoveBeingAMum555 not cold be enough fire me yet but I sleep in Pepco leggings from the pound shop.
They are a lovely weight and wash and last well.
TBH they are black so may not be to your taste for nightwear.

Thanks, I am seriously thinking about just buying some plain black lightweight thermal leggings and tops, may not look pretty but they would be comfy and could interchange as thermal wear if I needed it.

Just get dressed FFS. It takes 30 secs to pull on a hoodie and joggers

Get dressed and stay professional

I’ve got a maxi cardigan that I wear. It’s cosy but smart enough that I look dressed if answering the door!

These (won't let me link but the pic is Jack Wills, comes in different colours)

I wore them a lot in the baby phase when I really just wanted to live eternally in pjs

@SteakBakesAndHotTakes , no pic?

To the "Just get dressed" brigade - do you go on to threads about dogs and tell them to get a cat? Do you go on to threads about cooking mushrooms and say "Just cook kale instead"?

I mean, what actually is the point? 🙄 What drew you to a thread about corporate dressing gowns 😆, that in no way impacts your life, or the life of anyone you know, or indeed the life of anyone except me, to tell me to change my daily routine?

You do you, and let me be me. How about that?!

To everyone else - thanks for the ongoing suggestions. To me, a housecoat or a zipped up dress thing are essential dressing gowns. I am definitely going to invest in one of the woolen coatigans/belted long cardigans that have been posted. Thanks! 👏

If I could close comments now I would, before I get told usefully to "Just get dressed" again, or am told I'm lazy, or am again accused of going to the supermarket in my PJs 🙄

So, this is me signing out of the thread, and many thanks for all the suggestions, especially the crocodile hoodie 😂

Sorry to hijack the thread OP but I have an issue with pyjamas. I love cuffed or even better leggings pyjamas, if I wear any other type the legs ride up when am asleep. I must have some sort of weird body shape or move excessively in my sleep because pj's at the moment all seem to have wide legs.

Any recommendations for where I can get this sort of nightwear from? Don't want to pay a fortune either really.

Edited

I wear full length joggers (not the leggings) from Llama Leisure as pyjama bottoms. Ridiculously comfortable, cuffed at the ankles and they don't ride up in bed ever. They're a bit warm in the summer so I switch to shorts then.

What about a kimono or a kimono type top?

If you have time to put your dressing gown on first thing why don’t you just put on some clothes? I’d hate to be at my desk in a dressing gown!!

dressing gowns have super powers, i can achieve so much more if i have my dressing gown on.

Get dressed and stay professional

Why? She wants to be comfortable presentable as do many wfh.

She's not front facing, working in hospitality.

How about a block printed kaftan? They sell beautiful kaftans in the Devizes covered market. I’ve also seen similar items in the Barbican shop.

Sit in mine all the time over my clothes when wfh do I don't need the heating on..it's the most comfy warm thing to wear.

NewEnglandWeekend · 28/09/2025 08:04

I don’t wear a dressing gown anymore because they made me feel slovenly 😂 instead I wear an M&S hooded long lounge fleece with a zipped front. It feels acceptable to still be wearing it at lunchtime, unlike a dressing gown.

JHip · 29/09/2025 18:57

I wear what is supposed to be a dress as a dressing gown maxi and thick soft material like a Kaftan

UpMyself · 29/09/2025 19:11

@SteakBakesAndHotTakes , thanks. it looks nice.
