I need a dressing gown that doesn't look like a dressing gown

I am WFH atm and like to get up, put on dressing gown, have coffee, get down to work at my PC. And two hours later I might still be working, but am still in my dressing gown and it doesn't feel right.

Can the hive mind find me a sort of "in between" dressing gown? Preferably black, but not too fussed about colour. Plus I am always on the hunt for different dressing gown styles, so even if it doesn't fit this bill I'm open to suggestions!

Surely, the best solution is to change your routine so you shower and get dressed before you sit down at the computer? You'll feel more alert and ready to work and won't have the dressing gown problem.

I don't shower in the morning, I have a bath in the evening. But thanks for the totally unasked-for advice!

My pleasure! It's completely free of charge.

Zip-up dressing gown. Far warmer, no stupid gaps for the cold to get in, no belt to get tied in knots. I had one I really liked from Dunnes Stores (Ireland) but they seem to have stopped doing them, annoyingly.

Amazon.ie any good? (but obv. coming from UK supplier) Zipped, lovely colours and look very cosy.

I have a couple of zip up fleece jackets or zip up hoodies for this purpose. My pyjamas tend to be leggings style and cuffed at the ankles. It means I can get up, put a hoodie or fleece over the top of my pyjama t shirt and be warm.

I wouldn't go to the shops in this ensemble but for answering the door, putting out the bins etc they're fine.

Sorry to hijack the thread OP but I have an issue with pyjamas. I love cuffed or even better leggings pyjamas, if I wear any other type the legs ride up when am asleep. I must have some sort of weird body shape or move excessively in my sleep because pj's at the moment all seem to have wide legs.

Any recommendations for where I can get this sort of nightwear from? Don't want to pay a fortune either really.

UpMyself · 26/09/2025 21:03

@LoveBeingAMum555 , tuck them into your bed socks.

Personally I enjoy one of these (my phone will not link for the life of it 😒) but £25 from matalan, zip through 'dressing gown' with pockets, comfy, warm, just looks like a longline fleece 😍

These (won't let me link but the pic is Jack Wills, comes in different colours)

I wore them a lot in the baby phase when I really just wanted to live eternally in pjs

limetrees32 · 26/09/2025 22:00

@LoveBeingAMum555 not cold be enough fire me yet but I sleep in Pepco leggings from the pound shop.
They are a lovely weight and wash and last well.
TBH they are black so may not be to your taste for nightwear.

Learob1983 · 26/09/2025 22:02

Just get dressed

Aluna · 26/09/2025 22:08

I work from home and went mad and bought an Oodie. 😙 Hear me out - I wear it as a dress with black tights and black ballet flat slippers.

It’s dressed enough to answer the door to couriers but as comfy as a dressing gown.

Ma33 · 26/09/2025 22:14

One Hundred Stars, not the cheapest but beautiful

JillMW · 26/09/2025 22:41

Jumper dress in the winter and silk shirt dress in the summer

scrivette · 26/09/2025 22:56

The Woolovers one mentioned a few times is great, it’s thin but so warm and cosy and you won’t want to take it off! It doesn’t look like a dressing gown, more like a long cardigan.

Jakkijaxxy · 26/09/2025 22:58

Kaftans?

CrayonCritic5 · 26/09/2025 23:18

For anyone questioning the OP (rather unnecessarily), the item in question is essentially a housecoat. A garment that has existed for centuries.

Baggyit · 27/09/2025 00:09

Full length zip up dressing gowns give very comfortable options.

Edited

I wear shorts for that reason. This morning my long pyjamas were twisted up to my knees.
