Hi I've just bought this skirt from M&S but not sure what to wear it with. The model is wearing it with black which I would rather avoid. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am 5'8, size 10/12 and apple shaped so would prefer not to tuck anything into the waistband.

Soft pink or silver in a silky shimmery fabric for evening.

Pinkfreedom · 11/09/2025 02:34

I'm seeing the skirt as a shiny dark teal colour in which case a twinset style short sleeve jumper in a soft grey or pale camel colour. Or a shorter length t-shirt. Would a pale blue work? Chocolate brown would also look nice.

defrazzled · 11/09/2025 07:41

I LOVE IT! I think the colour is fantastic for autumn/winter. I'd wear it with emerald or deep purple. A camisole or a gauzy jumper.

Grey or a burnt orange

Good suggestions especially burnt orange

evilharpy · 11/09/2025 08:42

Lovely skirt. I would wear with a white tee and docs and throw a black biker over the top. Or a fluffy jumper of some sort.

chattychatchatty · 11/09/2025 10:24

Something really simple to let the skirt shine ( I love it too). I’d probably take it out shopping and try things on with it in store; you really need to match to the fabric as well as the colour. Something too shiny could clash and something too natural will look unbalanced: I’d try Zara for a lightweight jumper that drapes to the point that flatters you best.

Mary28 · 11/09/2025 11:01

I'm really confused by the first comments too. It's one of my favourite colours and it's almost sold out already. I think it's a stunning skirt.
My only concern about pleated skirts is how to store them. I have one from M&S and the pleats have flattened on it. Just for longevity.

As it's a volumuous skirt personally I would wear it with a quite fitted or slim top, something that does not go too far down past the waistline on it in order to give it shape. A satin cami with lace tucked into it and a cropped cardigan for night time, a cashmere or mohair jumper for day time would be lovely. Black or navy obviously goes with it. Ivory, brown, camel and grey/charcoal would all go well with it, some pinks too.

Gottogetoutofthisplace · 11/09/2025 11:16

Am is seing the same link as everyone else? I think it’s a gorgeous colour, I’d describe it a petrol blue. I’m cool toned, so would pair it with a lovely soft charcoal grey cowl neck jumper or something. If you like warmer colours, maybe a plum or caramel jumper? The skirt is dark enough to work as a ‘neutral’.
For evening, I’d go for a silver satin cami vest

Coffeeisnecessary · 11/09/2025 13:26

I also think it's a gorgeous colour, I don't understand the negative comments! I would wear it with cream or white personally. But I'm loving a lot of the more colourful suggestions which is making me think I need to be more adventurous!

seventyfivepercent · 11/09/2025 16:09

The first three posts disliking the skirt are by the same person, everyone else likes the colour. I think a slouchy soft black knit would go well.

forgivingfiggy · 11/09/2025 17:43

A vibrant turmeric or mustard boxy jumper.

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/09/2025 18:31

If you don’t like black, I’d go grey or cream/ivory. Fitted jumper, knee high boots.

I’d go with a soft charcoal wool jumper

i agree, or lighter grey like this photo

I have a very similar skirt from many moons ago that comes out every year - I team it with one of my DH old blazers and a skinny belt. Or a fitted denim shirt. Or a white or black tshirt/ or a shirt to dress it up.

I’ve also got a slouchy light grey cashmere jumper (one of my DH ones - there is a theme!) that looks so nice too.

I love the idea of burnt orange or pink. I’m not very adventurous with colour but OP, get it home and try it on with all your tops and see where you end up - you might have the right shape / wrong colour but will give you an idea of where to go from there.

Happy swooshing in your skirt!!

Oooooo yes! Plum would be gorgeous!

MelliC · 11/09/2025 22:02

I saw this on insta. I think it's same skirt. Cute with a short sleeved cream knitted top

shellonthebeach · 11/09/2025 22:35

I saw this in store this week on a mannequin. It was teamed with a short sleeve fluffy knitted tee style top in winter white and looked fab and not tucked in!

FairyBatman · 11/09/2025 22:56

Cream or pale blush pink on fluffy textural jumper, maybe cropped if you’d consider that. Black pointed flats.

Grey or a burnt orange

Agreed!
I love it and prob would wear it with a soft grey or black.

Its a beautiful colour.

As for garish, Christmas is impending...! And tgen you could wear with sparkly sandals?

allmycats · 12/09/2025 09:19

Short and slim fitting fine wool cardigan fully buttoned up. Lots of colours would work. Enjoy your skirt

PosiePetal · 12/09/2025 09:32

Interesting. I have a Boden skirt in a similar style and colour with gold polka dots on it. I love it but find it so hard to know what to wear with it!

I normally opt for a black T-shirt. I have lain awake at night thinking through my wardrobe to try to figure out what goes with it! I seem to recall in the advert for it the model was wearing a white blouse.

They are calling the colour 'Marine' but I call that a dark Royal Blue.

I think anything neural because the skirt is the main event. Beige, cream, white, brown, black, grey.

Absolutely lovely skirt.

Montereyjaaack · 12/09/2025 10:06

It’s gorgeous! I’m envious (I don’t get time or energy to care about clothes much) - too middle heavy to wear it myself but to be that would work with so many of the helpful suggestions by pp above. It’s a striking skirt for good reasons.

I’d go with a soft charcoal wool jumper

Yes, I agree with this.
It would look lovely and possibly maybe a belt on top now and again.

Petitchat · 12/09/2025 10:54

I might just add, I wish I was a size 10/12
😊
