It's just not possible to look slim and elegant with big boobs is it

I saw an article about Kelly Brook, she has a new business venture so is posting a lot on social including a post today of her cycling in a bikini! I think she's facially really beautiful and although she's put on some weight since her lads mag days I wouldnt call her especially large. But because she has big boobs that's all you see and it gives the impression she's bigger than she is.

It's so depressing as a fellow big-boobed person. I am overweight and nowhere near as pretty but I feel even if/when I lose weight I'll never really look slim or stylish.

Is there any way round this? Minimiser bras are awful and normal ones are hideously uncomfortable. I'm tired of either looking tarty or matronly.

Yes it is, but the rest of you has to be very slim.

I only have one big boob now. That is quite a challenge, stylistically 😁

TheGreatWesternShrew · 06/09/2025 02:24

Sophia Veragara always manages to!

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 06/09/2025 02:52

I’m thin and curvy and I feel classy and sexy.

I’m curious if this is a cultural thing.

waltercrimble · 06/09/2025 06:53

I agree. I am a 10/12 but a 34gg bust. I always look top heavy and bigger in photos than I actually am. It’s depressing. I can wear a size small in a top but still look big. I can stand next to my cousin who is the same size and height as me but she’s a C cup and looks so much smaller in photos than I do.

curious79 · 06/09/2025 06:57

Agree - you always look matronly.

i had a mastectomy (preventative) and with it went from 34H to 34D. Follow up appointment with the surgeon and nurse, she asked ‘wow have you lost weight’. I hadn’t at all! Just the 9lbs from my chest which then meant everything hung better.

btw I would recommend my breast surgeon in a flash - I have no scarring (just goes around the top half of nipple only). You cannot see I’ve had a mastectomy!

User37482 · 06/09/2025 06:59

I think you should embrace the boob. I’m a pear shape with a massive arse, I always look better if I wear stuff that emphasises my waist. I think you can look absolutely lovely with big boobs, no you aren’t necessarily going to look like a willowy waif but thats ok. I’m short and I always look enviously at tall willowy women.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/09/2025 07:06

I don't really find this, I'm size 8, 32E.

SoftLass · 06/09/2025 07:13

I agree completely, it's either swamped or boobs on a stick. I'm 5'10" with 34GG boobs and tiny waist. Anything fitted just emphasises the boobs. Wrap dresses or tops don't work at all for massive boobs they just scream cleavage at everyone.
I find boat necks are actually the most flattering for me.
I've recently lost a ton of weight (never off the boobs!!) and am planning a reduction once I've kept it off a year. I'm post-menopausal and just had enough of them now. @curious79 if you want to share your surgeons details, please do!

Titasaducksarse · 06/09/2025 07:18

I agree. I've lost weight and feel good. However I think I look at least 2 sizes bigger due to having big boobs. I have lost some weight off the boobs....well...the back size. So I've fine from a big 36 to small 34 but the front projection isn't going!!

I've wanted a reduction for years and am seriously considering it within next 2 years. I think it will absolutely balance me out.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/09/2025 07:23

When I lost weight it came off my boobs, but unfortunately made them sag to near waist level. So I'd also like tips on looking good in clothes when your bra is of the 'heavy duty scaffolding' type with straps so thick that they show under any top that doesn't reach the throat.

seanconneryseyebrow · 06/09/2025 07:43

Hard agree. No other body shape can look 3 sizes bigger or smaller depending on what you wear.

I feel I literally have to have something tight on my waist otherwise I look massive. The difference in me in a big oversized tracksuit compared to fitted is like a different person. I get the choosing men oogling or being matronly which is annoying. I’d still rather the former but in 51 now so maybe that will start to change. Weirdly I still have reasonably perky tits for my age/size (32gg). But I know they are going to catapult to the ground. Any day now and that’ll be that. I’ll probably just live in my dungarees then

Goodideaornot · 06/09/2025 07:59

I had a colleague with large breasts who wore a lot of fitted shirts and looked really smart. Is that an option or am I being really naive. More casual fitted shirts at weekends

ZZGirl · 06/09/2025 08:02

MissKittyFantastico84 · 05/09/2025 14:00

The options are:

a) hide boobs and look two to three dress sizes bigger

b) dress to fit boobs and become a pair of tits on legs, attracting attention you don’t want

I’ve seriously considered a reduction but I don’t think I REALLY want one. I certainly don’t want the scars and nipple repositioning!

So I guess it’s secret boobs, look like matron for me!

I've had a reduction, my scars faded beautifully and it changed my life!

The problem with fitted shirts is that they don't have enough room for the boobs. Most clothes are cut for a cup size C. So you need to size up to prevent gaping. Bravissimo used to have a clothing range (pepperberry) that sold shirts cut for big boobs but that's gone now.
im not aware of any other clothing ranges for big boobs, but would love to hear if there are!

Beanscene · 06/09/2025 08:30

I've seen women with larger boob's look elegant in fitted v neck tops and dresses.
I've always been thin and not blessed in the boob department....I've never felt sexy or desired and never had men approach Me or shown any interest in my body. Not that it bothers me and I definitely don't want the unwanted attention but having smaller boob's definitely isn't all it's cracked up to be.

florizel13 · 06/09/2025 08:43

I'm slim but have disproportionately big boobs (also not the firmest after 4 kids!) I often think they do make me look more "matronly" than I should and it's hard buying clothes as if they fit my top half they're too big around my waist and hips. I do find a well fitting bra does help, and I like Bravissimo as they do a 30G size bra. I sometimes wish I'd had a breast reduction or uplift in the past but can't be bothered now. Second the advice about always wearing V necks!

PacificState · 06/09/2025 08:46

I do wish Pepperberry hadn’t closed. A lot of their stuff was awful, but it had some gems.

I do resent that the fashion industry still bases itself around some ‘ideal’ female shape that is basically a teenaged boy! I think that’s what makes us feel non-elegant - images of ‘elegance’ are based around a body shape that we simply cannot attain.

This years-long fashion for boxy high necks really doesn’t help either.

cheesycheesy · 06/09/2025 08:50

I find wrap dresses work quite well. I have a slim
waist and it balances things out so I don’t look matronly. I think often weight loss and exercise helps.

For anyone considering a reduction, there is a thread on AMA Breast reduction AMA where we shared experiences.

I think we are on the third thread now. I started the original thread after my reduction 3 years ago.

We’ve all had breast reductions - happy to help | Mumsnet

Setting up as thread 2 is now full here [[https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/AMA/4876452-weve-had-breast-reductions-ask-us-anything?reply=134967968 https:...

I know what you mean, but we always want what we don't have. While we are envying gamine women wearing slim-fitting clean-lines and slim-fit crisp shirts, they are probably all wishing they had curves and a cleavage.

The outfits I admire most are absolutely never the ones that would actually suit my figure. I don't like the rich, voluptuous, sexy, curvy look. I like the minimalist, slightly androgynously chic neutrals look!

Mischance · 06/09/2025 08:59

Why do you want to look slim and elegant? Why do you not simply want to look like you?

hopsalong · 06/09/2025 09:00

No. I have smallish boobs (32 C/D). I used to wear a lot of padded and underwired bras but realized that they made me look much fatter than I am, and messy in office wear.

It's very hard to find shirts that fit in the body without being too tight and gaping at the buttons over the boobs. Usually a shirt that fits at the boobs then hangs baggily from them like a tent, making you look like you're just as big all the way down! The fitted ones are rarely fitted right.

CeciliaDuckiePond · 06/09/2025 09:01

I'm an F cup and agree with you. It doesn't matter how much weight I lose, my boobs are always disproportionately large, and now I'm in my 50s they are really floppy and pendulous too. I have considered a breast reduction - saying to surgeon - get me as near to flat-chested as you can - but I'm trying to save for retirement thanks to my pension not being very robust, so although I could afford it 'on paper' I can't really afford it longer term.

iseethembloom · 06/09/2025 09:01

I’m ‘only’ 34DD and wish my boobs were smaller. They make the top half of my body look stocky.
