What jeans are we wearing?

Just that, really!

I have broken the skinny jean habit that I’ve had for years, and have been wearing White Stuff Freya jeans, but think I need something slightly wider at the bottom to wear with trainers / boots over the winter.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Not sure if it’s important, but I’m mid 40s, size 12-14 and about 5’ 8, with a bit of a tummy!

Thank you

Barrel and straight leg. Both flattering styles. I like straight leg as they are wider in the leg but not too baggy.

I do have a couple of wide leg ones but I don’t wear them much. I like to see my trainers!

I read skinny jeans are coming back into fashion. I find baggy or flared jeans are very unflattering on most people particularly on the butt

Skinny jeans are unflattering to 90% of wearers.

I've been wearing mostly wide leg jeans, with trainers. Over the summer I also wore barrel leg and slim fit but I only like them with sandals so they are going away for the winter.
I've got some more straight leg jeans recently but there are too wear with boots over the winter as they are too long to wear with trainers.

I’ve just brought back a couple of pairs of American Eagle stovepipe style jeans in black and indigo from the US - I love them. They are so flattering and fit just how I want them to. I was wearing mum jeans or just straight but they always tapered in too much at the ankle and didn’t flatter my tummy, whereas the stovepipe seem to stay the same width all the way down without flaring and these ones look a lot better on my size 14 body. Love them. Also bought my first pair of skinnies in a few years - I just love wearing them with chunky jumpers and boots over the winter so decided I don’t care whether they aren’t ‘in’ these days, I’ll wear what makes me happy.

Probably straight or flared, although I've been wearing skirts and dresses all summer so I might try the same in winter.

I saw this on youtube which I thought was really good.

Although I've just remembered I was hankering after some vintage levi 501s.

ivegotthisyeah · 05/09/2025 20:43

I am like you 40’s bit if a tum, avid skinny jean wearer then went to mum style then I found some beautiful wide leg ones in next I love them! Even my teenager daughter commented on them saying they were nice! They are so comfortable soft denim got short leg though as normal were too long. I am 5:6 size 14

BrendaSmall · 05/09/2025 20:46

I’ve not worn jeans for years!
it’s something I’ve been looking at though as lost lots of weight!
At the moment I’m still wearing shorts everyday even to work

Levis rib cage wide leg.

Just got these! Really nice, and I have your size / body tipe (on a good day XD)

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 05/09/2025 21:26

I wear flared, girlfriend or skinny. It's much more practical to wear skinny and girlfriend when walking round fields and country parks or when it rains

My flares drag on the ground and I remember last time when they would get soaked if it rained.

Apocketfilledwithposies · 05/09/2025 21:34

@ivegotthisyeah which jeans are yours from Next please?

I'm 5ft6 as well and most of the jeans in the shops seem way too long for me at the moment!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 05/09/2025 21:45

I’ve just got some high waisted slightly flaired ones that I like.

WeaselPax · 05/09/2025 22:15

White Stuff mid rise straight. I am really struggling, I am fit but have a 95cm ‘waist’ after pregnancy (baby is 18mo now) and 105cm hips and no jeans seem to work for me. Envious of all those women with an actual waist! 😅

Plastictreees · 05/09/2025 22:19

I like a high rise straight leg, although I have a couple of pairs of ‘mum’ jeans. Never been a fan of skinny jeans, so delighted the wider leg looks are so popular now.

FurForksSake · 05/09/2025 22:20

I got some nice barrel leg black jeans from tu recently.

HeadingOutForJog · 05/09/2025 22:25

I just wouldn't wear something that didn't suit me in the name of fashion.

Yep. I had no jeans at all for DECADES because they were all skinny. Needless to say, I went overboard as soon as wide legs reappeared. All high-waisted in my case, for reasons stated by PPs. I've just given my Freyas to the charity shop, OP, as I'd stopped wearing them because not wide enough!

I loathe ankle-length trousers (have shunned that fashion, as well). Mine don't get soggy hems because I wear thick-soled shoes & boots. I'm a '70s & '90s revival, innit 😁

LemonLemon25 · 05/09/2025 22:28

Reluctantly still skinny.
Am 5ft tall (st a push) 12 to 14.

Anything else I look like as wide as I am tall.

Struggling with foot wear with the old skinnies these days. Trainers shorten my legs even more. Black heeled boots are so frumpy. DMs I feel make me look like a clown.

Am dreading this winter...feel totally lost with fashion and styling.

Nextdoormat · 05/09/2025 22:33

Levi rib cage wide leg. Got to love levi's.

GarlicPint · 05/09/2025 22:41

@LemonLemon25, wear calf/knee length boots over your skinnies. You might end up looking like you're on your way to the stables, but at least they 'go'.

Or baggy ankle-length cowboy boots, if you prefer to look more like a keen line dancer 😉

SwirlyShirly · 05/09/2025 22:41

I got some nice mid rise horse shoe jeans in next today. Best of wide leg without the risk of soggy ankles through the autumn. They are similar to barrel leg but not as barelly I think?! I tried the barrel leg ones today also and they were not quite right for me.

ivegotthisyeah · 06/09/2025 08:29

@Apocketfilledwithposiessorry not great but these are them pictures don’t do them justice.

What jeans are we wearing?
WinchGirl · 06/09/2025 08:42

Always skinny. They suit me and look good. When I do try other jeans I always seem to get a baggy crotch which I do not like.

sophiecygnet · 06/09/2025 11:21

Barrel have been fine in hot weather, John Lewis.
Do not want draught, up there! in autumn winter nor do I want wet denim flapping about.
Narrower and higher rise when I see something I fancy

luckylavender · 06/09/2025 11:22

The ones that suit us.
